Server martinellis being moved to new hardware
Martinellis just had a hardware failure, and we’re moving the server over to new hardware right now. It should take an hour to get everything up and running again. Sorry about this!
Update: Martinellis is back up and running. Please report any lingering issues to tech support. Thank you for your patience!

If you need a good reliable host, Media Temple is the best.

Media Temple.. blah.. a friend on that and he said it bites.
October 5th, 2007 at 12:59 pm

If you need a good reliable host, try Flo at the diner.

great !! New hardware! Hopefully it will run better!? But if it is resolved 22 hours ago why is my site still not working?

@nige: do as it says: “Please report any lingering issues to tech support.”

I have a hard time believing that the scumbags that spam MT here aren’t employees. They show up too much–and it’s not because they’re that well-liked or popular.
So, yeah… leave Dreamhost to go with someone that needs to leech off of DH by spamming their sites. Great plan.

I like when DH goes down on me - finally get some value for my money.
October 6th, 2007 at 4:28 pm
@me
I did…
October 6th, 2007 at 5:43 pm
That load average was just a little bit more than average.
I say “Sell” at 500.
October 6th, 2007 at 9:46 pm
I “love” DH.

I’m trying to contact support via the web panel but the problem is the web panel won’t load.
Well that’s a bit of a problem, isn’t it?
October 7th, 2007 at 8:58 pm
I can’t get to it either right now. It really is, as far as I’m concerned, the biggest customer support issue with DreamHost. Even if all I could do is report by email, I could go to sleep hoping that it will be handled by the time I get up. But when this happens, I worry. I keep trying to connect.
Not a lot of fun.
October 7th, 2007 at 9:15 pm
They do need a form of support other than their webpanel… especially when their webpanel is starting to become as buggy as our hosting.
October 7th, 2007 at 10:38 pm
You can email support@dreamhost.com using the email address that’s on your account to send them an issue directly without the use of the panel.

VOO - there were some issues with that and as I understand it DH staff has never confirmed that as an actual option. I assume they want to force us through their gauntlet of irrelevant questions in punishment for attempting to say “It’s Busted”
October 8th, 2007 at 7:02 am
Hope everything works out soon. I thought my site was down for good.. It just won’t load.
Keeping my fingers cross..
October 8th, 2007 at 9:00 am
“DH staff has never confirmed that as an actual option.”
They have indeed… by virtue of replying to my requests using that methodology.
October 8th, 2007 at 10:10 am
As a matter of fact, I just got this in an auto reply myself:
“It is okay to send email to this address for support inquiries. We prefer
you use email only for replies to messages from us about ongoing support
cases. If you want to open a new case, we ask that you use the form at
https://panel.dreamhost.com/?tab=support&subtab=msg so that we can better
automatically tie your message to your account with us!”
So, panel preferred, but direct email OK. Again though, you MUST use your account addy.

Thanks for confirming with all that. There were problems at one time, but if it’s supposed to work - w00t!
October 8th, 2007 at 12:42 pm
for more than 4 months I’ve been noting and communicating to support that my server is cold syrup slow between the hours of 10a -3p on weekdays. I can be in the middle of writing a post and almost to the minute, if the clock turns to 10 the response can be as long as 10 minutes - or more often the server times out or notes an error. At about 3pm Mon-Fri the speed suddenly increases. OK…this is bull crap. I don’t have that much traffic on my site during the first part of the week…and to have this recurring problem is a sign of poor service, overloaded servers and cramming way too much onto their equipment. I’m certainly looking for better service from other hosts.

The thing I really love is how the mass majority of websites and businesses give you phone numbers so incase their site is down or if you need immediate help you can “CALL” them. but these guys are too cheap to hire or setup an automatic answering machine… hell my small business has that….
either way i haven’t had much of a problem with DH besides the phone thing.
good luck people.
October 8th, 2007 at 1:28 pm
thank you
October 9th, 2007 at 6:00 am
@Eric - What would a phone service accomplish, other than increased cost? I much prefer, in the technical environment, a text-based service, because then I can do things like attach the exact error message that I’m seeing - rather than trying to explain it to someone in a call center somewhere who isn’t going to be able to solve the problem anyway. DH has >300,000 customers - how many does your “small business” have?
I’d much rather have them concentrate their efforts on fixing the problems than in trying to answer thousands of phone calls.

I use dreamhost and not by choice . I paid for a year so I need to use it up.I am not going to spam in here and say go to another but I will say this ,My regular host is awesome with great support . I won’t tell you who they are cause I am greedy like that and don’t want to share them. I have had nothing but grief with dreamhost and when my year is up I am moving .

Seems they are still having load issues with martinellis. Time to get the big hammer out and give it a good seeing to!
