Server moves!
Wednesday Morning at Midnight, October 10, 2007, we will be moving some servers in our datacenter in an effort to better make use of our rack space and available power. The estimated downtime is 5 minutes for these three servers:
vito, baseline, fin
We are also moving a handful of internal use servers as well, but that downtime will be transparent to you!
Update! 12:48AM Pacific: All finished! Everything should be back up and running again. Please contact support if you are having any problems.

and our mail is down yet again! down for over two days last week, and now god knows for how long because dreamhost doesn’t update their status blogs. seriously, has anyone ever seen a company run like this? their jokey website was moderately funny when i signed up, now i think it’s an accurate reflection of what actually goes on there.

“…dreamhost doesn’t update their status blogs. seriously, has anyone ever seen a company run like this?”
Nope.
Show me another web host that has status blogs in the first place, and tells the world about planned (and unplanned) downtime the way dreamhost does.

If you are worried about downtime for your email, use Google Apps. It’s free and you get a really sweet web interface.
