Oh nos… the Lunarpages witch has hexed our asses with voodoo!

Thanks. Hope the problem is fixed soon.

LOL @ VOO! I’m glad dreamhost has posted a quick acknowledgment of the problem.

It sucks but I’m relived to see that I’m not the only one having this issue

I’ve just discovered that even though 15 of my forward only email addys have disappeared from the panel, they still work… they are probably routing through the astral plane… AWESOME!

Well, my email accounts are back and working again. Thanks guys.

Not cool at all.
i’m expecting important emails and this is unacceptable.
this is a business account and without it, we can’t run business.
i’ve had this account for less than a month and this is the second major problem

dreamhost better get there act together.
are there any guarantees that we’ll get any of our emails back?
don’t think so… they’ve already lost a half a dozen of mine… never to be retrieved again!

That was fast. All my accounts have shown back up and are working. Dreamhost is by far the best web hosting company I’ve worked with.

@vanessa: I had emails sent to me during this down time, and they have all appeared in my inbox on restored email accounts. Hopefully yours will be too.

Vanessa any email not received by you would also send an Undeliverable: tag back to the person who sent the email. If you do have a business and it is important they will send it again.

The list of my alias adress is back but I still can’t send an e-mail to one of those

I get a ” Recipient address rejected: User unknown in
virtual alias table (in reply to RCPT TO command)” error

actually, i sent myself a couple of emails from another account to test this and:

1. did not receive the emails
2. did not receive a bounce back.
i also asked some friends to do the same… with similar results.
so where are those emails?????

They are probably still inside The Holy Ghost and will show up in your inbox when the issue is completely fixed, vanessa!

All of my addys are back to full functionality too, BTW.

i’m testing it again… and guess what!
all the emails i just sent to the account are being rejected.
hhmmm? wonder why?
problem not solved?

it’s working thank you

Email accounts show but don’t work. I’m with Vanessa this is really not acceptable. Servers going down I understand but apparently random email accounts disappearing? Not something my users will be patient about.

vanessa: please contact support and ask them to run a mail config on your domain.

Problem still exists for me too — all my mail is gone :( and it’s not come back since it disappeared.

The accounts seem to be working now.
on a broader point… usually when I register a support request I receive email confirmation that you received the request.
No confirmation was received even though I asked for a phone call. I appreciate that you are trying to solve the problem but not getting even an automated reply left me more anxious.

My mailbox and old mail is back, but new mail sent to the mailbox is still bouncing back to sender. I didn’t get any email or call back - I would sure appreciate some.

Please don’t tell us its fixed when it is not.

All of the email aliases for all my domains appear to be missing.
Completely missing.

Please reopen the ticket and post that its still down.

why are they posting that it’s fixed?
it clearly isn’t!

are we the opnly few having this problem.
i am compltelety outraged that they have not be forthcoming with information.

i wouldn’t even know how to begin to explain this to clients without making a complete fool of myself!
this sucks!

I gotten my emails back.

I can once again log in but all of my mail is still gone as well and after testing, I am as of yet able to recieve mail although I do get an undeliverable message.

less than 10 bucks a month - well worth the fees despite the hiccups. If this really is a business critical application any of you are running then stop being such cheapos and get a dedicated hosting account.

i got this problem too :
” Recipient address rejected: User unknown in virtual alias table”

how to fix that ?
i can sent email from the account but i cannot received email

Gah. This is unbelievable. Sure, IMAP-server downtime is one thing, but actually making the email undeliverable is just too much. I was lucky to get a call from a client asking me what was wrong, otherwise I might not have noticed this. Hopefully I didn’t lose to many emails (!).

ANYWAY, I THINK THIS CAN SOLVE SOME PROBLEMS:
(since DH seems unable to)

I wen into my Web Panel, the mail section, and account by account i pressed edit and then save (without any changes). This seemed to “re-activate” them (even though they shouldn’t have been de-activated from the start).

I’ll switch hosting the next week.

I transfer a customer domain to DH just yesterday, and this morning, first DH day my customer cannot work with email.
You can imagine I am not very happy about it….
Please fix it ASAP, I wrote 2 support request, but so far no answer…

best regards
Massimo

heh.. looks like the routine friday email meltdown came a day early this week.. ;)

funny the classify this issue as resolved.. when we are still having exactly this same problem and apparently many others aswell.

we have this server for not even 2 weeks and this is the second time there is a major emali problem.. guess we need to go back to dedicated hosting unfortunatly.

regards

@vanessa: Stop being ridiculous.

1. You’re complaining about downtime. DH manages hundreds of servers, and downtime per server is minimal. Find me another web host as reliable as DH and I’ll refund you everything you’ve paid to DH to date twice over, and get you a new hosting account at your suggested host (MediaTemple doesn’t count).

2. You’re testing the downtime and complaining that the issue isn’t fixed. Firstly, very few other hosts would admit that there was clearly a problem after barely a few support tickets, or provide so much information. At least you know what’s going on. You can email your clients and ask them to resend their emails. With other hosts, you don’t even know the downtime occurred. (Again, MT is the exception).

3. You’re using a DH account for what you imply is critical business. Please tell me you’re aware of the mass of DH customers paying something like $0.10 per day. Go find a business-oriented host (Servage, MT - not GoDaddy, Lunarpages or HostGator) and stop complaining that the most open and friendly host on the planet lets down your business for a few hours, maybe a couple of days. People love DH for hosting. Businesses may not, but for crying out loud make an educated decision and stick with it.

In summary: stop being pessimistic, look up and realize that the service is nowhere near as bad as you might think. (unless you’ve got a dedicated server with DH, in which case I advise you to relearn the fundamentals of web hosting).

By the way, for the last time, COMMENTS HERE ARE NOT AN OFFICIAL MEANS OF REACHING DREAMHOST SUPPORT.

My complaint is not so much that there was trouble with mail. My complaint was that DH declared it fixed when it was not. I am ordinarily confident that DH will get things back together soon enough.

Why did they do that?

To make their uptime numbers look better than they are?
Somebody missed half the shop after one server came back up?
Inattention to detail?

What the false report of “repaired” does is make me question DH’s honesty and/or competence. Then, Lunarpages (or whoever), doesn’t look so bad.

@ Joe Skelley Dh dose not have phone support.

@ everyone bitching.
For those of you running critical business servers on dh please don’t im fed up of reading your posts bitching about DH going down all the time. Please get a dedicated hosting plan else ware. You get what you paid for.

- reading comments because its like watching a car crash.

“If you are still missing any email addresses on your Manage Addresses control panel page, please contact support for further assistance and we will get you taken care of as quickly as possible!”

mail timeouts… can’t get into webmail… this is becoming all too common. Maybe DH’s website uptime is good, but their e-mail downtime is sucking pretty bad, at least from my personal experiences. Yup, their support folks reply fast, but that doesn’t count for too much if my e-mail still isn’t working.

Google aps for email is rather simple and there is even a a guide with sesettings for dreamhost users –but again you change your mx to point to several google, mail gmail whatever servers but if dreamhost has a issue with dns mx than I still unsure if email il then disisappears s..google wont lose it -they’ll serve me ads whoot but if the email never makes it because of dreamhost being the autohority of //then wjawhat ?you’ll never know if your getting all of your messages -

I’m getting the same fucking email delivered to me over and over for 3 days now - with the same time stamp on it. The originator is not resending it over and over (checked). I added it to ban list but still it keeps coming anyway every half to 1 hour or so for 3 days. STOP IT.

@ Mumbles - fuck off - email is important - if your family member is on their death bed and you missed out hearing until it was too late because of email service sucks you’d be pissed - this is not just about business users you fool, so stfu.

cant DH do any-fucking-thing right???

So who the hell would email someone tot ell them a relative was dieing?
Dont you have a phone?

Cool, the post.

Thanks for the information.
