File Server getting a new head
One of our file servers has faulty hardware, so our admins will be swapping out the head unit. They will, of course, do this as quickly as possible, but this will create downtime for customers on the following servers:
adonis aphrodite apollo aries baachus barefoottours charon charybdis chronos daedalus dione dionysus erebus erida eros ganesha gorgon hades helios hephaestus hera heracles hermes hestia hypnos icarus iris jove kratos medusa mf1 mf2 minerva morpheus nemesis odysseus pan pegasus persephone poseidon rhea sisyphus tartarus tethys thanatos thetis triton zeus
This will also affect email for people on these servers.
We will post more information as it becomes available. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Update: The file server’s hardware was replaced superfast, and we’re finishing up cleaning up any remaining issues. However, if you are still having a problem, please email tech support.

WHAT THE FUCK! ALL DAY YESTERDAY, AND NOW TODAY TOO???
October 19th, 2007 at 1:54 pm
Dreamhost: Go ahead and dream that your sites are working, leave the downtime to us.
I could have better reliability hosting my sites on my 20Mbps/2Mbps RCN Cable connection on my 2×240 Opteron server at my place. Not looking good lately DH, 2007 has been horrible as far as your reliability as a hosting company goes.

This used to happen with my old host. That’s why I left them and came to DreamHost. This happened all day yesterday and now it’s happening today.
I was told DreamHost is top of the line. What’s going on?

Argh…my sites are down again…I really think there is a monkey at the helm…and not one of those genetically enhanced super monkeys..

KPS, sorry to break it to you, but you were apparently lied to. Before I signed up with dreamhost 2+ years ago, I knew they had some reliability issues, but I figured for $22.40 for a years worth of hosting, plus all the neat benefits, I couldn’t go wrong, but lately I’ve been second guessing myself.

Hey guys!
Does this affect any private servers too? I guess you only post the public server names here generally.
October 19th, 2007 at 2:09 pm
Why is this only a medium severity?? a lot of sites are down.
October 19th, 2007 at 2:28 pm
Now my email is down (Janky)
October 19th, 2007 at 3:01 pm
Well, my site is working fine… ug, why did I sign up for DH without looking at reviews??
October 19th, 2007 at 3:28 pm
My email (Janky) is down now too. However, I *can* log into webmail.
October 19th, 2007 at 3:49 pm
Same here on Janky, webmail is fine, but any desktop mail programs all get their passwords rejected. Apple Mail, Outlook, Outlook express. Is happening on multiple computers for multiple clients.
October 19th, 2007 at 7:36 pm
Guys, shut your mouths - shit happends.
October 19th, 2007 at 8:28 pm
Hmm…my site is fine!
October 19th, 2007 at 10:57 pm
Hey Boom Monkey, is that what you mom said when you were born. “Guys, shut your mouth, shit happened”
This is the worst service I have ever experienced in my life. I guess the basic rule of thumb should be whatever ISP doesnt have a customer support line and is too afraid to talk to thier customers is probably not a good site to go with. I signed up about 8 weeks ago and I have had nothing but trouble. I could easily run my own server and host everyone here with less problems then these idiots on DH. If I do end up hosting my own server, then I will invite all of you to leave this worthless excuse for a ISP and join me. As for now, I have switched over to Startlogic.com.
Jump now and dont wait for this company to fully sink.

Dream Host, I recommend that you limit your customer base until you can get a hold on all of your issues. This is frustrating to everyone that had a site go down today and you should be absolutely ashamed of your busienss. Obvoiusly someone dropped the ball over there today and should be fired.

kps: Well, if you have been reading the blog, you’d know. Buggy router, which is why they’re taking it down and upgrading it.
Brian: You’re not a business expert. If you were, you wouldn’t host anything mission critical on shared hosting.
Lastly, maybe all the machines need to get more head and they’ll work better.

Actually, Brian is nothing but a spamming piece of trash that isn’t even hosted here.
The retard, after his first comment spam, had to repost it because he realized “Brian” wasn’t a good choice of anchor text for his spam link when compared to the laughable “Business Expert” description.
