sanjay / lovejoy filer issues
One of the file servers for the sanjay and lovejoy machines experienced a filesystem failure this evening.
We are currently running a repair on it, which is taking some time, and will take some time more before it finishes.
We will post an update here later when it has completed and things are back online.
We are very sorry about the very late posting on this, there was a miscommunication earlier and it never got posted.

Am I the only one that can’t access the panel or webmail at the moment?
October 19th, 2007 at 4:38 am
It’s working for me, Dave.
October 19th, 2007 at 4:41 am
Dave, no same here. It might be 0430 AM in Dreamhost-land, but its the main part of the business day here

Lovejoy was first seen offline here at: 1:30:08 AM CDT.
Lame!
It no wonder people use you for an occasionally accessible backup storage, and don’t host websites with you.

Hey Mike can you recommend someone better? I’m getting sick of the downtime.

I don’t see an official update here, but my overnight mail is starting to trickle in.

Snicker isn’t serving web pages, either. One problem is, “df -k” shows that /vol/boot/spunky/augustina is 101% full.
October 19th, 2007 at 9:22 am
@bob, that’s a limitation of the 2.4 kernel. the file server it’s trying to show a df for is over 4TB, so the number overflows and that’s what you get.

Snicker seems to be working again.

Lovejoy / Sanjay has been down since at least 6 pm (PDT), Oct 18.
Pathetic hardware & maintenance!
I am sympathetic to occassional crashes, but this is the third recent failure. Being down for 15+ hours is unacceptable.

I’m glad I don’t use my website to actually earn a living. It’s been down a LONG TIME! And it’s still down. The last Dreamhost info on this topic was almost eight hours ago. What’s going on? How long? Inquiring minds need to know.

Ahhhhhh!!!! I’ve been trying to pull a client file off our FTP since 1pm yesterday!!!!!!!!!!!!

“I’m glad I don’t use my website to actually earn a living. ”
I actually do, and having my email and site down for 15 hours is UNACCEPTABLE.
I’ve probably had at least 50-100 friends & clients try to reach me since yesterday afternoon, all of which are getting undeliverable emails bounced back to them.
I’m fuming. Absolutely beyond comprehension that this is happening. Not to mention that I have been getting bad httpd config & site/email outtages almost every single week lately.
Now that I have a store up on my site, and constant press hitting all the time, I can’t take any more chances dealing with a host that is so completely unreliable.
I want to love Dreamhost, I really do. I have for a long time, and have shouted their name from the rooftops, turning all my friends on to their hosting. But I’m completely at the end of my rope. I’m tired of being so frustrated. Having friends contact me once a week, saying “is your site down AGAIN!?” Sadly, yes.
I’m switching to Media Temple (as soon as I can get someone to help me move my 15GB of IMAP and my 13 hosted sites).
Painful!!!

@bakedgoods: try using SFTP to connect and pull the files

It’s ironic that over the past days there has been a big thread discussing the TOS and Dreamhost’s “clarification” that the storage capacity we are paying for NOT be used for backing up personal files, but only for serving files from a web site. I don’t get it - this used to be a great service, but I’m not feeling the love.

This is incredible guys, post some sort of update and let us know what the hell is going on. We PAY money for this, and our sites are offline and our clients are complaining.
I understand that things go wrong sometimes, but this site was created to let us, YOUR CUSTOMERS, know what is going on and what to expect. And for an entire storage array to be offline for THIS LONG with NO UPDATES, it makes me wonder if my data is actually lost.
I’ve been with Dreamhost since 2003, and this time I am seriously considering moving elsewhere.
DISAPPOINTING.

@willo
You need to change hosts. DH is cheap yet unreliable hosting. You are seriously making a mistake in thinking that $10/mo hosting is reliable or verbose enough for a business (and if you’re paying more than $10/mo at DH … that’d be mistake #2. I moved my actual business off DH over 2 years ago and downgraded my account here. Sooner or later I’ll move the remaining personal stuff off here, but for right now it’s good enough for that).
If you make your livelihood from this, you need to pony up and get a dedicated server at a reliable provider. Anything in this price range is going to be on par with the problems and reliability issues you see here.

remember to use the support request forms in the control panel to continue to report problems

Arghhh my sites are down again…. I thought moving to Dreamhost from Hostmonster would solve my hosting woes….what’s with all of these host providers… is there any one out there who can provide me affordable and reliable service??
