pierce getting new hardware
The server ‘pierce’ appears to have a malfunctioning network card, so we’re going to move it over to new hardware.
This process takes about 30-45 minutes, and we will post an update here when it is completed.
Update: 11:37pm pacific: The hardware change has been completed and services are coming up. Everything should be fully completed in a few more minutes!
Update: 11:43pm pacific: The failover process is complete! Everything should be running now on the new hardware. If you are still having issues, please contact support!
Sorry for any inconvenience!
.

I hopr this addresses all the issues with this server.
October 21st, 2007 at 11:24 pm
@Jeff: I believe it will. The new pierce should be up shortly, thanks for your patience!
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:05 am
LOL! Just when I checked what the status is, my sites went down… FANTASTIC!
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:05 am
I’m on helios and everything stopped on it. What’s the word there?
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:06 am
all sites at babyruth server down
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:07 am
Somehow I get the feeling this isn’t just affecting ONE server like they say.
Come on guys, get your you know what together.
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:07 am
Twizzler is down!
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:08 am
I’m trying to go through their panel and that’s not working for sh!t. Yay for that.
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:08 am
cappuccino is down
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:09 am
Who hosts the DH Status page? I want to switch to them. It seems like it’s the only thing that stays running.
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:10 am
what a nightmare week… down again. how the hell am I supposed to launch a site with this happening.
I am really close to cutting the cord.
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:10 am
Traceroute dies at ge5-2-0-1000M.ar3.PAO2.gblx.net. Looks like a network problem.
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:10 am
I think that bandit is down, because seltzer working, but not is I access database.
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:10 am
panel works ok, all sites at my server are down… bad luck, my blog was just getting votes at that digglike spanish site ¬¬
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:10 am
I believe as of posting this EVERY server is currently down and that’s unacceptable.
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:11 am
zuma is down. so much for installing a new CMS.
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:11 am
Apparently a lot is down because mine is down too…seems like every time I want to do something this weekend it dies.
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:11 am
Rootbeer down, no FTP, no MySQL
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:12 am
How do you loyal DH customers deal with this crap?
I signed up at the beginning of the month for $9.30 FOR A WHOLE YEAR and I feel like I’m getting ripped off. It’s not just the downtime but the SLOWNESS, geeze.
I badly want to get new hosting.
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:14 am
Whenever my site is down, I always find that dreamhoststatus.com has updates about certain servers but never about mine. I’m on deblume and it’s most definitely down at the moment. I don’t get why it’s rarely mentioned?!!
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:14 am
bixel, millhouse and hypnos are down.
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:14 am
my website is down.. ip: 208.113.213.150
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:15 am
My site isn’t down that much…but this weekend has been horrible. I’ve been so busy and the only time I have to do anything it’s been down T_T I hope it’s fixed soon. My community is getting annoyed that I haven’t brought our forums back up…because I haven’t been able to fix everything.
I always wonder about the DH site too…it not hosted on DH? Hah.
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:15 am
Argh…my sites are down yet again!!
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:15 am
odwalla is down =(
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:15 am
Sigh. Everything is down. My contract runs out on November 5th and I’m definitely switching hosts.
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:16 am
my sites are down. on tejava….
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:16 am
Yeah. Pretty much every server I’m on is down except Janky.
Speaking of Janky, so is this service. WHAT THE HELL?
We’ve been with DH for years and it’s taking a shit on all my customers now. Today has been our busiest day. Now is not the time to go down.
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:16 am
10 years… and DH have not learned to do Hosting as it shoud be. im looking at where to change righ now.
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:17 am
Yeah I’ve been a member since 2003, and just renewed again for a year, right before the latest problems. Lately its been pretty bad…
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:17 am
A Trace route to my site, LOL WTF.
Tracing route to mysite.com [66.33.198.206]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
1 1 ms
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:18 am
Panel showed me like 30 warnings before I could submit the ticket.
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:19 am
The last couple weeks dreamhost’s servers have been down a lot, its a pain in the butt. And when one server its down the whole network goes down?
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:19 am
I’d love to ‘properly’ contact Dreamhost, but I can’t. If the Wordpress entry I just spent 40m writing is gone, I’m likely to kill.
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:20 am
Very nice. My google analytics is stranded in cyberspace; alone and cold. So does anyone other than DH offer at least 4TB of bandwidth a month?
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:21 am
mine’s back up. for now
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:22 am
Stephanie, WP saves as you go… You wont lose it all. Just the last 2-3 minutes.
qbanguy - Because most of the servers are grouped into 1 physical machine. There’s a lot of virtualizing done to save space and money.
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:22 am
If the Wordpress entry I just spent 40m writing is gone, I’m likely to kill.
Get some perspective. It’s only a Wordpress entry. There are 4 billion others that people could read.
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:22 am
Yeah it’s a network thing. I have a shell session to kratos and it’ll lock up for a while then come good again - without dropping the tcp connection. But when my web machine is working it seems like my DB machine isn’t! Signed up a couple of days ago for 3 years. Hopefully I won’t be regretting that..
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:23 am
Yeah, but for how long will it be up is the question. Should we start a pool?
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:24 am
man this is getting SO REGULAR
can i have my SITES BACK AGAIN PLEASE??
really this is NOT ACCEPTABLE AT THIS FREQUENCY
yes i am yelling this is total BS
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:24 am
babyruth back up, .. for how long?
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:25 am
My sites on Fanta are still down at this moment of time
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:29 am
Has Dreamhost always been like this??? I’m a new customer…disappointing..
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:29 am
someone should start a site where you can see how you can move out from DH, to keep the flash player, one clic installs, etc etc, all to make the movement smooth
October 22nd, 2007 at 1:47 am
Then file a bloody support ticket. Since this post obviously has nothing to do with your web server. Learn to read before you wine, please.
October 22nd, 2007 at 2:30 am
I love it .. someone can’t load their site and , “It’s down! OMG!” It never seems to dawn on anyone that their ISP might be screwed up, their ISP’s DNS might be borken, they might be routed into a dead wonky router along the way, or that any other connectivity issue could be why they can’t raise their site. 30 hops to your site? Meh - that doesn’t convince me your site is down at all.
Most every site linked from the above posters has been “up” for me -
October 22nd, 2007 at 5:44 am
To rlparker:
At the moment they posted those messages the whole dreamhost service was unavailable for a moment so even the dreamhost panel page gave errors which wasn’t really nice. So ‘I love it too’ but please try to check the time of posts before you flame more.
October 22nd, 2007 at 7:08 am
@ilari - No, that’s incorrect. Checking my server logs, I was getting traffic at the same time that those posts were being made. And how would you know that “the whole dreamhost service was down”? There are greater than 300,000 domains hosted here - did you check them all?
October 22nd, 2007 at 7:20 am
TO brasscrest:
So the mail that I got from DreamHost support where they say that they had network problems last night (US time I guess) isn’t right according to you then :)? Well maybe I’m wrong…
October 22nd, 2007 at 8:48 am
@Ilari - just stating facts. It’s a big network - spread over three datacenters - a couple of thousand servers - multiple uplinks to the backbone - it’s entirely possible that there were network problems that didn’t affect the part of the network that I’m on. Or thousands of other customers, for that matter.
If there had been a general outage, they would have posted an announcement.
October 22nd, 2007 at 10:57 am
i monitor all of my site and none have been down at any time during this discussion.
October 22nd, 2007 at 11:49 am
Just wanted to say that you guys generally do a very good job. The people who flood negativity here are just blowing off steam - 99% uptime for $7 a month is pretty good. Don’t let the trolls get you down.
October 22nd, 2007 at 12:57 pm
nice work guys
October 22nd, 2007 at 1:00 pm
For those of you moaning about Dreamhost, You shouldn’t because all host companies have these problems, only difference is they don’t share it with us. DH Rocks!!
October 22nd, 2007 at 2:18 pm
my website has been down for 5 days now… what the hells is going on… i am moving my site elsewhere today this is unbelievable 5 days of missed sales for me… my gosh ! i am not pissed off just confused as to why its taking them 5 days to fix a problem???
October 22nd, 2007 at 3:46 pm
@zak:Not true. I’m with two other hosting companies which have had _zero_ downtime in the last months. My sites on DH are down at least once a week for half an hour. see: http://tofu.he-hosting.de/uptime.html
DH has a stability problem, but I still love all the space and freedom which definitely comes with a price.
October 22nd, 2007 at 4:09 pm
Hi
I see, well I really do hope Dreamhost can resolve all these problems and take example from other hosts. Maybe they should replace all their hardware & software - which would take some time - but atleast in the long run it will be better off
Thanks.
October 22nd, 2007 at 4:33 pm
Okay my site is up again…all is well…I’m a happy customer again..
October 22nd, 2007 at 5:06 pm
Has the southern California wildfires hit the dreamhost data centre yet?
I’m all backed up and ready for it to happen. Will they be doing money-back to everyone in the event?
Fingers crossed.
October 22nd, 2007 at 6:51 pm
@Zak - Other hosts just don’t tell you about their downtimes and aren’t dumb enough to have an open public area for users to bitch and moan. THAT’s what other hosts should learn from Dreamhost.
@Zildshan - If I remember correctly, Brea is pretty far away from the current troubles. I’d be more concerned that they’d be involved in Bill and Ted’s excellent adventures as they aren’t that far from “San Dimas!” Be Excellent to Each Other.
October 22nd, 2007 at 9:03 pm
Is anyone experiencing problems now besides me?
My site has been down for 3 hours. Also ftp and shell can’t connect say, plus there are no home directories for any of my users (as stated control panel account tests).
I’ve submitted 2 tickets already with no response.
October 22nd, 2007 at 9:19 pm
“I’ve submitted 2 tickets already with no response.”
And now, someone behind you in the queue will have to wait for them to get through BOTH of your tickets. You see a lot of people bitching about not having answers to their tickets, and almost all of them have put in MULTIPLES, which fucks the system up for EVERYBODY.
What EXACTLY are your minds telling you will be the benefit of submitting ANOTHER ticket for a given issue? Do you think that the two tickets will join forces like Voltron lions and form a super ticket that will get attention quicker than the original one?
October 22nd, 2007 at 9:26 pm
“What EXACTLY are your minds telling you will be the benefit of submitting ANOTHER ticket for a given issue? ”
Well…. BECAUSE I HAVE *TWO* GOD DAMN ISSUES!!!!!!!!!!!
And, if people were able to select mutiple categories for their problems, maybe they don’t have to submit multiple tickets?
But anyways, thank you VOO for your response… it’s at least more than what I got from DH support. Cheers!!
October 22nd, 2007 at 10:01 pm
“Well…. BECAUSE I HAVE *TWO* GOD DAMN ISSUES!!!!!!”
I would think if you got the MAIN issue fixed, the other would fall under it prolly, no?
Perhaps The Lord is smiting your ass for vain naming and shit and there is nothing DH can do until He lifts his Lordly sanctions?
Voice Of One
October 22nd, 2007 at 10:03 pm
Also, do not be overly tunnel visioned by the category pickers… you can pick a category, but still tell about ALL of your issues in the one ticket.
October 23rd, 2007 at 12:09 am
For those of you who keep asking who hosts this page, I did a reverse IP lookup and found that servepath ran this page. They only have dedicated and managed plans, and the cheapest linux plan is 2k a year. but they do have some pretty damn good uptime guarantees.
October 23rd, 2007 at 5:51 am
It’s probably because they’ve got a bunch of their staff snooping through our files to make sure we’re not backing up our personal computers via rsync. There’s not enough people around to fix the real problems.
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:25 am
Murcielago is Down right now. Same as yesterday around this time.
Please fix it,
Thanks.
October 23rd, 2007 at 10:47 am
Icelander is a brain-dead idiot.
October 23rd, 2007 at 1:26 pm
My site has been very slow again today and i’m not on pierce..
I submitted a ticket earlier today and have no response.. which
is unusual for me. They normally respond pretty fast.
Where are the servers actually located?
I wonder if this massive wildfire could be effecting anything?
October 23rd, 2007 at 3:03 pm
My site was crazy slow today as well. Now I know why (I think!).
October 23rd, 2007 at 4:49 pm

October 23rd, 2007 at 6:30 pm
@Hal - because you’ve not given anyone here enough info to actually investigate the problem, I did what I could and can confirm that Helios is successfully responding to ping requests and offering login prompts. (I do not have a login or the name of a site hosted on helios so I can’t do any more for you.)
Of course, if you’re willing to post your username and password here I’m sure thousands of Russian school kids would love to ensure your hosting is working properly.
DO NOT POST YOUR USERNAME AND OR PASSWORD HERE
October 23rd, 2007 at 6:31 pm
Who needs mail anyway, huh? All it would be is people complaining about our (*&#$ing host. Go ahead and bring it back up any damn time you please.
End of the month can’t come fast enough.
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:47 pm
Can’t connect to dreamhost.com or my website :3
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:47 pm
I can’t even log into the Control Panel to report the current outtage of my mail, web server (and web panel)! You need to get your act together.
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:48 pm
I’m thinking them core upgrades didn’t do anything but make things worse on my end =/ I’ll still use dreamhost…not like I’m running a business, but seriously this is kinda aggravating.
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:48 pm
uhhh….my next big project is on another host…….
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:48 pm
sorry *core maintenance.
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:49 pm
What and who do we contact if ALL our sites are down? And yes, I can NOT get into the panel either to contact them.
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:49 pm
DH down for everyone?
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:49 pm
dreamhost goes down more than a stripper on crack
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:50 pm
My site, TrackForward.com, appears to be down. I also can’t access the DreamHost control panel at all right now.
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:50 pm
Down?
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:50 pm
WTF’s the problem NOW???
Unreal.
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:50 pm
So uh, what?
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:50 pm
Site down -CANNOT access panel to report.
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:50 pm
All this going down and I’m not even getting off. ;(
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:50 pm
wrangler is down.
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:51 pm
Sites are down! Panel is Down!!! Dilithium is out. SSH is down!
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:52 pm
update: still down
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:52 pm
lawl @ Matt.
My site is kinda up now…just slow. Maybe…not fast enough to efficiently do any work.
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:52 pm
LOL! It’s sad that DHstatus is like a chat room. We’re always here talking about the same thing.
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:52 pm
dreamhost should be on the server this blog is on……..seems pretty stable over here
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:53 pm
Down.
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:53 pm
Down here. Everything. No panel to report. Do you ever respond to peoples complaints?
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:53 pm
Up, but very slow.
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:54 pm
I just hope it’s not relative to the fires — which, I have a feeling it is, kids…
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:55 pm
Down too. This sucks.
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:55 pm
All my sites are down
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:55 pm
This is Dreamhost’s major problem, when they go down to the point that people can’t even login to the panel no one can actually contact them to tell them that everything is down. We just have to hope they notice from their end, but it always seems to take them a lot longer than it does their end users. They have got to come up with a way for customers to report that even the panel’s down.
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:55 pm
I wonder why it’s going down every day now…you know…since the maintenance ;p It only went down at most once per week before for me :p And it was usually times I wasn’t trying to do anything anyway. Now it’s like “you work on me and i’m going on strike bish!”
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:56 pm
Pardon my ignorance, but the datacenter has no redundancy and it’s only backbone goes through the hilliest areas where the fires are?
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:56 pm
lol they deleted my post, but then again MURCIELAGO is down for the 3th time in less tha 48 Hours.
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:56 pm
Wow, this is bullshit, some of my sites aren’t working, and I can’t even access my panel right now. Everything is slow as molasses. What’s weird is linux-tutor.org comes right up, but goldenheavenkennels.com is slow as shit.
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:56 pm
>> Who hosts the DH Status page? I want to switch to them. It seems like it’s the only thing that stays running.
I vote for comment of the year!!
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:56 pm
yeah im down, and a buddy of mine in Hawaii is down too…
*starts to sing…”its the end of the world as we know it…”*
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:57 pm
Like I said… If it’s the fires burning up comm infrastrusture out west (where the servers are!), then we’ll be having some issues.
All your DNS routes mean nothing if they can’t connect.
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:58 pm
All my sites on Crenshaw are down as well…okay…maybe not…just checked again. They’re up but also SUPER slow…
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:58 pm
Back up your stuff while you can!!! FIRE RUINS ALL! >.>
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:59 pm
My site just came back up. Was down for about 20 mins
October 23rd, 2007 at 9:01 pm
Thanks! Dreamhost for working diligently to get our issues resolved.
October 23rd, 2007 at 9:01 pm
Liz, if the servers themselves are safe, I wouldn’t worry too much about it. The point I’m making, is that if you even try to make a phone-call out west — let alone try to connect to anything in that area via the Web, you’re bound to run into routing issues.
I’m sure all the network administrators in the western part of the country are working day and night right now to re-route as much as they can!
October 23rd, 2007 at 9:01 pm
Any pro’s out there know why tracert and ping to dreamhost.com work fine, but the site won’t load? I’m not too great with this stuff.
October 23rd, 2007 at 9:02 pm
Safari could not open the page “https://panel.dreamhost.com/” because the server stopped responding.
http://discussion.dreamhost.com/
is…loading incredibly slowly, I’ve only got the header to load.
http://www.dreamhost.com is the same, really really slow
webmail for my domains loads…after awhile
IMAP email for all my domains works sporadically.
all my sites are down and the Panel is down.
but dreamhoststatus.com loads and so I post here.
thank you and good night.
October 23rd, 2007 at 9:02 pm
I’m back up on Dilithium, sites were down for 15 minutes.
October 23rd, 2007 at 9:03 pm
Daniel it was a joke ^^ But I understand :p But yeah my pages are back up anyway :p
October 23rd, 2007 at 9:03 pm
My site is down and the web panel is inaccesible. What’s going on?
October 23rd, 2007 at 9:04 pm
DREAMHOSTSTATUS.COM is hosted at http://www.servepath.com/
Problem is the price. Only dedicated servers available. ;*(
If I had $4K to lay down, that would be my first choice.
10,000% Guarantee on 100% uptime!
NICE!
October 23rd, 2007 at 9:05 pm
Yeah, my blog’s been down for about 20 minutes now.
How come this site is NEVER down?
October 23rd, 2007 at 9:06 pm
JPL because it’s not hosted by DreamHost. It’s hosted by ServePath.com
October 23rd, 2007 at 9:08 pm
What’s going on again??? Is defender down? Why even the panel is not accessible???
October 23rd, 2007 at 9:09 pm
Glad to see I’m not alone! You guys remember when Dreamhost was fast? I have been with them for 5-6 years and while the people are GREAT, the technology seems to have gone downhill quickly. I like Dreamhost as a company and really hope they can turn this around. If you sell things online like I do, you simply can’t afford to be down for hours without explanation.
October 23rd, 2007 at 9:10 pm
Yup, we’re offline. Lovely…
October 23rd, 2007 at 9:10 pm
Should just keep the status permanently set at: “No. Our Issues Are Never Fully Resolved. “We” Just Live By The Minute.”
Heck, even if they permanently kept it at: “No”. At least they’re being honest… Me thinks, permanently set it to: “No”. And then move the servers closer to the fires…
Then at least if they got caught up in flames, we’d understand that the issues are like they are… and that the status fits… Nah, but seriously…this is getting tiresome.. Can everyone say: CAN WE GET A REFUND PLEASE!? It’s time to move hosts…
October 23rd, 2007 at 9:12 pm
A refund on downtime would be awesome ;p But I’m sure stuff like this is in the terms when signing up lol.
October 23rd, 2007 at 9:13 pm
Bottlecap is down too. Not long ago I asked support about what to do about getting our domains in the event of an earthquake… hadn’t thought of fire… I definitely hope that’s not what we’re dealing with, it’s really something to say this, but here’s to hoping we’re just having a good old fashioned network outage due to faulty hardware or configuration!
October 23rd, 2007 at 9:14 pm
titan is down. please fix.
October 23rd, 2007 at 9:14 pm
Hey, thanks for going down! I was starving! =)
October 23rd, 2007 at 9:17 pm
for those of you that think dreamhoststatus.com never goes down, think again.
the best is when your sites, panel AND dreamhoststatus.com are down.
October 23rd, 2007 at 9:18 pm
Anyone else down right now? control panel not even working.

Yeah, well…it’s shame we all spending more time on here and their chat, when we could be on our own sites… Hey DH, can I have my sites moved to the servers this site is on?!?!?!?
Just hope the price isn’t any different…lmao!
October 23rd, 2007 at 9:21 pm
all sites are down down down or as slow as tapioca. come on people. at least an official word would be appreciated on what the heck is going on and for how long…
October 23rd, 2007 at 9:21 pm
I doubt I’ll be renewing when my year is up…
October 23rd, 2007 at 9:21 pm
“How can you contact them when site is down.”
I sent em an email at support @ dreamhost.com, which is a viable method, straight from DH themselves.
October 23rd, 2007 at 9:22 pm
I have a feeling this could be the big one… the outages have gotten progressively worse over the last two weeks according to my third-party monitoring service. I think I agree with whomever said it might be time to get an east coast provider…
October 23rd, 2007 at 9:22 pm
My site is not “down”, it just takes 5 minutes to load. Also the panel does not work. I can barely even load dreamhost.com. Actually it never loads all the way.
October 23rd, 2007 at 9:23 pm
Just noting that i too am unable to access the panel or most of my sites… some sites will load after a long time… most time out.

So…. 20 minutes of downtime (my site was back up fairly quickly, yours may still be down, but I don’t know)
43200 minutes in a month of service
43180/43200 = 0.9995
Assuming a Monthly payment of 10.95
$10.95 * .9995 = $10.944525
$10.95 - $10.94 = $0.01
Would you like that refund applied directly to your bill?
October 23rd, 2007 at 9:25 pm
The problem is - Dreamhost, when they are good - are really good - who can match them at their best? I have absolutely no idea.
October 23rd, 2007 at 9:29 pm
They must be kidding…
October 23rd, 2007 at 9:29 pm
for those of you that think dreamhoststatus.com never goes down, think again.
the best is when your sites, panel AND dreamhoststatus.com are down.
Oh yeah, for sure. That definitely happens too. I just think THAT happening to them (DH) is far less, than what “we” normal hosted folks get though sigh…
Ya, that sounds good. They set it up. It’s twisted.dreamhoststatus.com (but to teach you a lesson, they’ll DDos your site)
Hahaha…
A refund on downtime would be awesome ;p But I’m sure stuff like this is in the terms when signing up lol.
Yeah, sigh. And next time they revamp their terms… they should include: “Our servers are as reliable as bungie jumping off the bridge with a rubber band.”

[in his most sarcastic tone]
Wow, who could have had the foresight to know and to plan for the client growth due to the recent 10th anniversary sale?
[sarcastic tone over]
Seriously, you can time your website downtime over the ‘coupon code sales cycle’ that DH offers. Everytime, I mean EVERYTIME DH runs some sort of sale, WHAMO! Their operations go reeling - yet, somehow, DH never seems to anticipate the trouble the ‘growth cycle’ could have on their current clients. I am sure the latest will be blamed on the ‘wildfires’ or ‘earthquakes’ or ‘power outtages’ or ‘rain in san diego’ or ‘fill in the f’in blank’….I just cannot imagine how a hosting provider that was soo good for soo long has simply TANKED in the last couple of years - it is disheartening - i now employ a little thing i like to call ’server redundancy’ to insure against more downtime during the next DH sale - you guys are broken and i am not sure that you will ever rebound!

Personally I manage over 25 Web sites on DH and I’ll say this… *usually* when one goes down they all go… and I know these sites are on at least 2 different servers. I’ll also agree with you on the “down” comment… they are not usually down, but 25% packet loss might as well be.

can’t ftp to titan. woah…
October 23rd, 2007 at 9:33 pm
Got a status now… see the new announcement: http://www.dreamhoststatus.com/2007/10/23/secondary-name-server-experiencing-packet-loss/

Hello DH Staff,
I’d normally file a formal support ticket, but it appears the hamsters are tired, hungry and thirsty and needed a break so I am posting my concern here.
I am not able to reach my sites. I tested independently with the Verizon DNS, resetting my local Winsock, Power cycling, using Open DNS, and tried the AOL software (uses ATDN-powered proxies). I’ve successfully narrowed my concern down to the box that hosts my site (SAKE).
For reference, here is the output of my pings. As you can see, I have decent internet connectivity, except to my SAKE box.

http://blog.dreamhost.com/2007/08/21/it-all-falls-down/
at least Blog.Dreamhost.com works, thank goodness.
October 23rd, 2007 at 9:35 pm
This is seriously the last straw for me. Good thing I just picked up another client… as soon as I get his first payment, I’m packing up and moving every damn site I run and moving over to Rackspace/Mosso.

Didn’t really notice the downtime except that the rsync for the extremely large backup of my entire movie/mp3/porn/rom collection failed. J/K
