File Server Maintenance

One of our file servers for the spacey cluster has a dead battery! It will be going down around 10pm PDT for a replacement. Downtime should be no longer than 5 minutes.

My sites on spacey have been slow or down for days now and I can’t seem to get a response from support.

Come on! Get something with dual power supplies, One power cord to one UPS. Another power cord to a different UPS. Then you can replace UPS/batteries without down time.

This is a joke. I guess DH is run by MORONS!!!!

I’ve been having issues too, though I’m not sure which cluster my server’s on. Sometimes it takes five minutes to load my web gallery. Not good when you’ve got family all over the country wanting to see pictures of your three-week-old daughter.

I’m all out of love for Dreamhost. The only thing keeping me here is inertia.

I have the email problem too, both webmail and pop3 access.

my email is down again, would it be possible for these guys to send out a courtesy email to let you know what is going on, as a novice I always think that my computer is “broken” and panic, by the way good joke to put that they dont read these comments…yeah right

We’re working on pulling out of DH. We’ve had serious outages of email on ‘Janky’ and they’ve been unwilling to move us to a new server. Today, our email has been down all morning again. All we get from tech support is vague responses and temporary fixes. They seem to be less willing to be upfront and honest as well, which is really what makes me lose confidence in them.

This has been unacceptable.

Sending email was down earlier today. Now all sending and receiving is down. No response from support on the three tickets I created. No updates anywhere I can find.

My webmail isn’t working either, work related. Please make an announcement on how long this will be for, nothing on emergencey status page about this till I looked here for customer feedback. It is like hearing about hurricane Katrina effects from residents not FEMA. Please communicate with us!

thanks, I too have the wrong password and spend several minutes re-entering before it occurs to me that something else maybe going on..! did say I was a novice..

it’s indeed pretty bad. I have been having problems with my webmail the last few weeks, getting stuck at webmail.mydomain.net/src/redirect.php and having nothing but a blank screen to go by. I have the feeling that dreamhost support had been pretty good lately but it seems to have slowed down enormously. Generally I am not upset too much by dreamhost but for the last 2 years it has gone rather downhill :(

Well, I guess it’s “good” to see that I’m not the only with that can’t access webmail. It’s been dead for three days now. Has DreamHost actually acknowledged this?

Apparently the webmail issues are not system-wide. I haven’t had any issues at all (I’m on the “randy” cluster).

Have you all put in support tickets (some of you say that you have).

@tickedoff - Where does it say that they don’t read these comments? What they do say is that this is not an official way to contact Dreamhost. Not the same thing. Even if they do read these comments, most people don’t post enough detail for them to diagnose problems anyway. For example, in none of your comments do you mention which cluster you’re on, the domain name that you’re having trouble with, or the exact error messages that you’re getting. If I were a DH support person (and I am not), how could I tell what trouble you were having? The whole point of the contact page in the panel is that it gathers the proper information so that the techs can work on the problem.

Both my site and my friend’s site (on another DH server) are down. This is Odysseus and Thunderbird. What’s up?

These 9pm and 10pm downtimes must be awfully disruptive to the primetime Internet usage hours of your west coast customers.

Is anyone else experiencing downtime and difficulty connecting to FTP and accessing their control panel?

No connection, my sites seem to be disappeared even the ftps are gone.
It shouldn’t be like this, too many downed days with DH.

My webmail just went belly-up on both my servers, Rupee and Gaz.

I am saddened to hear the issues other people have had and have thought about pulling out. Honestly, this is one of the few times I have really exprienced issues, other than that massive outage from a while ago.

Remember people, DH is in SoCal, where nearly a million people have been evacuated and over 1000 homes have been destroyed due to fires. A close personal friend of mine has been stranded in San Diego due to the fires, and he is trying to get back to Seattle again. Permanently. Yet they won’t let him leave.

So I say, give DH some slack this go-around, m’kay?

Is there any way to contact Dreamhost when my site, the control panel, and the dreamhost site is down?? My site is literally going down every other day without a way to contact them because theirs goes down as well.
