Major Outage

We are currently experiencing what seems to be a system wide outage. We’ll post more information here as soon as we have it.

Update: Things seem to be working again, we apologize for the outage.

These telephone-pole throwing kilt wearing guys are getting really agitated. They are about to riot, meaning a new host may be in my future.

It came back up for me about 30 seconds before the outage notice appeared here.

any reason for the problem, or did the gremlins just give up?

Yeah, I sort of noticed the outage ABOUT 45 MINUTES AGO!!! Was wondering when when/if it would be posted. And, um, this is getting kind of old.

Excellent timing, I was in the middle of finishing a problematic install of my Comcast internet service and yelling at them for blocking my mail access. I’m glad Google is starting its imap service, moving my mail someplace reliable is finally going to happen soon…

I was trying to actually register a new domain and customer for 3 years under your 101010 deal.

BUT… I can’t the system is not taking my info when i submit. I put in all info 4 tims and excepted the terms and it keeps refreshing the screen so have to start over again and again and again.
AAAAAAARGH!

It really bothers me that the status for this outage is “resolved” and has been so for a couple of hours since I haven’t had FTP access to my site in over an hour. Have all the DH admins gone to bed? What is going on at DH? Did you guys stop paying your admins? Did you stop paying your support contract from Cisco and others?

web panel is sick right now.

Web Panel is still sick for me too. CSS has somehow been diabled and everything is just big ugly text. Also, the “Contact Support” function is not working, so I can’t report the problem.

My domain is also down with a “bad_httpd_conf” error.

I agree with “Steve Jobs” above - does not look resolved from where I am sitting! Thankfully nothing I have hosted on Dreamhost is critical, so I’ll just wait until the gnomes fix things.

how come the status is marked as “resolved” and yet my site and other sites hosted on the same server as mine, DON’T WORK!?

Yeah I am lucky i was still in the money back time, I am currently moving my site and relocating my databases I am so outta here went with a better place…..
Dreamhost has not gotten good reviews from me either when I rated them in several host finding services, I am really really disappointed

Go look at the Better Business Bureau reports on Dreamhost or google “dreamhost sucks”. You will see that you most likely will not be getting your money back no matter how long you have had service, or lack thereof.

my site till now is very bad…service unavailable occurs frequently…Can you guys make the host more stable???

It’s interesting how it seems my site and web-panel are working better than they ever have before, while everyone else is complaining. I wonder if it’s because I find that instead of wasting time complaining, I type something in Word that I’ll post on my site soon. No big deal, gives me a reason to NOT stare at my screen hoping for something to change soon.

Gee, that nasty comment about DreamHost and “go look at their BBB report” is misleading. Their current rating is:

“seems to be working” ?? I wouldn’t take my car to a mechanic with that diagnosis! I’m having email access problems now.

I’m having the same POP and IMAP error messages receiving email. Again. Third day, about the same time each day. Anyone else in the same boat?

@Kevin: I don’t know if this has been recurring each day. I think I was fine yesterday.

Now my domains are loading slow. So is DreamHost panel… methinks “Resolved” is bogus.

Note: Since this issue is marked Resolved, and there is no new issue listed, and the Pane Support page does NOT show any warnings, I have submitted a support request. This is what everyone should do in this circumstance.

@Kevin - it might help if you posted the actual messages that you’re getting. And what cluster you’re on. Is it only receiving, or does it happen when you send also?

I’ve been in webmail at least four times today, and have had no problems sending or receiving. I’m on the “randy” cluster.

No. It Is not resolved. My sites are still done.

I’ve gotten “Error: Connection dropped by IMAP server.” when trying to log into webmail. Similar message on Outlook re: POP. Email server is “frisky”. Just recently I wasn’t able to access the web panel. It’s happened for about an hour a day for the past three days.

I can’t get to my sites anymore. I can’t even get to the panel to file a request with support. It was kind of working earlier, but nothing is responding anymore (multiple machines, multiple domains).

My domain is loading soooooo slow - but at least it is no longer down. Why is it that this always seems to happen when I have a deadline looming?

yep - seems there are still issues - site has been down intermittently for over 24 hours now. Hope they get it fixed up soon

Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at mysql.dreamhoststatus.com. This could mean your host’s database server is down.
Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?

If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

Very very bad! This is first time I post some kind of complain. But DH was very bad for me during several months. Down Down Down Slow Slow Slow!!! Why? If I NEED just a good UPTIME and no more feature, and I don’t change my budget or host, so what should I do?
Please resolve any proble asap, otherwise let me know what hosting is better than DH to switch to it. (Probably any host is better!)

Eh? Drizzlehosting is just the domain for the tiny little web space that my ISP gives me. They’re not a web hosting service. They just happen to be working at the moment.

The BBB is a joke. It’s a for-profit organization… not an unbiased group of charitable people that actually care if anyone gets screwed by a business.

Dreamhost addressed this years ago. For a while it was an F rating… after they stopped PAYING to be a member.

BBB is ok, I filed complaints against telephone companies, electronics stores and cable companies on BBB before, things get resolved real fast after filing the complains (no one cared about my situation before the complaint). So BBB complaints do work. Also I find that those with “F” rating most often do deserve it.

My sites are still up/down/up/down… with no explanation why..

Please be wanred that many of the comments you are about to read come from disgruntled, whiney, and unhappy customers of Dreamhost. And while you are free to agree or listen to them, there are a few notes you might want to remember before you post or leave DreamHost yourself:

1. This is NOT a way to contact DH if you post a comment here. You can and should send them a Support Ticket through your web-panel. If your web-panel is down, then send them an email. They have it listed throughout their websites.

2. While there may be many comments posted on here, enough that you will not read them all, do not assume that they are all from people complaining. You might read through some of these pages and find that 50% of the messages are from the same two people arguing about something stupid.

3. Some of the members that come here may be upset to the point they turn to another host. But, do not think that because 85% of the people that comment on these blogs are upset means that 85% of DH users are upset. You will find that those who are satisfied with DH rarely visit these pages, thus, they never post too many good things.

Bottom-Line, don’t let these comments fool you. DH is still an excellent choice for your Web-Hosting needs!

its just ridiculous that I can’t contact support to tell them my site is down. Its been “Checking Status…” for 20 minutes.. clients are pissed and I can’t even find out if DH knows. What is the problem with contacting DH?
