One-Click Installs: WordPress 2.3.1
The version of WordPress on the One-Click Installer panel has been updated to 2.3.1. This is both an update for security and bug fixes, so it is suggested you update your installs as soon as possible. Sometimes, I think Wordpress is monitoring my sites and releases an upgrade every time I finally get around to doing the previous one.

How can I upgrade 2.3 to 2.3.1? One-click install gave me an error that there is a previous install in the specified directory. Shall i do manual upgrade for this version?

Personally, I don’t like the one-click upgrades–especially if you’ve done any modifications.
Just go to wordpress.org and check out the detailed instructions for a manual upgrade. It’s easy.

I agree with “1″, but if you want to use the “one-click” system, make sure you elect to *upgrade*, not *install* … the install option *will* produce the error you describe, but the upgrade is designed to operate on an existing installation.
To upgrade, look under the “Actions” column on the right side of the screen for your application, and click the “top” choice. For an existing WordPress blog, it will be labeled, “Upgrade to 2.3.1″.

Well, I’m not using the one-click installer, the same reason 1. Wordpress install is just giving up a blog name and email. Upgrading is just one single hit ‘Upgrade’, check the readme.txt in wordpress root for more information. I hate the scenario @Dano is into, something is wrong and you can’t figure out what. I’m not sure if @Dano upgrade manually his one-click-installer get’s corrupted or not.

Only had issues with one WordPress upgrade out of 6 but that’s because of that’s because of the K2 theme and a few of the plug-ins.
The one-click upgrades here are much better than a manual upgrade like I had to do on anothe two blogs hosted at 1&1.

Heya my “one click install” area, no longer shows me as having a wordpress blog, thus I am unable to update wordpress. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks guys, that was really quick! I actually tried to upgrade by myself, by copying over the new files. It failed terribly, all my categories are gone and all tags won’t show up. Then I tried to use the one-click install to upgrade from my dreamhost panel, everything worked perfectly! Even my old categories and tags are back! wow! That was awesome. I thought I’d never see them again. Thanks guys!

Well thanks for the quick update from 2.3 to 2.3.1. If you haven’t done to many tweaks to your theme the one click installs are easy.

I think themes are not affected, I use a custom theme anyway, instead of the default one. Usually the upgrade doesn’t touch any theme at all, except the default one.

If you do regular backups, one-click installs wouldn’t be so detrimental even if things go south…

If you guys want the truly easiest, most effortless upgrade possible, check into using subversion. I’ve got a post about it that documents my recent upgrade process in gory detail, but I’ve actually been using it for some time.
The basic idea is that you only download files which have changed in the new release. If you have a file which you’ve modified yourself that has changed in the new release too, subversion can merge your changes together or you can easily add your changes back to the new file because it shows you which parts have changed. The instructions at wordpress.org are really detailed, too.

I can’t upgrade to 2.3.1 from the One-Click Install page…that option is not there anymore. What happened to it? I don’t really feel like doing a manual upgrade….
