dreamhoststatus.com maintenance
Posted (November 13th, 2007 at 10:31 am PST) by kitchenOver the next few hours we’ll be working on the dreamhoststatus.com database and webserver, which means you might see some downtime of the site. If something critical comes up, we will cease maintenance on the website and make sure it’s back up and running for the duration.
We will try to keep it as available as possible, but it may at times become unavailable.
Thanks for your patience!
Update: We are finished with our testing, and dreamhoststatus is back to normal!

@VOO: nope, we’re just doing some stress testing on it to make sure it doesn’t buckle under insanely high loads.
Unfortunately I haven’t been able to hammer it hard enough to make it buckle
Fortunately I have a lot of resources at my disposal for hammering
Why not replace it with a static HTML page until you’ve done maintenance?
Good job and see you later…
There you go, My database just went down.
My Website is down
No Database, no ssh connection etc.
mine too…
My site is down but I will wait until you guys are done! When you guys post the info up it keeps me posted which is good, but the funny thing is I keep picturing one of you guys with a screwdriver inside a server!
Ditto….
Im tired of you guys…
my site is down, my site is down…
You should be used to it by now, its cheap for a reason… complaining here wont get your site up.
@Koen: because part of the load testing is making sure it still operates under heavy stress. replacing it with a static html file defeats the purpose of the load testing
Meh, sitting around and waiting for one of the sites this downed to come back enough for me to leave a comment. -_-
titan is down…please fix.
If you guys were never down like C I Host ( http://it.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/11/03/2054208 ) or Rackspace ( http://hardware.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/11/13/164253 ) then you wouldn’t have to worry about the capacity of Dreamhoststatus.com
Who am I kidding? Everyone comes to bitch here, even if they aren’t hosted by Dreamhost.
haha… good examples of how little an SLA doesn’t keep servers from going down.
How long has Alabanza/Navisite been down for now… a month?
DREAMHOST? a nightmare.
It seems like “itchy” is down…
How do I find out what is my Mysql server itchy etc? I have not changed any pw or any thing but My word press is giving me error as :
Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at mysql.punjab.net. This could mean your host’s database server is down.
* Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
* Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
* Are you sure that the database server is running?
If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.
what can I do?
Thanks
I am having the exact problem that Mangol is having. Please help.
Is packard.dreamhost.com down ?
any body?
Ray thanks for the message. I was going to re-upload my files etc, but since more then one people having this same problem. Its problem on dreamhost side lets file support ticket. I checked in PhpMyAdmin mysql server or host is packard.dreamhost.com:482XX.
It is now back online.
Yep
Finally . But next time I will check with others here first before I start changing files.
It says the case is “resolved” or “closed”, but we are still getting this 503 error when posting anything in forums: Service Temporarily Unavailable The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.

“If you are experiencing a problem not reported here, check our web panel for more information.”
This sentence appears at the very top of the dreamhoststatus.com front page.
Go to the web panel. Submit a support ticket. Every time your site is down.
Yo….sites are down again…..this is a daily occurrence now…
babyruth down
I make my own underpants out of sandwich bags
What do you call a hosting solution that can guarantee 2 hrs of downtime every day? Dreamhost.
“What do you call a hosting solution that can guarantee 2 hrs of downtime every day? Dreamhost.”
What do you call the person who made the joke quoted above? Dipshit!
Waht do you call Dreamhost secret agent, to entertein people while servrs are down: Voo
Funny. I’ve had Dreamhost for 2+ years and I only recall two times my hosting was down and only one of those was for any extended time (several hours). I don’t believe the posters who say their site is down all the time or 2 hours everyday, etc.
“I don’t believe the posters who say their site is down all the time or 2 hours everyday, etc.”
you r lucky. but yea, the situation is real bad for some of us, believe it or not.
smoothie???a nightmare.my sites are so slow…………………
“Waht do you call Dreamhost secret agent, to entertein people while servrs are down: Voo”
Firstly, that’s VOO.
Secondly… WRONGO, FUCKO!!!
Dreamhost would have fired me some time ago when I made dick sucking remarks at someone who was offended at some other dick sucking remarks I had made… now, kindly go and sodomize yourself with that marshmallow bunny that you still have left over from Easter of 05.
Also, you should check out the built in Firefox spell checker, to which I have just added WRONGO and FUCKO into its dictionary for future use!
That doesn’t change that it’s entertaining.
DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!
I WANT TO LEAVE YOU JACKBUMS!
2 hours a day? Down since like 7 here, 500 errors earlier in the afternoon.
Let’s find a new host.
I sent three “PEOPLE ARE DYING” e-mails to Dreamhost, no response yet.
“I sent three “PEOPLE ARE DYING” e-mails to Dreamhost, no response yet.”
Thanks for backing up the queue even worse for all of us… there could now be three separate support reps tied up with your ONE issue.
Perhaps if you dipshits would limit yourselves to ONE support request per incident then we could all get our issues seen a little quicker.
To those who say that their server is down for two hours daily, why not do the sensible thing and request a server move… they will do so without any kicking and screaming, and even say “If you have any more issues please let us know, we will be more than happy to accommodate you!” or something like that.
Please people, quit proving to the illuminate that eugenics is justified!
Funny… in almost a year, my sites have never (as in NEVER, not even a single time) been down for any cause that cannot be linked to:
1.- my own lousy scripting skills who tend to to make everything fall into small pieces every once in a while when I’m testing beta stuff
2.- server reboots, which take what…. 2 minutes? maybe 5? 5 minutes every what…. 3 months??
you dickweeds need to get a life and stop jerking off (or fingering yourselves if that’s what you fancy) in front of the computer all day. I really doubt you’re getting 2hrs downtime per day. check your sites, it’s probably your fault if you are.
keep in mind:
1.- YOU ARE CAUSING THE SQL ERRORS by keeping thousands of open connections bogging down the boxes. Stop being lazy asses and clean up your code
2.- YOU are making it worse for everyone by sending multiple support tickets. Take thumb out of ass and send just one. you’ll make it better for everyone, including you (btw, I have sent 3 support tickets since I’m a member.. the longest response time I got was… get a hold of yourselves…. 2 hours and 33 minutes!)
3.- YOU need a boyfriend/girlfriend and get laid a bit, instead of sodomizing the rabbit VOO mentioned. At least take on someone your own size and weight classification.
4.- You get what you paid for. Want 99.99999999999% guaranteed uptime, with credit for any occurrence of downtime in excess of 10 microseconds per year? bend over and be sodomized by someone who’ll give you a lousy GB of storage for 1000 bucks a month. Sweet deal right? NOT
5.- you sorry asses should learn the craft first. dreamhoststatus is hosted outside dreamhost. You can’t say your downtime is realated to THIS site’s downtime.
you all should be sterilized… the world doesn’t need any of your offspring. go bitch and moan some place else. I suggest moaning in a motel room
yes, all my sited are off as of now, im disappointed but not surprised.
web panel is down …
really frustrating…….. i am not even able to open my website…….
Just getting ………
The page cannot be displayed………………:
(
“Funny… in almost a year, my sites have never (as in NEVER, not even a single time) been down”
I suppose all the people complaining on here are causing the Dreamhost Web Panel to be down too?
Lagggggy….:(
Our site has been malfunctioning for some time now, it is HORRIBLE today. I have been unable to even send a message to DreamHost! Or back up my database.
It takes forever for ANYTHING DreamHost-related, it seems, to do ANYTHING.
Hey, DreamHost folk - write me ASAP. We need to talk. And fix this.
i cant send email with one of my account
im gettin error SENDER QUOTA REJECTION
ive been trying to work something since 4 hours now. thanks.
I’ve had dreamhost for a year. Changed over when previous hosting company was down for over 3 days — tech support wouldn’t answer any emails, no phone calls accepted… nothing. Finally came back up, still don’t know what happened.
yeah, I’ve been down a few times. And sometimes, things are slower than molasses.
I check the status… if there is no word, send in a ticket… normally within an hour, ticket is addressed (once within 10 mins) and things are back up and running.
Those who don’t like the company… leave. It leaves more bandwidth for those of us who are satisfied. And since few tech support guys read these blurbs (I only do when I need some humour in my life) venting here is pretty useless.
@Jim - The wiki (http://wiki.dreamhost.com) seemed to have this to say:
http://wiki.dreamhost.com/Smtp-quota
DreamHost enforces outbound mail quotas. While trying to send mail, if you receive an error message which mentions “Quota Exceeded,” you have surpassed your mail sending quota. If you hit this quota 2 or more times, your sending ability will be disabled until you contact support. In your support request, please include your email username and email address.
The outbound quota is 100 messages per hour. This quota is counted per hosted email address or per FTP/shell user (when sending via PHP/CGI). Multiple web sites run under a single user name will accumulate according to the same quota, while multiple websites run under different user names will accumulate according to the users’ quota(s). Stand-alone email addresses (not tied to any shell/FTP user) receive their own, separate, outbound sending quota.
Please note that a message is counted whenever an email is being sent out to a recipient. A single email to 100 people in the CC/BCC fields would consume your entire quota. And additionally, 100 emails to a single person would also consume your entire quota.
My guess is you popped your quota and you’ll need to contact support. I’m going to assume you’ve already done this (since this site is NOT an official way to contact DH).
Note this line: If you hit this quota 2 or more times, your sending ability will be disabled until you contact support. In your support request, please include your email username and email address.
There are other solutions for sending out large volumes of mail.
Maybe you need fewer friends. (grin)
Don’t forget that the wiki at http://wiki.dreamhost.com or the forums at http://discussion.dreamhost.com can be very helpful in diagnosing issues that you may be able to fix yourself.
It is critical to remember that the forums are full of other *customers*, not employees.
Do not treat them as slaves or stupid and you’ll get along fine. Show up as an asshole and expect a reasonable response. If you’re lucky they won’t respond at all. If you aren’t lucky you’ll be flamed mercilessly until you go back to godaddy/mediatemple/(or other) where you belong.
(crap, forgot the close tag)
Tim V,
I just checked out your site and it was an amazing 77 seconds to load!
@Timo - Just 4 seconds - looks like things might have settled down.
Timo V. I just tried to edit one of your wiki pages. I gave up waiting after two minutes.
Terrible.
Lost connection to MySQL server during query
and my database server has been changed。
this has been warned before the actual work.. keep it real guys!
