hoover hit with UDP flood attack
We are working to block the attack and restore service as soon as possible. Please check back for further updates.
Update [8:18]: all taken care of and back to normal!
‘nother Update [10:04]: Hoover is currently experiencing very high load and is slow to respond. I’m not sure if this is related to the earlier UDP attack yet but am posting this to let you know we’re aware of its current status and are working to restore service ASAP.

From the Wikipedia article… might be a good idea there Dreamhost, stop relying on iptables on each server
“This attack can be managed by deploying firewalls at key points in a network to filter out unwanted network traffic. The potential victim never receives and never responds to the malicious UDP packets because the firewall stops them.”

I’m sure dreamhost has quite the defense set up.
