For people on spacey having trouble with Mac Mail

When spacey moved, the IP for the email host changed to 208.113.200.50. It’s come to my attention that this has been causing problems with a lot of people receiving and sending email, especially if they had originally followed the wiki article for Mac Mail where you had to alter /etc/hosts . If you did this and you are on spacey, you either need to update /etc/hosts (with the IP above) or start using “spacey.mail.dreamhost.com” as your email server. That should fix most of the issues with this. Of course if you are still having problems after this, feel free to write into support.

actually, you might want to let anyone know that if they have custom MX records - like us - this was affected as well - but then again they might already know this as the mail would still be down… than again, maybe not as the old spacey address still answers for mail requests but does not actually serve up the request.

    Having same problem…

using “spacey.mail.dreamhost.com” hasn’t worked for me?

I’m unable to send mail now. It was working earlier today.

I am also using “spacey.mail.dreamhost.com” via Mac Mail.

Also using Mac mail, NOT using spacey, and SMTP has been failing for about an hour for all my dh accounts! Something seems wrong… I’ve not edited /etc/hosts…

  5. xmd Says:

Support history says they are aware of the outage as of about 615pm

xmd did you get your problem fixed?

panel.dreamhost.com is down, so i’m unable to report this appropriately. I’m unable to access my site’s admin because it says my IP has been blacklisted. I’ve tried from different IP addresses but the error continues (so it’s not actually my IP but dreamhost). This happened just following the Spacey move, which makes me suspicious.

    Error 403
