Sander down
One of our file servers, sander, is currently experiencing some hardware difficulties. Our filer fixing team is looking at it now and expect to have it back online shortly. More details to follow.
This was fully resolved about 15 minutes after this first status post was made. Sorry for the delayed update!

Does sander serve bitters? My site, hosted therein, is unreachable.

my site is hosted on euro, and it is unreachable. My email is down too.

I’m on lira, and my sites and email are down :-(.

This is killing me…might be time to find a new host.

My email and sites are all down. They got to their monthly email outage early this month!

Here’s a list of machines that mount sander as a file server:
alexander annie baht bam bitters bob boppity breakout burns carl cheeky cortes curly dawber dib dinar dollar donkeykong egon ellipsis euro fidget forint gage galaga gap gaz gimli gir glass gloop grant guilder guile happy harpo ikari io kearny klax knocker korben krusty larry lei limbo-randy lira lovejoy marvin minoic monkey neo nimitz ninja otto patton peso pogo pound qbert raiden rhod ruble rygar salt sanjay scagnetti scooter seamus slimy tak tetris trinity ugh ultima vega venice venkman vlad wasabi westside willie winston yen yerba zangief
If you’re on one of those machines, you’ll likely see problems with your mail too until the situation has been remedied. Sorry about that, folks!

Thanks for working on it!

There seems to be a problem with looney 208.113.200.15 too. No email all day long… i’m ready to give up for good…

My site, on silk, seems to be having problems as well, although it is not listed above.

How is a complete outage of so many sites only “moderate” severity? To everyone affected this is an absolutely critical situation. This is the most important time of year for my business, and it’s been over 2 hours with zero sales possible. I can only guess how much every minute is costing me.
December 3rd, 2007 at 7:52 pm
I believe “hoho” is having issues also.
December 3rd, 2007 at 8:23 pm
@Aaron:
you really mean you are stupid enough to host a commercial website on which ALL sales depend, on a cool webhost for less than 10 bucks a month? dude, you get what you pay for, nothing more, nothing less.
On second thought, maybe you’re not just plain stupid…. maybe you’re just cheap

Well said Viking.

Anyone experiencing a weird meltdown? I didn’t think I was hosted on sander (I thought I was powerade) but suddenly, I can’t FTP into any of my accounts…I get an invalid password error, which I’ve never seen before during an outage. Plus, all of my sites return 403 and Forbidden access errors, as if someone hacked into my account and changed everything. Could this be related to the outage?
December 3rd, 2007 at 10:14 pm
In regards to my problems…I’m able to ssh into my account, but it says:
Could not chdir to home directory /home/MYUSERNAME: No such file or directory
Huh?
December 3rd, 2007 at 10:24 pm
@Matt & @Viking we are not all as cheap as you two are. some of us pony up well over $200 pm in hosting fees for a professional service. The sooner we bounce lame arse “hey ive got my home porn on the net” websites like yours off DH the better the rest of us will be
December 3rd, 2007 at 10:42 pm
@art: well said !!!
Remember the time that DH was actually a professional hosting service?

OMG!!!! AGAIN a new full site down in Dreamhost. More than 7 hours without service!!!!!!!!. We’re thinking seriously to change our hosting service.
SEVEN HOURS!!! and the problem is not solved. SEVEN HOURS payback?? not really, isn’t it??

I have been with dreamhost since december last year and it has only had down time 2-3 times and plus they have sorted it out very quickly. Ive had my sites hosted on two servers and both have worked fine.
Has any one thought about asking them to move your site(s) onto another server? its worth a try!

@art
If it wasn’t for porn, there’d be no internet.

Those of you on servers named after drinks, your cluster was moved to a different data center over the weekend which looks like it may have caused ip addresses to change. Make sure you’re not referring to the server by its address number, but by the name, or you might even need to update your nameserver entries by hand if you are using a custom nameserver or a non DH nameserver.
There’s certainly some problems out there to have a file system down for this long. It must be bad.

its been like 18 hours n both my sites r still down WTF !
December 4th, 2007 at 9:44 am
I just launched a HUGE press campaign this morning - to find my site down.
How am I ever supposed to get up and running if DH can’t keep my site up and running
December 4th, 2007 at 11:42 am
Stephanie, your site is *up* for me. Are you sure you are not experiencing some connectivity issues that are not related to DreamHost?
December 4th, 2007 at 4:04 pm
