panel.dreamhost.com issues
We are currently experiencing some issues with the load balancer that sits in front of panel.dreamhost.com. This is affecting other things as well, such as mailboxes.* and secure.newdream.net.
We are currently working on the issue and expect to have a resolution shortly.
We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience!
Update 12:32am pacific: things should be running smoothly again. There were some stuck processes hanging around from an earlier update on 2 of our load balanced panel machines which were making it so there was really only one machine serving the panel (and it was getting full!). We’ve killed the stuck processes (with GREAT VENGEANCE) and things are looking good now. We will continue to keep an eye on the situation, but at this point everything looks fine!
Update: 12:47am pacific: while the panel still seems to be alive and kicking, 2 of the servers are still having some issues, which may cause problems with accessing it. We’re looking into this right now to get it fixed up!
Update: 1:29am pacific: we’ve been watching it now for a little bit and it seems fine, so we’re going to resolve this once again.

For those of you who may come here to inquire about unrelated support issues, consider contacting support via the panel, or using the contact form (from the “Contact Us” link on the front page).
December 6th, 2007 at 12:14 am
How to contact the support team if the panel is not working. My sites are down. I checked the “Contact us” in the DH homepage already and there is only a link to the panel. Should I send my technical support reports to the sales people?
December 6th, 2007 at 12:14 am
Is this stopping FTP services as well?
December 6th, 2007 at 12:15 am
that’s funny. my website is unaccesible too. on melrose.
December 6th, 2007 at 12:15 am
let’s face it. the shit has hit the fan again. that’s why my next project is already over somewhere else. which sucks cause i like dreamhost.
December 6th, 2007 at 12:16 am
I just renewed my contract and I knew that was a mistake
December 6th, 2007 at 12:16 am
To email support…I believe you can send an email to support @ dreamhost.com in order to submit a support ticket.
December 6th, 2007 at 12:19 am
credit where credit is due. that must have been a hiccup. atta boy (and girl) dreamhost. please get your redundancy in place tho!
December 6th, 2007 at 12:19 am
i mean, my site is back up
December 6th, 2007 at 12:20 am
yes, mine is back too
December 6th, 2007 at 12:29 am
I tried to email support directly to tell them of my panel and FTP problem and got this auto-response:
****Quote****
From: Mail Delivery Subsystem
Date: December 6, 2007 1:50:30 AM EST
Subject: Your message was NOT received by support@dreamhost.com!
We’re sorry.. your email was unable to be processed by our automatic
support system, and so is being returned to you.
Our system could not find the open support case you were replying to,
and so could not automatically tie your message into our system. If this
was a reply to an EXISTING issue, please be sure to keep the:
[blah 123456]
in the subject line of your reply!
If this is regarding a NEW issue, we must ask that you submit it
through our web panel at:
https://panel.dreamhost.com/?tree=support.msg
****End Quote****
So how the hell are we supposed to contact support when the panel is down??? I ended up replying to an old support email that had the ticket number in it.
I am a brand new customer and now I’m worried I made a big mistake; especially when I see others here making comments that sound like this kind of stuff is not a surprise.
December 6th, 2007 at 12:39 am
I got the same email. Asking me to go to the NOT WORKING panel. haha
December 6th, 2007 at 12:41 am
And THREE on my domain names expired DURING the downtime. What a joke. I don’t care anymore. Life sucks.
December 6th, 2007 at 12:59 am
Panel is back up but I can’t use my FTP client (I can access it using WebFTP but I prefer my client program). At least with the panel up I was able to officially submit a support case!
I posted a suggestion that DreamHost have a way for us to contact them outside the panel for exactly when this kind of stuff happens. Please screen/vote for it if you have a minute (and can get to your panel!).
Note: I used the contact page (http://dreamhost.com/contact.cgi). I chose “—” in the regarding field. They received my message and properly associated it with me because it is now listed in my support history even though I didn’t contact them through the support interface.
December 6th, 2007 at 4:12 am
Better try sales@dreamhost.com. People have been reporting support@dreamhost.com bounces if you don’t already have an open ticket to reply to.
December 6th, 2007 at 6:06 am
@Pete - Irony of ironies, the load balancer was the CAUSE of the failure.
December 6th, 2007 at 6:11 am
Anyone running Wordpress and getting HTTP Error 403 when trying to log in? I have that going on now for 12 hours and don’t know how to solve that problem. I just can’t get into my admin.
December 6th, 2007 at 7:11 am
It’s all right, I sent a ticket and DH responded within a few minutes! It was a plugin problem. So not the issue listed here. Great service, DH!!!
December 6th, 2007 at 10:37 am
I cannot access all the pages inside the panel. Including adding new domains, or contacting support.
December 6th, 2007 at 10:38 am
Well what do you know, a firefox plugin was disabling javascript on me and the non js links all go to non existant pages =P
December 6th, 2007 at 2:56 pm
My website appears to be unaccessible now, and I can’t login for FTP transfers either. djcoffman.com
December 7th, 2007 at 9:41 pm
@DJ Coffman
your site is in fact accesible and loading quite fast. It’s either something on your end of the connection or it’s already fixed
cheers!
December 7th, 2007 at 9:50 pm
I don’t know if this problem is related to this post but maybe you can help me. I have been experiencing some problems with wordpress since a couple of days, when i try to delete a comment or a post/page i get this message: ‘The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.’ What should i do??
December 7th, 2007 at 10:01 pm
Ask on the customer to customer forums at discussion.dreamhost.com.
December 7th, 2007 at 10:10 pm
I’m getting tired of the intermittent load times my blog has. It’ll load normal for a week or so at a time, then suddenly slow to a crawl for a few days, sometimes with load times of up to 2-3 minutes. I’ve tried disabling plugins, switching themes and nothing works. As a test, I even created a subdirectory and put in a fresh install of wordpress with the default theme and only the test post and that too, loaded slow so I know it’s not my blog that’s the problem. This started about 2 months ago and while not a show stopper, is still annoying.
December 7th, 2007 at 10:34 pm
I’m getting page reset errors in firefox… it’s not resolved yet.
December 7th, 2007 at 10:46 pm
Dammit, cannot get to the panel either, same reset issues
December 7th, 2007 at 10:50 pm
Panel is broken again. Firefox is presenting me with the reset page.
December 7th, 2007 at 10:51 pm
Where do we send support requests when the web panel is borked?
December 7th, 2007 at 10:57 pm
support@dreamhost.com, i am sending them one right now.
December 7th, 2007 at 11:01 pm
Panel = The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
December 7th, 2007 at 11:04 pm
I emailed the support already. Let’s see how fast they’ll take to fix this.
December 7th, 2007 at 11:05 pm
Um, it’s still down
December 7th, 2007 at 11:05 pm
I still can’t reach the panel…. How is this resolved?
December 7th, 2007 at 11:05 pm
Sorry, posted in wrong spot
… grr
December 7th, 2007 at 11:05 pm
WTF is this??
We’re sorry.. your email was unable to be processed by our automatic

it emailed to you if you’ve forgotten it!)

Our apologies for the inconvenience,
–
The Happy DreamHost Support Team!
The point is I can’t get to the PANEL!!!
December 7th, 2007 at 11:09 pm
And when there’s a panel problem, they already know–they use it too. Flooding them with tickets about something they don’t need to be notified of doesn’t accomplish much.
December 7th, 2007 at 11:10 pm
Well, I am just wondering if they are on to this. They should update this status blog.

And if the web panel is down?
Is anyone else having trouble accessing the web panel tonight? I get good response when I bing it from both my location and from washington.dreamhost.com but it won’t load.
J
December 7th, 2007 at 11:16 pm
I just got the same idiotic automatic response from the support email as well. Ridiculous!
December 7th, 2007 at 11:17 pm
Geez is anything working at the moment?
I’ve got no panel, I was majorly affected by the whole Gmail saga… and I’m paying $10 per month for this? Eeek.
December 7th, 2007 at 11:18 pm
web panel is down now
December 7th, 2007 at 11:19 pm
Panel is dead for me right now as well. It’s all down. And I’m paying $50/mo for a DreamHost PS.
December 7th, 2007 at 11:19 pm
https://panel.dreamhost.com/ is still down for me.
December 7th, 2007 at 11:22 pm
Making the switch to hostgator come next payment.
December 7th, 2007 at 11:23 pm
or you could pay $150/mo for a Number 1 (Big Mac) at McDonalds once a day
December 7th, 2007 at 11:24 pm
So.. Dreamhost should know their panel is down by this point right?
December 7th, 2007 at 11:26 pm
I just sent a email through as a reply to an older support email. Hopefully it gets through.
December 7th, 2007 at 11:31 pm
Ya, panel down for me too… damnit. I was planning to do a one-click wordpress install with a new premium news theme i purchased for $70!!! My time is valuable.
December 7th, 2007 at 11:38 pm
about time its fixed
December 7th, 2007 at 11:39 pm
It’s up now. I got in.
December 7th, 2007 at 11:46 pm
and now it is back down…
December 7th, 2007 at 11:47 pm
omfg this is trash
December 7th, 2007 at 11:47 pm
down again… doh!
December 7th, 2007 at 11:50 pm
The load is officially unbalanced……
This is so annoying!
December 7th, 2007 at 11:51 pm
Panel is down for me as well. It would seem that it’s not resolved.
December 7th, 2007 at 11:52 pm
Down.. hmm..
December 7th, 2007 at 11:54 pm
Its offhours, give them a break, sheesh.
December 7th, 2007 at 11:54 pm
I think I’m the one breaking it… immediately after I do a one-click WP install with a new mysql database it goes down… 2X in a row.
December 7th, 2007 at 11:54 pm
down again, via Comcast, Washington (state, not DC).

December 7th, 2007 at 11:56 pm
the panel is again inaccessible.
December 7th, 2007 at 11:58 pm
Alas, I can not reach the panel either. Email is fine, web sites are fine, FTP is working… Just no panel.
For some of us, this is a real problem. For most of us, this is merely an inconvenience. It’s useful to be able to discern the difference…
Relax. Breathe. If you’re losing money or something else of real value, you can demand restitution or at the very least, service credit. If it’s not really hurting you, I encourage you to do something else… Try again tomorrow and hope for the best.
We are paying very little for DH. For all the minor problems ( and one or two major ones) over the years, I still feel very much like I am getting a hell of a good value.
…IMHO
December 8th, 2007 at 12:02 am
I can access the panel, at present, though it is running a bit slowly.
December 8th, 2007 at 12:04 am
It is a problem when my forum has an admin screwing it over and I can’t get into mysql
December 8th, 2007 at 12:10 am
@mjmorrell, point you’re web browser at your mysql hostname (mysql.yourhost.com) and login with the database credentials, no panel needed.
Back up for me now. Hooray!
December 8th, 2007 at 8:49 am
Panel is still unreachable to me. i’m on wiggum.
As mentioned, this prevents me from contacting support. i sent an email via “contact us” on dreamhost.com, but there’s no response yet.
December 8th, 2007 at 11:01 am
It seems to have been working this morning.
December 9th, 2007 at 8:59 am
Elise is down down down… Down for the last hour - 9:00AM PST
December 9th, 2007 at 9:16 am
Cutlass is down, too! Looks like they have a major outage.
December 9th, 2007 at 10:29 pm
Bloody hell! Can’t get to the panel again!
December 9th, 2007 at 10:33 pm
panel is down now
December 9th, 2007 at 10:33 pm
I also can’t get to the panel. I tried to send support ticket via normal email (not via panel which is obviously down again) but the system rejected receiving new ticket via email. WHAT THE HECK?!
December 9th, 2007 at 10:33 pm
Panel isn’t working…
December 9th, 2007 at 10:39 pm
You got to be kidding me. Panel down again?!
December 9th, 2007 at 10:50 pm
It’s been two days, and I still can’t access my panel. I also can’t access the support form, so I can’t send a support ticket.
December 9th, 2007 at 11:04 pm
I STILL can’t access panel, and BOTH of my sites are down. I can’t even access customer service to resolve this issue, and I am afraid my sites are GONE. I need some help on this immediately. Please contact me at the address given. I cannot have these sites down for days as they have been, along with not being able to access panel. HELP!!!!
December 9th, 2007 at 11:18 pm
Panel’s Down again.
worked yesterday, now its unreachable. god damn it.
December 9th, 2007 at 11:32 pm
Had disabled my SSH for security reasons…. Now that damn panel is down again, and I can’t enable my SSH. Guess I should enable SSH on all domains from now on.
December 9th, 2007 at 11:33 pm
Starting to regret paying for hosting in advance……I am a patient person, but this stuff really is testing me to the limit.

December 10th, 2007 at 8:42 pm
Anyone running Wordpress facing problems loggin in and getting weird messages should take care of their plugins. I had Bad Behaviour causing troubles. There seem to be more plugins getting screwed by hackers. Hope this info helps for some of you. I got this info about Bad Behaviour from DH. BTW: Bad Behavior fixed it.
December 10th, 2007 at 10:39 pm
It’s down again guys!!
December 10th, 2007 at 10:43 pm
Down again!
December 10th, 2007 at 10:44 pm

December 10th, 2007 at 11:11 pm
The Panel still isn’t working!!
December 10th, 2007 at 11:22 pm
So why is it down EVERY DAY starting at 10PM PST??
December 10th, 2007 at 11:25 pm
I still can NOT access panel.dreamhost.com…
December 10th, 2007 at 11:48 pm
It’s back up but the damage has been done, for me at least. I’ve been a DH customer since ‘03 and its been very sad to watch this gradual decline. I’m off to another host - best of luck to those who are sticking around!
December 11th, 2007 at 12:10 am
Seems like it is down again?? Anyone else noticing huge delays?
December 11th, 2007 at 12:14 am
Can’t login too
December 11th, 2007 at 12:56 am
How come this issue is resolved when so many people can’t log into0 the panel?
Its down again, btw.
December 11th, 2007 at 12:58 am
The issue is not resolved, I can login but then I get kicked out.
December 11th, 2007 at 1:07 am
Dooooom. This is getting pretty bad, guys. I’m sure you’re working on it and there will be a great story, but it’s been awhile since something this important went chronic with y’all.
December 11th, 2007 at 1:12 am
Kinda hard to migrate away when I can’t get to my DNS settings
December 11th, 2007 at 1:22 am
I guess you get what you pay for…
December 11th, 2007 at 12:41 pm
This is crap, none of my sites load.
What’s more, I cannot even get to the support panel to make a support ticket! That’s crap!
December 11th, 2007 at 8:29 pm
this is whine #100. suck my dick.
