Annoying Network Issues
It appears as if we’re running into little flurries of bad connectivity on the network currently. Please know that we’re doing everything we can to level this back out. Hopefully it shouldn’t take too long to remedy, but we thought those of you seeing issues would appreciate the acknowledgement of a problem. As always we’ll let you know when things are taken care of.
Update: 6:52pm pacific: The network issues have been resolved. We had deployed some new networking hardware for the ‘blingy’ cluster and a couple of the ports were misconfigured, which caused random weird issues all around.

Good to know that this is acknowleged - good luck in finding the problem!
December 15th, 2007 at 2:37 pm
Thanks for acknowledging, good luck in figuring it out.
December 15th, 2007 at 2:38 pm
Well it been quite a while since we had problems, but it bound to happen once in a while, figures LOL
Please don’t delay fixing problem, Even my PS is down…
December 15th, 2007 at 2:38 pm
As an end-user I’d been wondering about this. I’d be connected fine for 10 minutes, then POOF - software error on my puTTy client. Just as an FYI, I can’t access telnet -or- my e-mail, both of which run through your beaudry server.

Was noticing a lot of lag, thanks for the acknowledgment.
December 15th, 2007 at 2:38 pm
Naturally this would occur in the middle of working on a project
Thanks for the heads up though…
December 15th, 2007 at 2:39 pm
Damn… I knew it! Just when I’m uploaden 12 files of 370 MB worth… had to redo 7 of them. Good luck on updating the network. Lets hope this does not turn into another ulgy three days offline thing.
December 15th, 2007 at 2:39 pm
Yah i was working on a project too, but its back up now/
December 15th, 2007 at 2:40 pm
Nothing new.
Those of us that have been here a while now are used to the screwed up crap that always “just seems to happen”.
December 15th, 2007 at 2:41 pm
yep it back up and working for me too,
well thanks DH for the speedy fix
December 15th, 2007 at 2:45 pm
Man, a few months back i hasn’t sure if i had made a good choice with hosting,
but so far so good, it never gonna be up24/7 but they do fix problems fast, most of the time…
And good support.
all for a decent price.
Keep up the good work DH team.
December 15th, 2007 at 2:52 pm
Yup. Its all back up again… the files have been upped as well… but for the same ammount, the sites and services (since I could not log in to the panel either) could be down in say 10 minutes again.
Speedy recovery though… thats to be expected with DH. Good service for little price (though I am one of the few that pays 20 dollars a month for the same service as others pay 7 dollars, or 19 dollars a year).
December 15th, 2007 at 3:12 pm
Mine works again too, but i have problems since yesterday
Good to see it’s working for almost all people again.
December 15th, 2007 at 3:13 pm
One more thing, at least for me the site loads very slow.
December 15th, 2007 at 3:42 pm
Still experiencing it, I hope it gets fixed soon.
December 15th, 2007 at 4:18 pm
well hope you fix it soon, i havent had an error in a while but this 1 ended up being when i was busy, but oh well what can i do..
good luck

Blingy Email server is still down, I hope they have backup provisions on email so that mail isn’t rejected.
December 15th, 2007 at 4:43 pm
Thanks. Looks like it’s not as problematic as it was a few hours ago.
December 15th, 2007 at 4:55 pm
And it’s off once again. I have tried to contact dreamhost in the past about occasional problems that don’t show up here in the status site, but unfortunately you have to be a paying dreamhost subscriber. I’m “only” an end user - you know, the people who support those people who pay dreamhost, the reason dreamhost has a business at all. So I don’t count. I can’t even send them e-mail because they don’t provide an e-mail address for service issues. Unless of course it’s on that “secret members only” site that I can’t access without a login and password.

???? you are confusing my friend if you are paying for an account you get access to support, web form support
December 15th, 2007 at 5:21 pm
I’m not paying for an account. I don’t -have- an account. As I’ve said already, I’m an END user. Like uh..shoot. A gaming company might rent a server from Dreamhost, then open that server for their game players. I’d be one of the players. I’m not a Dreamhost customer. I’m a customer of the guy who’s the Dreamhost customer. Dreamhost wouldn’t have that many customers, if those customers didn’t have people like me to use whatever services those customers provide to THEIR customers. Get it?
December 15th, 2007 at 6:34 pm
A end user or developer? I didn’t know that users had such access, in fact if one of my users tried to report a problem I would get angry, for many reasons. and if you are a developer, won’t the account holder give you access to such stuff, if you were so important to the account holder?

BLINGY IMAP still says 0 messages. See them in webmail and shell though.
December 15th, 2007 at 7:16 pm
I can see your point, but how would the users of a site know for certain whether an issue there is being caused by the host? I could turn my PS way down and it would look for all the world as though my host was having serious issues, yet that would be on my end not theirs, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. I’d rather they spend their time addressing the issues that I’m pretty sure aren’t from me, than sifting through a mess of things they can’t do anything about when I can.

@Nathaniel, ROFL dude you crack me up.
I found out that Dreamhost possibly does have backup provisions on email which sort of cheered my day up. I emailed my self from gmail while the server was down and received it after I checked if the server was up :). Yay for Dreamhost. I am glad to be a customer.

@EnvyGeeks

December 17th, 2007 at 10:36 am
@jill - Why have you got ASP on DH’s servers? (If you even are on them…) Are you using Mono or something similar?
December 17th, 2007 at 2:44 pm
@Thomas - ‘Jill’ isn’t on DH servers
December 17th, 2007 at 6:43 pm
@Thomas - I’d like you to meet my “partner” Ms. Link Spammer, AKA Jill.

Right… and next you’ll be thanking your car dealer for including an engine in the car you purchased from them. Sheesh.
