Happy New Year!
If you’re into that kind of thing.
We ended up getting 66 donations for a total of $5878.47 which we matched and then donated to Union Rescue Mission who in turn got it doubled for a grand total of $23,513.88!
Their site says that’s enough to feed 14,337.7317 people!
Or, in l33t-speak, LAEET TEIT people!
Great Job!
.
January 1st, 2008 at 4:57 pm
Well that’s pretty cool except for the guy who gets served only the .7317 of a meal and will feel sorta discriminated
Seriously, great job!

my server is down! happy new year to everyone!
January 1st, 2008 at 6:46 pm
Happy new year all
January 1st, 2008 at 7:05 pm
my site came back up for a brief period. and now it’s down again…. loooks like it’s REALLY gonna be a fun year with DH
January 1st, 2008 at 10:48 pm
@Extreme BitTorrent: your site seems very much alive to me. It’s even pinging back faster than my sites (39ms versus 77ms) so it may be, perhaps, something on your end of the connection?
January 1st, 2008 at 11:05 pm
the web panel is down
January 1st, 2008 at 11:11 pm
^yup.
Came back up for a minute, but is now hanging then dropping.
January 1st, 2008 at 11:13 pm
^yup.
Came back up for a minute, but now I just can’t get in to Manage Domains. It just hangs…
January 1st, 2008 at 11:17 pm
It’s not even the 2nd full day of the new year and I can’t access my domain management tools. I rarely do admin work but since I switched to “dream” host it has been a nightmare - I keep having problems using the web panel that dream host loves to brag about. I thought my last hosting company sucked but the only time I wasn’t able to log onto their control panel was when the entire northeast had a power black out!! Thank goodness my company didn’t take my advice and switch to dream host or I’d look like an idiot. Now I have to deal with finding another host and transferring my domain again because I’m sick of all these server time-outs when I’m trying to get work done. Happy New Year? Not so far.

Sorry about the double posts… but you guessed it: I got a server not responding error on the first post! (BTW, I have excellent ISP service right now - as a former ISP tech I know it’s not my side with the problems).
January 2nd, 2008 at 12:13 am
That’s really messed up, except this is a post about the donations.
Happy new year.
January 2nd, 2008 at 12:14 am
re. David - “I have excellent ISP service right now - as a former ISP tech I know it’s not my side with the problems.”
I can’t speak for what was going on for *you* at 11:20PM, but the panel was responding fine for me at that time (as it is at present).
Fomer ISP techs should know that there are a *lot* of reasons you could be experiencing connectivity issues that may not be related to DreamHost *or* to your “excellent ISP service”.
January 2nd, 2008 at 12:58 am
Happy New Year.
January 2nd, 2008 at 3:09 am
Happy New Year y’all. And remember: negative feedback will hardly ever be a stimulus.
January 2nd, 2008 at 5:54 am
@david - Note that dreamhoststatus.com isn’t even hosted at Dreamhost so your posting problem has nothing to do with their hardware/configuration/networking.
January 2nd, 2008 at 9:31 am
This is funny. For the last 3/4 hours, when I try to browse to my site, I go to a completely different website…. in my case, my domain automatically redirects to this scammy site: http://www.getgoogleadsfree.com/indxtmsup.html
And this has been happening intermittently, not to mention the speed of the site is also sluggish.
This is outrageous. Although I wouldn’t be complaining had it been the other way around… that scam site has >200000 uniques per month… lol!

Ow! It got all messed up!
January 2nd, 2008 at 1:02 pm
That’s almost what http://www.johnchow.com made this month.
January 3rd, 2008 at 10:59 am
Happy New Year! Glad to hear DH was able to donate so much to a good cause.
January 3rd, 2008 at 12:36 pm
Good grief. Good thing this wasn’t a SUPPORT related topic. Sheesh.
Thanks to everyone who donated to such a worthy cause.
January 3rd, 2008 at 1:20 pm
What’s “LAEET TEIT” again?
January 3rd, 2008 at 6:15 pm
it’s 14,337.7317
Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leet for an explanation.
January 4th, 2008 at 12:10 am
I can’t file support tickets in the web panel. After I pick a section, it starts to scan, and then puts me back at the first page. And since that’s the only point of contact…well… =\
January 4th, 2008 at 6:16 am
Use the contact page on www.dreamhost.com if you have issues with the panel. It won’t open a ticket, but it will get seeen.
You may also want to try a different browser to ensure that it’s not something else causing the problem.
January 4th, 2008 at 9:28 am
Hmm, looks like dreamhoststatus.com IS hosted by DH?

January 5th, 2008 at 5:23 am
Congratulations! Happy New Year to you. Much appreciated
January 5th, 2008 at 7:01 am
Happy New Year and congrats with the donations, but…..
all subdomains - main entry points - of our site are down for 14 hours now, and the database access is messed up, too now. All due to a routing issue at DreamHost. And support hasn’t communicated for 10 hours, after telling me that they are working on it.
I wonder when they start donating to us for all the missed business?
(and before the anti-whiners start whining…. we opened this account when DreamHost still provided business-strength solutions)
January 5th, 2008 at 11:22 am
Our site is down too… no notification, nothing…
January 5th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
@whoi101 - That was about the time they started developing Duke Nukem Forever, right?
@Julian - Your site is working but like the outage - “no notification, nothing”
@mike - Registration isn’t hosting. (grin) If you looked at where the DNS entries point, you’d find the IP is hosted by another company, just like ns2.dreamhost.com
January 5th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
Down….. Hard. Everything. Down.
January 5th, 2008 at 10:37 pm
I see I’m not the only one having problems. I can access my panel and dashboard but when I try to access my site, I get the 500 Internal Server Error: “The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.”
It was working fine yesterday and this morning and I’ve made no changes…
Nice.
January 5th, 2008 at 11:49 pm
Ditto. Also down. FTP worked, momentarily. Email still working, which is also odd. Browsers just keep seeking with no timeout or 500 error. Obviously, no notification here, or we wouldn’t all be kvetching. This is the 2nd occurrence since the New Year. Bot logs from the last time showed a 45-60 minute gap, so maybe this will resolve itself in that time, too.
January 6th, 2008 at 12:17 am
“…so maybe this will resolve itself in that time, too.” Yep. Still put in a ticket tho.
Otherwise, Happy New Year to everyone else.
January 6th, 2008 at 3:58 am
Dreamhost Status is hosted at ServePath… http://www.servepath.com
January 6th, 2008 at 10:51 am
Pale/Nomad - know that the mail service is actually run from another set of machines, not actually on the shared server that serves HTTP and FTP. Both your sites are working this morning.
January 7th, 2008 at 12:36 am
@PalePhoenix & Nomad: Sometimes the Apache (webserver) process crashes for certain domains, this results in some domains on the same server to work and others sites not to load, sometimes even subdomains will work while you main domain is down. These kinds of issues are have never been reported here (to my knowledge) and are mostly solved relatively quickly.
January 7th, 2008 at 11:35 pm
Down once again. Everything… Down.
January 7th, 2008 at 11:36 pm
Me too…

Happy new year a few days late. And DH have to improve their customer service for 2008.
