LAX data center connection issues
We are currently experiencing connectivity issues to our LAX data center.
All servers in the following clusters would be involved:
Blingy, Frisky, Looney, Spacey, Swarthy
Updates to come.
Update: All Servers seem to actually be up, but there is heavy packet loss at the distribution switch making them seem down to the outside.
Update: Packet loss has stopped. Our admins do have significant network upgrades planned shortly as a long term fix connectivity issues like this. If you have any further downtime , let support know via our panel form.
Update: Spoke too soon, Packet Loss is back . Our admin team is working feverishly on this.
Update - Wed Jan 23 21:34:52 PST 2008 - After a reload the switch is working properly again. We are already in the process of a major upgrade to this particular part of the network to resolve this issue. The actual swap-out of equipment will happen as soon as possible. Until that time we will be taking steps to keep the current switch operating properly.

Also, I’m working on a development contract for someone due this friday and I can’t test what I’m doing because I can’t run my scripts or access my database.

You don’t know the half of it. If you say anything out of line, they label your post as spam and ban your IP. Luckily there are ways around that issue, unlike ways of making my site magically reappear.

Arkanoid, incl. m MySQL database, is either down, or extremely slow, but the longer we’re in this, the more we are down.

Is it often that DreamHost goes down? I bought my account at Christmas, and I can recall at least 2 downtimes during peak time.

They probably forgot to pay their hosting bill after all the refunds that were paid out late last week… If your looking for someone with a little more stability, these guys are up, and netcraft puts them in the top 10 for uptime:

dreamhost is good for about 10-15 outages a year from my experience
support is basically clueless and doesn’t respond until problem is fixed and then they say there was no problem…

Some consolation in knowing it’s not just us. Something must have been starting yesterday as that’s when we started to get 503 errors while posting or while moderating comments. But gosh, it’s frustrating when we’ve just broken another news story … and nobody can see it right now …

Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at mysql.dreamhoststatus.com. This could mean your host’s database server is down.
Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?
If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

My web and mail are connecting, but timing out before anything can transfer across. This is honestly tho one of the few major downtimes I’ve ever seen. They happen for short periods once in a while… but seriously, hardware is crashes for everyone sometime.
