spunky filer offline
One of our filers in the “spunky” cluster seems to have crashed and is not coming back up remotely. Our technicians are on their way in to the office to attempt a repair at this moment. The current ETA is around one hour.
Edit: 6:18AM Pacific - The filer has been fixed, and we believe to have most web server issues resolved. Please contact support if you are having trouble!

Ok, what servers/clusters are affected by this ??
my site has been down for several hours now…maybe longer

same here my sites at flower have been down for a while. contacted support about an hour ago but not heard from them.

I also can confirm this has been down since 1AM for me. I have some questions — why is there such high network latency once the “big pipes” enter your network? This latency makes my site very slow, and often inaccessible.
Years ago, Dreamhost used to be a quality Web host … why are you trying to make me take my service elsewhere? I don’t need a trillion gigs of bandwidth, I just want reliability.
Thanks for listening,
Joe

Same problem here. HTTP access to sites has been down since this morning (on gummi). Still no response from support.

Another Day, Another Outage.

January 28th, 2008 at 6:06 am
I have one site down and the other I can hit over http, what’s strange is they are both on badillo…
January 28th, 2008 at 6:19 am
hmm mine is still down
January 28th, 2008 at 6:30 am
I’d like to confirm that Web services are functioning for me. Still rather displeased with the frequency of outages and issues lately.

I’m still down, it pings, I can ftp in, but no access over http.
January 28th, 2008 at 6:42 am
hmm same here, why would they mark it resolved if it is clearly not?
January 28th, 2008 at 6:42 am
cool my sites are back
January 28th, 2008 at 6:43 am
Still down here as well.
January 28th, 2008 at 6:47 am
ah mines up now
January 28th, 2008 at 6:57 am
I’m back, it’s probably just bad routing patching its self out.
January 28th, 2008 at 7:02 am
mine has been touch and go, seems slow as crap at the moment, it was slow/high latency last night as well ;(
January 28th, 2008 at 7:05 am
I still cannot SSH to paramount (and the website is down). I hope they don’t write off my service ticket since they fixed the filer

Support,
I still think dreamhost should have phone support… so far all my inquery’s since I signed up for this site have taken over 30min for a response… a phone call is much much faster and you can actually tlak to someone and get some answers unlike these guys that just sit and go “Well I don’t want to answer that, do you want to joe blow?..Nah”
I’m aware that this is not meant for contacting dreamhost.. to me it makes no difference since my issue is pending at 2 1/2 hours with no response.. lightning fast support without phones there DH!
January 28th, 2008 at 7:57 am
yeah - open support ticket since last night - no response. email server is on spunky and still isn’t working!
January 28th, 2008 at 7:58 am
Mine is back now. Thanks!
@Eric: I would bet that you would just end up in a queue most of the time. During an outage like this, the hold time would be so long that you would just hang up (hours?). IMHO, it would end up wasting customers’ time and diverting DH resources. No-one likes the dead silence from support, but I suppose it’s like waiting for news at the hospital. It would be nice if someone responded every time I wanted to know how the surgery was going, but I’d really rather they worked undisturbed and finished the job competently and as quickly as possible.

ok, webmail works. But I dunno if that still means it lives on spunky. still can’t download to Mail ap. Don’t know why that would be. I’ll have to wait it out from DH but at least I can get to my email.
January 28th, 2008 at 8:30 am
restarted Mail ap. that did it.
crazy, crazy dreamhost.
January 28th, 2008 at 8:52 am
My site is up…it’s just slow. Again. And it’s NOT my connection, either.
January 28th, 2008 at 9:07 am
beverly is still down as all my sites
January 28th, 2008 at 11:18 am
All up and running. Thanks!
January 28th, 2008 at 6:16 pm
Hey, at least they didn’t have a flood in one of their datacenters that would cause multiple days outage (I do not know enough of their setup to know if something taking all systems in one datacenter would out right kill sites hosted there or not)
January 28th, 2008 at 8:03 pm
MiquelFire, you actually think for as little as they charge, and as much downtime as they have, that there are fully redundant systems for each web site across multiple data centers? Hahahahah Hey, I have some land in Florida for sale, really cheap?
January 29th, 2008 at 1:28 am
Yeah, because supports’ time would be MUCH better spent talking to you on the phone, than fixing the problems.
They don’t need to answer the phone 1000 times for the same problem, when it’s much easier to group tickets by problems, deal with the problem, then get back to people.
January 29th, 2008 at 5:31 am
My site went down for how long I didn’t know. It was down few minutes ago when i started using net, but now it is up… I guess they are working on it to fix all…
January 29th, 2008 at 8:01 am
Heh. Never noticed it go down.
