DreamHost Wiki and WebFTP sites are down. FIXED!
We apologize for the inconvenience. Unfortunately there’s a problem that’s causing both our Wiki and WebFTP service to give an error. Our admin team has been alerted and is currently working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible. No need to submit any support tickets for either of those problems at the moment.
If you can use a stand-alone FTP client in the mean time I’d recommend doing that until we can get the WebFTP service back on-line again.
Thanks for your patience while we work to resolve these issues.
Your-early-morning-”we’re fixing it now”-team.
UPDATE: 7:11 PST. They’re both fixed now! If you have any problems with either feel free to submit support requests again via the normal channels.

February 15th, 2008 at 7:39 am
I can access the wiki with no problems… I haven’t tried webftp though since I’ve always used a standalone client
all other services seem OK to me… go DH!!!
February 15th, 2008 at 7:39 am
One of my sites is offline too. I wonder if this is responsible for the website being down.
February 15th, 2008 at 7:55 am
Mine are fallen too… I bet this is for the same reason.
Jeeezzz, each time DH sneeze I got cold… Guys come on!
February 15th, 2008 at 8:00 am
Wow, it was some kind of DH record or something… They’re back!
February 15th, 2008 at 11:32 am
My sites are down..All of them! How can this happen? they are on different serves, but all 29 sites are down! Argh!
February 15th, 2008 at 11:40 am
all my sites are down, again.. I beginning to loathe DH…

“My sites are down..All of them! How can this happen? they are on different serves, but all 29 sites are down! Argh!”
Did you IM someone on a different system to see if they could see your sites? It isn’t uncommon for individual ISPs go down for only certain parts of the net (due to their own hangups or connections in the middle having trouble). Our school’s was great at that a few years back…

Writing this just in the hopes that the people who comment read it and take it to heart.
Dreamhost is a commodity shared webhosting service. I have worked in the industry on the service provider side and have noted two things about DH: They have an unusually transparent system of reporting problems to us and they do an amazingly well of preventing and correcting problems.
I don’t know their architecture that well, but assuming it is similar to others I have either designed or maintained keeping even two nines uptime is nearly impossible. Why? It’s often us, the customer. In a shared environment you’re living in the equivalent of an apartment complex that is always nearly fully occupied. No admin, no matter how skilled, can prevent hardware failures or software failures (remember, all software has bugs) or unexpected circumstances due to users “creatively” using the service.
So… hate Dreamhost if you want. Seriously - go by a colo server and knock yourself out administering it. Think you can’t afford that? Don’t gripe about the oodles of money you’ve lost when you’re down! Do an assessment based on time and revenue lost in down time against the uptime/revenue you might gain (minus increased costs) going somewhere else.
Bitching on a outage notice (that support doesn’t even read) about your inconvenience doesn’t do anyone any good.

But we’ve lost trillions from people going to our website! How can we pay for our wars if we can’t infect people’s machines?

Did bitching here help?
February 17th, 2008 at 10:11 am
Since the site is now back up, it’s a question of causality? Did bitching here, which is *NOT* a way to contact DH support, fix the site? Or was it the support request entered through the appropriate (https://panel.dreamhost.com) channels?
I guess we won’t know until people actually test by only bitching here rather than reporting through the panel. But it doesn’t appear that anyone has the patience to submit the request and then wait without coming here and threatening to call out the cops for fraud or leave to some other hosting.

@PiriketSeverler -
In the cause of science, and to determine just what caused your site to come back online - Did you submit a request to the panel or just post it here?
Your site is up right now. If you only posted it here and it came back up, maybe this is the best place to let people know.

My bank account needs more money!
February 18th, 2008 at 1:12 am
@ Please to relax: eloquently put. I agree with you 100%! DH does not hide anything from us. They are upfront about outages. They may not update as quickly as they should, but keep in mind what they need to do to get ya’ll happy! If you think you can do better, by all means, go coloc yourself!!
February 18th, 2008 at 8:54 am
@Please to relax: in a word: DITTO!. I couldn’t agree with you more, DH does an amazing job keeping a shared hosting environment decently stable. I couldn’t ask more from them for what I pay (which is 120 bucks a year, sweet deal)
@I’m tryin that: Mine too! an probably everyone else’s do too… I’m pretty certain no one would ask their account to have less
February 18th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
It didn’t work. Think I should try a ticket?
February 18th, 2008 at 5:17 pm
it can’t hurt!
February 19th, 2008 at 6:59 am
the server is down…….
February 19th, 2008 at 7:02 am
@Michele - 300,000 domains run on THOUSANDS of machines. You probably need to be just a tad more specific unless you were just looking to vent your mild frustration.
February 19th, 2008 at 7:10 am
Mine is down too

One of my sites is down on Jove. Anyone else on Jove experiencing problems (and yes, I contacted support).
February 19th, 2008 at 9:08 am
Lesabre down as of 2 hours ago. Logged a ticket about that time as well and I haven’t heard anything as yet, this is getting a bit silly now.
Currently looking at the prices for VPS solutions.
February 19th, 2008 at 9:29 am
Jove seems to be working again, fwiw.
February 19th, 2008 at 9:54 am
And just what do your websites have to do with either the Wiki or WebFTP?
Oh, that’s right. Nothing.
February 19th, 2008 at 11:02 am
Now my site is completely non-functional. wp-cache just reset so now even the static pages are gone.
February 19th, 2008 at 11:09 am

I can’t access http://FTP.
February 19th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
You guys are saying this is fixed, when I find its clearly not fixed.
Also can even send things to the support crew. whats going on?
February 19th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
You guys? This was posted on the 15th - any outage is a new outage.
February 20th, 2008 at 5:22 am
It appears that the “This is not an official way to contact DH support” message is no longer displayed on this site. No wonder we’re getting more unrelated “It’s busted” messages.
(Who am I kidding, no one ever read that message in the first place)
February 20th, 2008 at 7:42 am
Getting errors from both webftp and standalone ftp reporting that the host is down. C’mon already!
February 20th, 2008 at 8:17 am
My site is *not* down at the moment, but I am sure it will be any second now. Should I panic at this time or just wait until later and go nuts then?
February 20th, 2008 at 11:12 am
Email is down - and is it just me or have there been fewer emails going through since DH’s email glitch last week?
February 20th, 2008 at 11:19 am
Email still down for me, and I’ve also had a few friends mention a few of their emails to me bouncing the last few days…
February 21st, 2008 at 6:54 am
@Says - It’s quite likely you’re already nuts because you’re a customer here. And I do believe that “nuts” is the only freedom remaining in this country.
February 22nd, 2008 at 9:31 am
i can not still enter my site, so nobody can.
