Blingy File Server Issues
A file server on the Blingy cluster is getting backed up with IO processes. This is leading to sky high loads and slowness across the cluster. An admin is looking into this as well as updating a trouble ticket with the file servers vendor.

Nothing surprises me with dreamhost any more. I’ve been a customer since 2003 or 4; their support is at its worst its ever been in that time. I’m actively looking for a new host with real support, not “Thanks for your ticket, we’ll respond in 24 hours”. Guess what?!
March 4th, 2008 at 2:39 am
I think dream host is the best
every host has its problems
at least dream host tell us about them
and its got great support they reply within 24 hours however other hosts u don’t know when they will reply
March 4th, 2008 at 4:02 am
What is wrong with my domain? First the blog screws up, it’s showing like I’ve just installed wordpress, now none of the pages are working.. WHAT’S UP?? I just paid a full year hosting last week…don’t make me regret that
March 4th, 2008 at 10:47 am
As usual people don’t understand how much effort it takes to maintain the amount of servers they have.
As reply2 said - at least they tell us
Instead of just bitching, im going to add a useful post
my mailserver isnt working and im on email server spunky
im assuming its related to this issue
March 4th, 2008 at 11:02 am
Hello,
BTW, my webs are actually not working, and I’m in Touarete or something like that xD
In example: pixjuegos.com, panreyes.com, carlingobernador.com, etc…
March 4th, 2008 at 11:17 am
I have been with DH since 2004 and their customer service and hosting has always been top knotch.
Danny I had a similar issue and I have Spunky also. I did a test on the account thru the webpanel and it looks like they did a reboot since the test and now the email is working for me.
March 4th, 2008 at 12:53 pm
I really like Dreamhost but account on jackie and toadstool have both been suffering from really high server loads at times. This really slows everything down - even shell access is really slow. Hope this resolves issues cause I don’t know how much longer I can stay with really overloaded servers.
March 4th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
“Sobe” has been rebooted a number of times over the past week… I just assume it’s related to the file server issue, but it’s not listed as one of the servers affected …so what’s up?
March 4th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
Anyone know why the Web Panel is screwing up — like the .css is not coming through or something?
March 4th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
I tried to contact support in the web panel, but it won’t let me get past the first page.
Trying to go to chat.dreamhost.com comes up with a cloaking error.
March 4th, 2008 at 4:56 pm
@#10 - on 10. March 4th, 2008 at 3:59 pm, David said: ” I tried to contact support in the web panel, but it won’t let me get past the first page. Trying to go to chat.dreamhost.com comes up with a cloaking error.”
David, there is a known problem with FireFox 3 that often manifests itself that way on the first page of the Contact Support routine in the web panel, and using a different browser remedies the situation if that is, in fact, the problem (just a thought)
There is no DreamHost chat that provides access to support - that chat facility is for customer-to-customer chat, and is very lightly used - most DreamHost customers who want to chat tend to hang out on freenode’s #dreamhost channel.
You can always contact support via the general purpose contact form at http://dreamhost.com/contact.cgi
March 4th, 2008 at 7:08 pm
I’m using FF2,
Regardless if chat is it being lightly used, there’s something wrong with the dns record for it. Why put a link up for Chat, when it doesn’t take you anywhere? Is the link broken, or has chat been disabled completely, and they just haven’t removed the link to it?
Looks like the contact form is working now.
March 4th, 2008 at 7:38 pm
My server (baacus) has been giving me server load errors for the last month. Time after time I go through support and they keep saying its my issue. Which is odd cause I ddi nothing different. Even fresh installed me entire forum.
:shrugs:
Moving host this check anyways due to the quality of customer service through out this problem, even though Ive been error free for almost a week.
March 4th, 2008 at 8:04 pm
Is this why my cloaked site lost it’s URL?
March 4th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
This sucks for my site. Every time I get posted to digg or reddit my site starts going down. And not from the digg effect, but because dreamhost cant keep their product working. Awesome.
March 4th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
The lack of updates on this issue is ridiculous. Its been a day and they haven’t updated paying customers as to why their hosting is down. I guess thats why they try to lock you into paying for a year, because if you were monthly they see checks less and less and less.
March 5th, 2008 at 6:32 am
How do you find out the name of your server you are using?
Thanks
March 5th, 2008 at 9:19 am
@Terrel
open the panel, click on your status and a list will come down…. the name under mail server is your cluster, and the name under web server is your webserver
cheers
March 5th, 2008 at 1:29 pm
I would call this a pretty severe problem, instead of medium considering my client’s website is completely down.
March 5th, 2008 at 1:37 pm
Sobe was just rebooted again… it would be really, really nice to know WHY since it isn’t listed as one of the servers as covered under this issue.
March 5th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
My bad - Sobe wasn’t rebooted, it was just inaccessible for awhile. Again, though, why?
March 5th, 2008 at 1:52 pm
Experiencing horrible load times of my simple cms website wowdev.net, the panel seems to be loading slowly as well.
this problem has persisted for about the last 2 weeks and varies depending on time of day.
Link web server, blingy mailserver and Chip mysql server.
every time ive run the tests on my host it errors with server load too high.
getting a tad frustrating that appearantly 4am is the only time it loads properly.
thanks
March 5th, 2008 at 3:34 pm
jason, I’m in the same boat. I’ve seen the same persisting problem that varies depending on time of day. Sometimes the load on the server is very low and my sites serve up lightning fast. Other times the load is in the 30s, 40s, I’ve even seen it in the 80s. Then the site is super low and even ssh access is extremely sluggish. Test thought the Panel show errors of server load too high. I really hope they fix it this time. I’m on webserver jackie.
March 5th, 2008 at 6:15 pm
Almost two days now? I’ve had websites for the last 7 years and I have NEVER had a server down this long. This is very strange and very discouraging. I cannot imagine staying with this host when our arrangement is finished. How can you stay in business when others are doing such a better job then you are?
March 5th, 2008 at 8:10 pm
I just joined Dreamhost 3 weeks ago, and it has been nothing but a nightmare. I could try to access my site at any random point during the day and it just loads incredibly slow or times out. Performance has ALWAYS been horrible. Now today I’m lucky if I can even load it at all. I am literally on the verge of canceling the contract. Get some competent people managing your servers. This is ridiculous.
March 5th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
Guys pls fix it asap. All work was frozen.
March 5th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
Well I’m glad you guys are all smiles in your shiny new office building. It certainly appears that you are all very proud of your new monetary excesses. Meanwhile I’m trying to get a refund, and I can’t even contact the Customer Retention Department. Absolutely ridiculous.
March 6th, 2008 at 12:05 am
please… i am new to dreamhost don’t make me regret this!
i don’t care about what happens if you drop your servers for a month, because i have not started doing business with this server….
but i am afraid of doing so..
because my customers will turn up to me and start shouting!
unless this situation is changed i will have to ask for a refund…
and move away from dreaamhost
March 6th, 2008 at 12:22 am
Hy DreamHost members! All services is frozen… how many times for wait resolve this? I waiting more than 52hours for fixed it…. Good Luck!
March 6th, 2008 at 3:01 am
Do you guys at least know how long this backup will take? What’s the update on the trouble ticket? It’s been over 2 days now.
March 6th, 2008 at 6:08 am
Site on Kyrie still incredibly slow. If this isn’t fixed soon I’m canceling and will go out of my way to ensure that as many people as possible avoid Dreamhost.
March 6th, 2008 at 6:37 am
Seriously guys…what’s the deal here? A little update would do wonders. Time frame?
March 6th, 2008 at 6:48 am
Seriously? Almost 60 hours of down time with no update? Are they trying to lose customers?
March 6th, 2008 at 7:48 am
WTF Come on, 3 damm days, i run a shop on your hosting service, this is ridiculous
March 6th, 2008 at 7:51 am
I’m moving to LiquidWeb - It is ridiculous how Dreamhost treats if customers!
March 6th, 2008 at 8:08 am
I’m willing to be patient, but I am definitely not happy about this. If it goes on much longer, I’d hope we’d be offered some sort of compensation, such as a free month of service or more storage space.
–JFCC
March 6th, 2008 at 8:21 am
They’ve reported this being an issue for 3 days… and it’s only MEDIUM severity? For the number of web servers that are affected by this file server cluster, this is far from a MEDIUM severity issue.
March 6th, 2008 at 8:38 am
HIGH SEVERITY!!!! THREE DAYS NO WEBSITE. HIGH SEVERITY!!!! HIGH SEVERITY!!!! HIGH SEVERITY!!!! HIGH SEVERITY!!!! HIGH SEVERITY!!!! HIGH SEVERITY!!!!
March 6th, 2008 at 8:49 am
my mail server is down thanks to this issue. is there any way to retrieve my email through ANY other means? i’m thinking not given the email is hosted on the system that is down, but if there are any backdoor hacks i would greatly appreciate it…
March 6th, 2008 at 8:54 am
omg, what we need to make? remove all domains and install in another server? or all servers is slow too? or cancel work and go to another webhost? I understand its hard solution, but, I need make work for my clients, ….. just, give another solution temporaly…..
March 6th, 2008 at 9:05 am
Man oh man… i was supposed to present web project to big client today. Guess i better get started transferring the domain elsewhere.
March 6th, 2008 at 9:15 am
Well,
Low severity is something that affects only one server. Medium is a cluster (like this is) and High is something that affects the entire system.
That said, 3 days and you can figure out what’s spiking I/O processes?
March 6th, 2008 at 9:27 am
Is this issue also affecting FTP? I get an instant fail whenever I try to log in.
March 6th, 2008 at 9:30 am
This is a little ridiculous, I have recommended your service to a colleague and I look like an ass…
March 6th, 2008 at 9:30 am
I work for a webhost, and out of curiosity I paid the 120/year for this account to see how ‘other people do it’. I have to say, A) thank god there’s nothing on this account of any importance, and B) if I took 3 days to figure out what process was running away, my head would be on a platter
Fix it already.
March 6th, 2008 at 9:31 am
Affecting ftp? Of course. All. When your server load reachs more than 100, nothing can’t happen.
It’s surprising that there’s no update on this issue.
March 6th, 2008 at 9:31 am
I just want to know when this thing will be fixed? I signed up with DH couple weeks ago and I’m at the point where I need to launch a company! If you guys can’t fix this problem by Friday, I’m canceling the account and moving on. Anyone know any good hosting company?
March 6th, 2008 at 9:31 am
I am a new customer and already regretting it. I wanted to do teh right thing and get a green host, but you know what my blood pressure is more important. FIX THE PRO
March 6th, 2008 at 9:32 am
Heh… I guess this explains why top is reporting a load average of about 150 right now (it was at 300 earlier today)…
March 6th, 2008 at 9:35 am
I’m on fox. The server restarted before I reached 200
60-70 now
I’ve just submitted a ticket to see what will happens…
March 6th, 2008 at 9:51 am
The lack of updates is what worries me. That smacks of FUBAR.
March 6th, 2008 at 9:55 am
In all fairness, I know what it’s like to have to deal with these issues, that being said, it’s no excuse why it’s been several days and no resolution. Ganon, as I said before, I work for a host, but I think it would be unprofessional and inappropriate for me to take business from DH, as well as we charge a whole lot more than 120/year for hosting, for obvious reasons
The only reason I even remotely care if this account is up or down is I have moved my kids’ football site to it, and now I’m getting phone calls asking why our site is ‘down’. If they don’t resolve the issue soon, I’ll have to move it back to my server in the LA DC.
In DH defense, they have a really nice ‘panel’, and it looks like they have their stuff together when it comes to overall, but the slow/lack of problem resolution kills that. It doesn’t matter how badass your system is, if its DOWN
My 2 cents
March 6th, 2008 at 10:36 am
has anyone gotten a respone yet? i submitted a request for help about 7 hours ago and have yet to hear back. any updates?
March 6th, 2008 at 10:38 am
Sure would be good of DH to at least post some kind of “update: we’re working on it blah blah”, instead of having it look like they are not doing anything at all…
March 6th, 2008 at 11:24 am
Really disappointed. I switched to DH two days ago after several people recommended them to me and now all of my pages are taking more than a few seconds to load. All I’ve got are a few really simple PHP scripts generating the pages. Each page used to take less than a second to load on my old host! I don’t think I’m the only one that would really appreciate some kind of update on this issue.
March 6th, 2008 at 11:52 am
Site is down down down, has been all morning…. “Cannot establish connection with server” On Scorpion and Blingy.. Yikes. Site was acting peculiarly yesterday, timing out unaccountably given this report guess I was lucky to even have been able to access. Hope DreamHost posts some kind of bulletin soon. Communication is a good thing
March 6th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
DREAMHOST: Please read:
I have a suggestion. Can you please provide us with a date where you are 98% certain this will be fixed by. We can work with that. I can know when to launch. Obviously your clients are not happy at this time… and are probably saying nasty things about the service… because…. you are keeping them in the dark… both metaphorically and figuratively
Just communicate with us…. where you are at? Please. If its like March 15, I can work with that. Just keep us all in the loop. The last thing I want to do is move to another hosting… esp after the rave review of your service.
Sincerely, …Vern
March 6th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
I’ve been with Dreamhost for around 3 years now and have a total of 3 sites hosted with them, including my personal site.
In addition, I’m launching an online news magazine in two days (hosted on the kyrie server) and I can barely log into WordPress to change settings and configure - everything takes either a few minutes to load or, more likely, doesn’t connect at all.
Almost three days since this has been reported, it hasn’t been updated, let alone resolved. This is not only absurd, but it is also completely unacceptable. Dreamhost, the very least you can do is give your loyal customers an update on the status of this situation.
March 6th, 2008 at 1:15 pm
democracy at work I suppose… the DHost blog is now down because “server is not responding”.. I went there to perhaps see if there might be a peep related to what doesn’t seem like a “moderate” outage. As a new customer, it’s a bit disconcerting the complete lack of any communication and I am mindful of the quixotic challenges of running a server farm.
March 6th, 2008 at 1:34 pm
I contacted support a couple of days ago about my site not loading (On Kyrie) the reply was:
Yet again, network problems with your filer (titanic) are the problem.
Please trust me when I say this is _almost_ as frustrating for us as a
hosting company as it is for you as our customer. Our Admin team has been
working on this probloem for over a month and is currently working with
the hardware manufacturer to get to the bottom of this. While I wish I
had further details, there just aren’t any at the moment. Our Network
Admin is currently on the case and will do all he can to maximize uptime
despite the circumstances.
Thanks again for being patient. We greatly appreciate your continued
patronage and faith in our service. Things will get better!
March 6th, 2008 at 1:37 pm
Hmmm… I don’t know about anyone else, but my site seems to be blazing fast now. Anyone?
http://www.mikesoares.com/
March 6th, 2008 at 1:44 pm
just came back up. On scorpion and blingy.. site back in action… and yes it’s faster now than it has been for the last few days.
March 6th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
When this will be resolved…. my site is dying… so slowwwwwww… F*&^ !!!!!!!!!
March 6th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
Try it again. My site on yoshi is dragging ass as usual. Sometimes it responds quickly, lots of times it’s bogged down unacceptably. Still no updates and it’s been days. I just don’t know what to think.
March 6th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
I am hoping that this gets resolved soon…I have some unhappy people coming after me now.
March 6th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
Joe:
“working on this probloem for over a month”
Can’t it (Titanic) just be replaced… and whatever it was that was pretending to do the job before it… be drop kicked back to whatever hell is originated from?
March 6th, 2008 at 3:13 pm
Just got here a week ago, and my company was without email throughout the day.. I look like an a$$ now because we never had outages with our last provider.
Boo..
I’ll give it a few more days, but if things stay like this I’ll dispute the charge on my credit card and avoid and drop these guys with the quickness.
March 6th, 2008 at 4:09 pm
Hahahaha. I’ve never seen load above 100 before till this morning. 220.06 FTW.
March 6th, 2008 at 4:26 pm
Forbidden
You don’t have permission to access / on this server.
Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
March 6th, 2008 at 5:23 pm
I think what is bothering me more than anything else is the lack of communication.
March 6th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
I’m on Toadstool, FTP is painfully slow and won’t complete some transfers… shell is also slow too.
March 6th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
The bowser server went down a few hours ago, it has no access to the file server.
March 6th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
OMG! Why is it so slow! I cant access my mail and site is not loading fast!
March 7th, 2008 at 3:27 am
It would be great to get an update. 3 + days is a long time to wait. Please provide update.
March 7th, 2008 at 3:42 am
An update at this stage would be lovely. I’m not going to bitch to no end (like some people have), as I’m more than happy with how issues are communicated to us by Dreamhost.
Those who are threatening to move: Look up Fuitadnet. Then think about how much of a better situation you are in with Dreamhost. Thank you.
March 7th, 2008 at 8:15 am
I’m on KYRIE and I filed a ticket yesterday evening and received a reply this morning (local time) that explained what was going on, that Dreamhost was working on it and a direction to this ‘issue_note’.
Been in the IT business for a while, working with networking and project management. I think it’s decent responstime (in my case),
Especially considering paying 5-9 bucks/month. I wouldn’t expect so much services for that bargin price. And I think a small compensation for these unplanned outages, is the feature rich setup I have access to, here at DH.
If I would to look for a 99,999% 24/7 Guranteed uptime hosting partner, I probably would have to pay the same price my own business clients are paying for colocation/managed services. Which is considerably more.. much more.
March 7th, 2008 at 8:49 am
Robert, you are correct, we charge our clients a considerable amount more per month, however, most of them have my cell phone number, and can reach me 24/7 in the event of an outage or issue. We also have a staff at the office, where they can call during business hours and speak to someone. We don’t charge for that like DH does, but again, we don’t charge 5 bux a month, some of our clients pay close to 2k a month between bandwidth, hardware and support. If they were paying 5/month they would get exactly what DH offers. In hosting, much like in most areas of life, you get what you pay for.
Although at least some kind of ‘we are working on it, it is x y and z thats causing the issue, etc, from DH would be nice, at least some of us would know what you are talking about, we might even be able to lend a hand
-Allan
March 7th, 2008 at 8:53 am
I had a little (total) downtime yesterday, but it was for only few hours. Now it’s back up and running (shinobi) so i’m pretty happy with the dreamhost service, remember that ALL providers has problems sometimes!
March 7th, 2008 at 10:46 am
I’m trying to delete a folder on my server, but no matter how many times i clear my cache, or reboot it will not delete, nor can i upload files without the trasnsfer screwing up. is this related to this issue?
Thanks
Sam
March 7th, 2008 at 11:01 am
@Vern Baker
I’m not sure what they are doing, if it was me, I would just replace it with new hardware, seems to solve the issues most of the time. Who knows though. I am starting to get concerned if DreamHost will be my long term hosting provider if this continues to keep up.
March 7th, 2008 at 11:23 am
We’re getting “Error (0×800CCC0F) : ‘The connection to the server was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP). The server responded: 421 blingymail-a2.g.dreamhost.com Error: too many errors’” when we try to send email.
Is this related?
March 7th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
thanks, DH, for blocking me from my OWN site… thank you…
March 7th, 2008 at 2:38 pm
I was wondering what the heck was going on! I’m on kirby, so I wasn’t sure if it was related to the LAX datacenter network switch issue (which is still not resolved apparently) or something new. Now it looks like there is another problem affecting my server and others.
Fortunately, my puny sites on Dreamhost are only for hobby purposes and volunteer organizations that I’m working with. And they haven’t really been getting a lot of traffic. But by the performance, you’d think they were getting hit by millions of users in a “slashdot effect” or something. I wasn’t able to login to shell to look at the loads, but geez, 150-300? That’s just way high.
I have another site that is hosted on MidPhase. They used to be kind of sucky (slow performance, hours of downtime, etc.) last summer. But now that Midphase site snaps and pops, and is very rarely down. A few weeks ago, I started monitoring my MidPhase, Dreamhost, and Westhost sites with the free monitoring and graphing from BasicState.Com. So far, Dreamhost is pulling up the rear. In fact, my home DMZ server connected via Verizon DSL has shown better reliability and consistency.
Perhaps we’re packing too many sites onto the hardware and need to thin them out a bit? I’m sure it’s a super tough job keeping this all running, but there are other hosts that appear to be handling it.
If it wasn’t for the HUGE feature set and HUGE storage space/bandwidth that Dreamhost offers for the relatively low price, it would be tempting to ditch. And yes, it’s nice that Dreamhost tells us what’s going on. If they can just get the reliability and performance back, it would be a perfect world.
Hang in there, guys.
March 7th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
im on murcielago server and all my sites and ftp are down. cries
March 7th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
I cant FTP into my site, I cant load my site and I cant login to the admin panel. This is beyond ridiculous. I have been having issues with DH since I got setup maybe a month ago or so. I love the responses, but it would be nice if you all would just fix the issue. I really dont understand how I cant even get to my site now. I would hope that there will be some compensation issued for this level of downtime. Completely unacceptable.
March 8th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
Wow I can’t even submit a support ticket because the webpanel just stops execution on the second step. So on top of having no access to my account because ITS SO SLOW… I CANT EVEN CONTACT SUPPORT. I know this is shared hosting but come on I don’t pay you to be a shitty service. You do provide a service that I pay for however the service I’m paying for is non-existent. Great thanks I threw away my money, I truly appreciate it.
On top of all this, you are relying on your hardware vendor to get back to you, or at least thats all you have told us. Great. So we depend on someone else to do your job while you probably sit around and check email and play D&D. SWEET. I HOPE YOUR LEVEL 50 PALADIN IS SWIMMINGLY ZAWZOME.
March 9th, 2008 at 11:42 am
I can cope with a bit of slowness (my sites aren’t massive) but not having a solution for an entire week? According to this site there are no other issues currently, so get all your people trying to fix this problem and get it fixed quickly!!!
March 9th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
still no updates? nothing new? hello?!!??!?! Almost 6 days now and the problem is still not resolved. On top of that, almost 6 days with no updates, apologies, or anything. Awesome.
March 10th, 2008 at 2:06 am
fox’s load skyrocketted to 100-200 in 2 days, but now the problem has stopped, I surf well now.
Don’t know for others.
March 10th, 2008 at 9:16 am
I’m not even upset any more. I just don’t care.
March 10th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
wy no resolve it?
wy no fix this?
March 11th, 2008 at 4:48 pm
DreamHost: The you providing us with your plan. We have re-adjusted our schedule for Thursday morning understanding that there may be some other issues.
Had you indicated that a plan was in the works, and was to be unveiled at a certain time, that would have abated the uncertainty. The concern was that …. Dreamhost was no longer concerned about supporting their servers because the business was in jeopardy, or something along those lines.
At any rate… thank you.
March 12th, 2008 at 7:38 pm
And so these issues continue, and continue, and continue…this is ridiculous.
March 12th, 2008 at 8:10 pm
When will this be fixed? My site and everything has been running like shit for the past two weeks!
March 12th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
Since Blingy is having problems, could I be moved to a new file server so I can continue to have a reliable website?
March 12th, 2008 at 9:32 pm
it has been to long!!
March 12th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
This is so fucking annoying!
My server is up and down.. and still no resolution until today.
Dreamhost is SUCKS!!! I’m stuckkkkk…. already paid 1 year…

Guys, just let them deal with the problem. Obviously they know about it or they wouldn’t have posted on the status page. They’re probably under enough stress as is trying to fix the issue. With all the nagging and wining going on here, it just adds to it. You won’t die if your site goes down and only an idiot assumes that it is possible for a host to be bulletproof and never go down. As a poster already said, at least they have the decency to inform us that their is an issue.

Been a customer for two weeks here. Very disappointed, the performance is unpredictable. It gets a little better then its bad again. Hope this is fixed real soon.
March 13th, 2008 at 6:22 am
So this wasnt fixed by the upgrades??
March 13th, 2008 at 8:44 am
What’s the word DreamHost? Are we good for a launch today?
March 13th, 2008 at 9:25 am
I’ve just got to say that I was ok with a site that was a little pokey sometimes (this is shared hosting after all) but the performance as been good sometimes but the last couple of weeks it’s been consistently bad, bad, bad. Between this (with all of my “clients” — its a volunteer organization complaining about a slow website) and the 100 email per hour limit (I have a legitimate list of 300+ volunteers, not exactly Weight Loss Spam numbers there) I think Dreamhost and I will be parting ways at the end of my contract.
March 14th, 2008 at 5:48 am
I suggest you should stop to pretend that you are a serious hosting company. Close your business and start something less complicated like car wash or a donat booth.
March 14th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
Dreamhost: one quick update a day would make things so much more pleasant. I guess we are going ahead and hoping for the best.
March 15th, 2008 at 5:50 am
How odd, I’m on boo and everything seems OK. Maybe someone’s forgotten to update this site?

seems the problem is back, cant connect to my site hosted on link… frustration doesnt even begin to cover this, thankfully im not running anything imporant on here…but that doesnt mean im not upset that uit’s like its being hosted on a 386dx40 with win95 and iis3 ;P
common certainly a cron job to reboot the machine every 6 hours shouldnt be that hard(sionce reboots seem to the the ONLY way this clears itself up)
oh and PS if yer gonna have a rss feed or a status site, it’s generally a good idea to GIVE STATUS REPORTS DAILY
everything else makes it look like you’re sitting on yer thumbs.
March 16th, 2008 at 3:11 am
THE PROBLEM ISN’T BACK ONLY, IT’S FRUSTRATING because my sites at luigi are nearly not running, using wordpress is horrible and ftp access is broken also again… When the problem will be fixed finally? It’s still existing since 13 day now!!!
March 16th, 2008 at 5:42 am
And the problem’s…. BACK! How exciting, I never know if I’m going to be able to use http://FTP. Sometimes it’s lightning fast, then it just stops in the middle of a piddly file and takes about 5 mins to upload the rest of the transfers. This is starting to drive me up the wall!!

wow the worse server I have ever been on.. Ive been with go daddy and starlogic and maybe experienced being down once a year for just a couple hours, but once every day? I have got to cancel my shit, my life depends upon something that needs to be better than being down every day.
March 16th, 2008 at 9:32 pm
Ive been with dreamhost a month now, I have experienced more DOWNTIME than uptime for this entire month, and unfortunately this is NOT an exaggeration. My website is a business site, so this is a very serious issue.
March 16th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
blingy has run out of space completely.
some output from the df cmd in shell.

looks like they are trying to free up some space on the filer, there’s now 24GB of free space.
March 17th, 2008 at 12:57 am
Got this from support today:
They’ve been sort of ongoing issues, but they are with the filer, and
being the central storage for the entire cluster, it’s somewhat delicate
work. We are working hard to get everything sorted out, but we have to
get to the bottom of whatever’s causing Titanic (the blingy filer) to act
up. There’s no ETA, but we’re trying to deal with the issues as they
come up in the mean time.
March 17th, 2008 at 2:00 am
These issues are making me look like a total ass. Thank you Dreamhost!
March 17th, 2008 at 2:01 am
Oh, and anyone on these servers who’ve signed up for a year should totally be let out of that contract. I’ll be shopping for a new provider the moment I can move my stuff.
March 17th, 2008 at 3:41 am
Marc. If you want to complain, submit a support ticket. A polite complaint in the right direction does a lot more than an angry comment to a status posting. Do you really think Dreamhost’s support staff read these comments on a regular basis?
March 17th, 2008 at 11:06 am
They should. They seriously… really … should.
Why?
Because their next customers are looking at this site and thinking…. “step away… step away.”
March 17th, 2008 at 11:09 am
On another note. I’m feeling exceptionally lucky today…. no idea why. I have no doubt in my mind that this issue will be resolved today.
March 17th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
everything is down AGAIN. stuff was up for like an hour, moving at a snails pace, now EVERYTHING IS COMPLETELY DOWN AGAIN. WHY WHY WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
March 17th, 2008 at 4:17 pm
it just makes you want to tear your hair out, my sites have been down lately about 80 percent of the time. This is unbelievable. WHEN IS THIS BEING RESOLVED. Why cant everyone be moved to servers that actually WORK. How is this right?
March 17th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
This has been going on for weeks, can we have a ETA please?
March 18th, 2008 at 2:27 am
My site is down, and may be broken thanks to you stupid motherfuckers!
March 19th, 2008 at 11:42 pm
Looks like Spyro went kaput. It’s completely unresponsive right now.
March 20th, 2008 at 12:19 am
not working at all, please fix it…

Is this related??? does it mean this problem is finally over??
March 20th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
Is this thing ever gonna be fixed? Im in the middle of picking another host! If they don’t fix it soon, I will change it.
March 22nd, 2008 at 9:43 pm
I suggest while they’re at it they should rename this “titanic” machine. It’s sort of a little bit of an unfortunate name
Other no-noes would be “wtc”, “hiroshima”, “columbia”, “challenger” , “stalingrad”, “windows_95″ etc …
March 23rd, 2008 at 11:06 pm
Our site has been up and down. Sucking around for weeks!!!! We have never expeirenced such kind of hosting in our life except this time!!!! This is absolutely sucking nightmare hosting!!!! Need a refund and shout to everybody never ever use dream host.

A clients website ins on the “jak” cluster, server or whatever. It`a ridiculously slow and this problem seems even worth during U.S. night time. I am bases in Japan, but 30sec. or more (or even a time-out) is not acceptable for my clients. Please-please fix this immediately or I am forced to changes web hosting!
March 24th, 2008 at 4:20 am
My site is down. Again. Worst hosting _ever_.
March 24th, 2008 at 7:26 am
3 hours of downtime and counting. No response from any tickets from Dreamhost…

Sheesh! They’ve only just fixed one problem on the blingy cluster and an even worse one comes up! I just hope this one doesn’t last for a couple of weeks +.

this sucks dick. My site traffic is crawling because no one wants to wait 5 minutes for a page to load. I should have listened to Chad Johnson and that damn GoDaddy commercial apparently…
This host is gayer than 8 guys fucking 9 guys. I only wish my contract would end sooner than it will…
