Looks as though my sites are back up, but I’m not holding my breath as i know it may be short-lived. Good Job guys for staying on top of things!
March 18th, 2008 at 3:29 am
how do broken apache configurations make it into the ‘live’/production environment though?
March 18th, 2008 at 3:40 am

My SSH just died and it looks like my websites are down also. Dagnabbit!
March 18th, 2008 at 4:14 am
This is the first time my site’s ever been down. Never been affected by dreamhost outages before (touch wood). Hopefully this is over soon. Just wanted to update the site! Brilliant timing
March 18th, 2008 at 5:09 am
My main site is up, but my sub-domain is down.
March 18th, 2008 at 5:38 am

March 18th, 2008 at 7:21 am
Bummer. I finally get time to post a whole bunch of updates and my site is down
March 18th, 2008 at 7:24 am
@Why- Yep, did last night. And still, 8 hours later, haven’t gotten a response from them.
March 18th, 2008 at 8:29 am
Dreamhost…. can’t live with them, can’t live without them… they are the only ones that offer the features that I need… but they are the most unreliable server I have ever head. This sucks.
March 18th, 2008 at 8:30 am
P.S. Do they even host their own website? IT never goes down.
March 18th, 2008 at 8:32 am
UGHHHHHHHH…..
My site is soooo slow, and in and out of service. This is happening way too frequently. WTF dreamhost? Seems like my site slows down, or gets dropped at least once a month.
March 18th, 2008 at 8:37 am
Sites down, SQL down, webmail down
aggghhh poooo just when i really need them as well
March 18th, 2008 at 8:43 am

Not sure how they can mark this as resolved by sites are still nailed
March 18th, 2008 at 8:50 am
This is not resolved!
March 18th, 2008 at 8:55 am
Definitely NOT resolved.
March 18th, 2008 at 8:59 am
**sigh** - definitely not resolved.
2008 has not been a good year for DH so far. I am a patient man but with unplanned outages almost every week and a huge scheduled downtime this weekend its gone well beyond a minor inconvenience.
March 18th, 2008 at 9:00 am
main domain up, hosted domain down
March 18th, 2008 at 9:23 am
I’m back up… buy more duck tape
March 18th, 2008 at 9:23 am
I have to agree with highlander, only been with Dh for 4 months on a trail but might be thinking of moving away. I don’t need high availability but do need some stability. For the port to be marked as fixed is a little bit of a joke.
March 18th, 2008 at 9:41 am
my site is now down
March 18th, 2008 at 9:51 am

My sites down, starting at roughly 10 a.m. pst or so. Not sure if related. Did other people get a “error establishing database connection” error?
March 18th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
I’ve been with Dreamhost for almost a year now, and must say that I am *mostly* satisfied with their services. For the money you can’t get better. HOWEVER, I hate to agree that unscheduled downtime is TERRIBLY high when compared to like services you can find out there.
Lastly, the “billing error” really rubbed me the wrong way! I understand that no system is perfect, the people running Dreamhost are human and frankly, SHIT HAPPENS, but accidentally billing your customers to the tune of $7.5 MILLION is just inexcusable. I’m NOT automatically rebilled, so my sites were TOTALLY OFFLINE (suspended!) for over 24-hours! What did I get for this day+ of downtime? A “generalized” apology and like $1 of credit! I’ll give ‘em an “E” for effort, but I can’t say that I was impressed with “sorry”. (Nor were many of MY USERS!)
In closing, other then FREQUENT unscheduled downtime, I’m really am quite pleased with Dreamhost. The people I’ve dealty with are VERY PLEASANT and VERY WELL educated in their field — IMHO anyway… the services offered plentiful and the price very competitive. Frankly, though, I’ll bet that 80%+ of people that leave DH do so because of issues of unavailability of the services they are PAYING FOR. So thanks, DH for what you do right and for being such decent human beings, but PLEASE try to keep our downtime in check a little better!

Just submitted my resume and portfolio to a prospective employer. Portions of this application included my website on Dreamhost. Needless to say, I am EXTREMELY upset, especially if this has a negative impact on my employment. This issue HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. Dreamhost has been fine for me for doing hobbyist websites, but now that I am stepping up into professional work, I may have to reconsider.
March 18th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
Thanks for fixing this so quickly. You guys are awesome.
March 18th, 2008 at 5:02 pm
All my sites are either NOT loading or going really sloooooooooow sent in a ticket but not heard anything back yet.. anyone else sites slow or down?
March 18th, 2008 at 5:26 pm
i got an error “Error establishing a database connection”
March 18th, 2008 at 6:13 pm
The one time I need to do some work on a couple of domain names and I can’t.. this was a wasted day for me!
March 18th, 2008 at 6:29 pm
Deb and Josh - I have been emailing support and filing claims since Friday - and still have not gotten a response on slowness/DB issues.
March 18th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
I just got a response.. same one I got last week… on the same problem! Ever since I changed my plan from the 19.95 a month to their NEW only plan for 10.00 a month and paid for 1 year. My site has been slooooooooooooooow or down! I guess I should have just staied with my old plan cause I did not have any problems until I changed it!
————————————————–
I went ahead and took a look at your site, and I didn’t have any problem
with it being slow at all. Are you still having this problem? If so, can
you run a trace route to your site and send it to me? That way we can
find out where the delay is in you accessing your site
————————————————-
When I sent in my ticket this morning I did do a traceroute and did send the link in with the ticket for them to see it is NOT on my end! But I guess they did not read my FULL email this morning. Now I just got another email from them telling me that it is going to take another 24 hours to reply to my reply to them!
Something that would have only taking me 1 hour to do today.. has taking me all damn day and I am still trying to work on it.
I upload 3 files, then I get folder error or server error and have to close my ftp program down then start it up again for 3 more files! then all over again.
March 18th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
Me too Deb, me too. I just sent them support ticket # 6 on day #6 of having this same issue. Today they actually emailed me back and said “it’s your FTP program”. Um, no, it’s not - it works fine on all 11 other websites I access on different hosts.
Tomorrow I am sending all these letters I have written to them with no response directly to the CEO, the BBB, and the California Secretary of State. I pay way more for a VPS than their $7.95 plan and I am tired of being ignored.
As for the “pro-DH” trolls who come here to defend them - I have been a long-time DH customer and this is the first time they have completely ignored support requests…especially 6 days of them.
March 18th, 2008 at 10:48 pm
I have also been with Dreamhost for 3 years and I have NEVER complained before this. I am just trying to get some work done and I have spent all day doing something that should have only taken me 1 hour to do..
I also.. went over to my “other host” that I have for my business site and my clients sites and I just downloaded “my whole site” with the same FTP program that I have been trying to upload to dreamhost all day. And had NO problem with my connection nor my ftp program and I was able to download the whole site without it disconnecting me 50 million times.
So it is NOT my connection, nor my FTP program. I need to get this stuff done!
I just sent off another ticket with my ping and trace route… going to wait ANOTHER 24 HOURS for them to reply back to me and still NOT being able to get anything done!
March 18th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
Don’t hold your breath…I have been waiting since Thursday night.
March 18th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
I going to bed.. I can’t do anything about it tonight.
You have a good night David.
March 18th, 2008 at 11:37 pm
P.S… just had to post this.. just tried to get on myspace and OMG.. it is coming up allot faster that my ftp! And that is a BIG OMG cause myspace never comes up for me fast.. LOL
Good Night all…

April 3rd, 2008 at 2:23 am
My site is down at least 2 to 3 times a day. Dreamhost has been a Nightmarehost. The outages and slow loading times are ridiculous. This is sad because I’m a new domain owner and Dreamhost/Nightmarehost is my first host. You’ve left a lasting bad impression. Your apologies are not enough, fix this.
