Problem with central services (panel, webmail, etc..) and spunky cluster
We are currently experiencing problems with one of our internal firewall machines that is causing problems with our central services connecting to our customer database. This problem is expected to be fixed within 20 minutes, we apologize for the trouble and will update this post as soon as it is resolved or more information becomes available as to the cause.
UPDATE 2:40 PM PDT **
Problems with central services have been resolved. Panel , webmail and other central services should be working as usual. There are still a few problems with the spunky clusters that may be causing outages for customers websites/ftp. These problems are also being fixed at this time and this post will be updated when those are fixed.
UPDATE 4:39 PM PDT **
All of the networking problems and spunky cluster problems have been resolved. We apologize again for the outage and if you are still having trouble feel free to contact support with the service you are having problems with.
UPDATE 5:11 PM PDT **
There have been reports of problems with the spunky cluster , we will re-open this status post until we have more information to what caused this problem. If you are on the spunky cluster and are experiencing downtime it is still due to the networking issue.

March 26th, 2008 at 8:14 am
i can’t believe it, 2 days and the server doesn’t work.
please do something
March 26th, 2008 at 8:17 am
Not only am I having issues with this, but other things specific to me as well. They are spending so much time NOT fixing this, that it has been 30 hours since I’ve sent two very urgent support tickets. I’m losing at least one of my clients because of this.

March 26th, 2008 at 8:25 am
I just signed up here because of the great customer reviews. FTP doesn’t work.
March 26th, 2008 at 8:32 am
My email seems to be completely effed up. Is this part of the ongoing issues?
March 26th, 2008 at 8:49 am
Wow,
Dream Host has lost one of my databases for a client that is already very very touchy. I’m now spending my holiday trying to rebuild his web site. I deleted all my files for that site and it’s still there, even after I manually uploaded a new version of wordpress.
Obviously bored I registered http://www.ihatethisdreamhost.com and set up a blog using thier one click install. Ironically it’s the only part of my dreamhost account that actually works.
I’ve now moved to media temple and I suggest that every one else does it.
March 26th, 2008 at 8:49 am
I have a photo gallery, and each photo is taking about 1 min to load. This is way too slow for me. Can anyone advise me a better web hosting company ? I can pay up to 30-40 $ per month for a reliable host.
March 26th, 2008 at 8:51 am
I am currently switching to Hosteap… man this is getting unbearable, my clients have been complaining for weeks now!
Bye… I hope you solve this quickly so I can move my domains elsewhere.
By the way… check Hosteap out… this is my referral URL, use it if you want.. http://nuurl.us/3e8e9
Else, no problem!
March 26th, 2008 at 9:14 am
http://www.geekfreak.co.uk my website was down… html pages load… but wordpress is dog slow! hope you guys can fix an otherwise flawless service.
March 26th, 2008 at 9:19 am
Ha, I switched from Media Temple to Dreamhost because they were always down. Fortunately I’m on a good server that rarely has any downtime. I’m not going anywhere.
March 26th, 2008 at 9:20 am
How glad am I that I use Gmail for all my email so that doesn’t rely on whether my site is up or not? Damn downtime.
March 26th, 2008 at 9:21 am
This is really beyond ridiculous.. my site has been almost worthless on and off since the move and I can’t get any support out of Dreamhost.
March 26th, 2008 at 9:50 am
HEY we’re coming back!
March 26th, 2008 at 10:03 am
Yesterday slow email and slow website - today NO EMAIL and NO WEBSITE. The problem seems to be getting worse … I’m a few hours from abandoning ship . . .
March 26th, 2008 at 10:04 am
Why is the severity just medium? This is serious! I don’t care if you take the servers completely down to speed the process, they are already worthless as it is.
March 26th, 2008 at 10:06 am
I will cancel my account! I can’t belive that Dreamhost is nightmare
March 26th, 2008 at 10:08 am
I’m not a very good business man and I’m scrapping to get by with finances so that’s why I chose Dreamhost. I was wondering why equipment doesn’t run like it’s new and I was wondering if cost cutting had anything to do with it. Check out this link and see if you can guess where I’m going with this:

March 26th, 2008 at 10:12 am
I HAVE TO WORK! WHAT SHOULD I DO! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
March 26th, 2008 at 10:13 am
Is there another way to access my webmail? I need to work, it’s causing problems, prefessional problems.
March 26th, 2008 at 10:13 am
I need my site up, but I still don’t even get a response to how long the site will be down!
March 26th, 2008 at 10:14 am
Keep scrolling down to check out the stretched Hummer for their party, the views from thier high rise office, and a few other high dollar items that don’t seem to be helping their servers function better. I just want to know that my money is going to the service that it was intended to pay for and not just going to a companies beer fund.
http://blog.dreamhost.com/2007/12/21/were-so-high-right-now-you-dont-even-know/
Yes, this is an official post by Dreamhost and they are pretty proud of the new office, company financial situation, and their company parties. Not so proud of the they offer right now though.
March 26th, 2008 at 10:16 am
my site is tooooooooooooooo sloooooooooooow…
March 26th, 2008 at 10:26 am
My 4 sites is down. Do something please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
March 26th, 2008 at 10:28 am
Sites keep go down in a certain period of time (the same certain period of time everyday), after the move of Spunky and central services
what’s going on
NO downtime before the move….please get it fixed ASAP
March 26th, 2008 at 10:36 am
……………… and then down.
March 26th, 2008 at 10:48 am
I can’t believe they are STILL down.
March 26th, 2008 at 10:50 am
2 general outages in 4 days? This is not cool.
If I wasn’t getting this service for free I would be outta here. Dreamhost-hosting is not cheap either even taking into account the pound’s strength against the dollar.
March 26th, 2008 at 10:51 am
You are killing me Dreamhost. Really.
March 26th, 2008 at 10:51 am
FUCKERS,
GO WORK AT A GROCERY STORE FILLING UP BAGS.
YOU ARE A JOKE!!!!
WE NEED OUR SHIT UP AND RUNNING,
IDIOTS!!!
March 26th, 2008 at 10:55 am
Are we there yet?
March 26th, 2008 at 11:08 am
Down for several hours here, this really sucks !!
March 26th, 2008 at 11:21 am
This is getting ridiculous now, you must be losing a lot of customers these days
My hosting is up for renewal in May, if things continue like this I am outta here…but I have high hopes you will get things back on track.
March 26th, 2008 at 11:21 am
my support question got moved to the severe problem queue, I wonder if that means it will actually be fixed today
March 26th, 2008 at 11:23 am
is there dreamhost? What are you talking about? My site is still down
March 26th, 2008 at 11:27 am
So I haven’t had email for two days. This is California dreaming.
March 26th, 2008 at 11:30 am
Is DreamHost going to give us a refund for this?
March 26th, 2008 at 11:35 am
Do we have a timeline for fixing this or what?
March 26th, 2008 at 11:35 am
My FTP is still not working and my site is stupid slow. Thanks DreamHost for two days of crap. Why don’t we get refunds of the days that our sites are down since this happens 2-3 times a month lately? I’m glad I don’t see any 99% uptime claims on Dreamhost’s website as I actually measured their real uptime for a month and got a reading of around 95%. You may say, “95% is good enough” but not when that 5% represents about 15-20 hours of downtime in the middle of the day or afternoon when you really need to get to your website!
Dreamhost needs to get their act together and fast, their reliability is their biggest down side at this point. I’d rather pay a little bit more and have better uptime than more space or bandwidth etc that we can’t even use since the site doesn’t stay up consistently enough!
March 26th, 2008 at 11:36 am
Hi, email is down again. I have to print a very important document from the email.
Can you staff assist with this? This is urgent.
I hope you’ll compensate for this down time. Generally I don’t complain but this is
second day. So, I hope someone will show responsibility..
Otherwise, good service ..
March 26th, 2008 at 11:41 am
Rafa Osuna,, unfortunately for us, or more fortunately for Dreamhost, they do not have an uptime guarantee, so we are not likely to get a refund for the downed time. More expensive services do have such a guarantee which is partly why they are more expensive its sort of like paying for insurance. However if anyone finds a comparable service/price with such a guarantee please let us all know!
Gabo and others, I totally understand your frustration, I have been waiting long periods of time for my emails to even send…sometimes hours…HOWEVER, please try to be a little more respectful of those who are here looking to get information on when our sites will be up. Let’s be adults about this and keep the graffiti (!&%$!) down.
March 26th, 2008 at 11:55 am
I tried going to webpanel but cannot login, it kept returning to same page.
I think this issue should be escelated to HIGHER-PRIORITY.
March 26th, 2008 at 11:56 am
Sorry, my fault…webpanel working ok
March 26th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
I pay for hosting and provide email addresses to several people. My dad and my two brothers are migrating out of dreamhost because it’s been down FOR DAYS. They use their email for work, it’s not right.
Come on, what’s going on!?
March 26th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
Yea, still experience very slow webmail on spunky. Not all messages send.
March 26th, 2008 at 12:07 pm
What is spunky?
Well my 4 sites is up at last!! I just hope they isn’t going down some time soon…
March 26th, 2008 at 12:13 pm
After not being able to get to my email for most of the day today, I’ve decided to start the transition to a new host. It’s been a good few years, but these problems lately have been a real pain.
March 26th, 2008 at 12:24 pm
New customer here, and now this… great first impression… havent been able to see emails all day.
March 26th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
Three days in with no email and, when they do download (for my business partner) they dump 500 old emails into the email client. Joy. My tickets are starting to look like the rantings of a crazy person. I know these things happen but it is the lack of response, the rating of medium, and general lack of updates which are making me so frustrated. My business is being effected dramatically and I can’t see an end in sight.
