Problem with central services (panel, webmail, etc..) and spunky cluster
We are currently experiencing problems with one of our internal firewall machines that is causing problems with our central services connecting to our customer database. This problem is expected to be fixed within 20 minutes, we apologize for the trouble and will update this post as soon as it is resolved or more information becomes available as to the cause.
UPDATE 2:40 PM PDT **

There are still a few problems with the spunky clusters that may be causing outages for customers websites/ftp. These problems are also being fixed at this time and this post will be updated when those are fixed.
UPDATE 4:39 PM PDT **
All of the networking problems and spunky cluster problems have been resolved. We apologize again for the outage and if you are still having trouble feel free to contact support with the service you are having problems with.

With all due respect, if you are LOOSING your customers then it’s your own fault for setting them loose.
Now, for people who are LOSING customers, I would expect them to be angry because you are only supposed to lose things when you snooze, not when your host goes out again.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:13 pm
Dreamhost, your service lately has been terrible. You just lost a customer whose been with you for 6 years.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
Did I miss the woot?
March 25th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
Who hosts dreamhoststatus.com? I’d like to switch over to THAT company (and we ALL know it is another one)
March 25th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
ok I’m getting my car keys. I will bitch-slap the person that recommended me dreamhost 4 weeks ago.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
Why don’t they run the servers on whatever the heck they’re running this “status” site?
March 25th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
“These guys are pathetic. They truely want us to get our rankings screwed up on the search engines.”
Hilarious.
If you’re so worried about SEO, pay for paid placement.
But then, I guess if you had that kind of cash you’d be paying for a better host so… come to think of it, your frustration is understandable.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
Okay DH, my popcorn is gone! Thanks for the entertainment. Loads of fun! You can turn the boxes back on again. =]

*sigh* Folks, nothing is 100%, 100% of the time. My website is nothing more than a glorified homepage, so I’m not losing money if it’s down, but I do use Dreamhost’s mail servers. The reason is that I was CONSTANTLY having problems with the servers from my ISP, BellSouth/ATT - losing mail, deleting mail, having to jump through bloody hoops to get something added to a whitelist. I am more than happy with Dreamhost as I’m sure no one else could possibly be that much superior anyway.

I have to say, I’m not a commenter on these forums, but this is it for me. I’ve thought about leaving from time-to-time, but this is the last straw. No, I don’t lose thousands in business, nor is the world coming to an end. It’s just for those of us who have already spent many hours this week with our websites down, even the Dreamhost rates are too much for this kind of service. I wish I could say it’s the exception to the rule now, but it’s not.
Yes, in general, DH is pretty good about telling you when there’s a problem, but they are horrible about updates. It’s been about an hour since this post went live indicating a 20 minute resolution. There’s been no update or other indication that things should be up. I can sometimes get to the panel login page, but I can’t get into the panel. I was outraged at the billing fiasco, but I thought maybe they would learn something from it and get their entire service together. Boy, was that ever wishful thinking.
At some point there’s a limit, and I know I’ve reached mine. I had 3 years of nearly perfect service, then the last year and a half have just been in the toilet. Not even my help tickets have gotten responses within 24 hours since the beginning of 2008. I suggest that those of you who are really upset should take a minute to calmly figure out where your line in the sand is. Then, when you’ve reached it, just calmly let them know, and move on. I’ve got my new host lined up, now I just need some uptime to get the sites moved.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
dreamhost hosts dreamhoststatus. Its all in the WHOIS.
Its probably like quadruple fail-overed though.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
Not working here, Adam.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
All is not good… I’m still down.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
Surprise surprise, it’s down again. As soon as I find the time to move all my files and get a new host, I’m leaving. I’m fed up with database errors, my sites going down, billing errors, the list goes on and on. Get your shit together dreamshost.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
it’s working!
March 25th, 2008 at 2:18 pm

March 25th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
Still down here. On cheeto.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
Well, I feel sorry for all those paying for paid placements. Must be loosing a lot of money as traffic gets sent to a “DUD” page.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
we need to discovery what is the hosting company that provides hosting services to www.dreamhost.com and www.dreamhoststatus.com this sites NEVER GO DOWN .. INCREDIBLE .. but OUR sites .. ahahaha - EVERY DAY - ONE PROBLEM!

CRAZY HOSTING = DREAMHOST = You Sleep, and Dream with an outage!
March 25th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
Wow. CP is really up
March 25th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
236: “my server load is 25, 40, 109 right now.”
You think that’s bad? Try 920.57, 1004.07, 704.53.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
I wouldn’t mind if those who can neither spell nor code properly left. Seriously. Half the server lag is probably due to them anyhow.
++++++++++[>+++++++>++++++++++>+++>+++.>+.+++++++..+++.>++..+++.——.——–.>+.>.
Maybe that would work.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
For those who wanted to know: dreamhoststatus.com is hosted by servepath.com. At least, that’s how I read the whois info…
March 25th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
Alex, you’re a dweeb. Still down here.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:20 pm
siteground.com is comparable. I left them for DH, but this is just getting annoying.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
hahahahhahaa…at least your undependability is dependable. i’ll be moving asap and suggesting to my clients they make the move as well. wtf happened to you guys? trying to squeeze those profit margins with cheaper hardware and less staff?
someone above certainly said it right, you get what you pay for. i have to say thouh…when things are running smoothly, i like dreamhost. like the panel, features and certainly the price. too bad there are other more important factors.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
…
March 25th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
Still down.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
