Problem with central services (panel, webmail, etc..) and spunky cluster
We are currently experiencing problems with one of our internal firewall machines that is causing problems with our central services connecting to our customer database. This problem is expected to be fixed within 20 minutes, we apologize for the trouble and will update this post as soon as it is resolved or more information becomes available as to the cause.
UPDATE 2:40 PM PDT **
Problems with central services have been resolved. Panel , webmail and other central services should be working as usual. There are still a few problems with the spunky clusters that may be causing outages for customers websites/ftp. These problems are also being fixed at this time and this post will be updated when those are fixed.
UPDATE 4:39 PM PDT **
All of the networking problems and spunky cluster problems have been resolved. We apologize again for the outage and if you are still having trouble feel free to contact support with the service you are having problems with.
UPDATE 5:11 PM PDT **
There have been reports of problems with the spunky cluster , we will re-open this status post until we have more information to what caused this problem. If you are on the spunky cluster and are experiencing downtime it is still due to the networking issue.

Well, it’s been over an hour… my faith in this company is shaken, Hostagtor is starting to look mighty friendly.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
It’s back up.

20 minutes eh?
oh, and I love how the title makes the problem seem somewhat insignificant… until you realize the the etc part actually means AND EVERYTHING ELSE.
My websites and I are going somewhere else. The level of service, communication, and everything else here is AWFUL. Plus I still haven’t forgotten about the whole billing mess a few months back.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:23 pm
really people? you really want 16 blog updates every five minutes? well, I’D rather have someone be busy fixing the problem than have someone be busy letting us KNOW they’re fixing the problem.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:23 pm
Sawtelle web service is down by the way =]
March 25th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
weeeeee. dhftw!
March 25th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
Nope, my sites are still down.
I’m going to email DH nicely about this after it’s fixed, telling them that the downtime lately has been too much and I’d like some sort of credit on my account for my pain.
I’m also going to tell them if they don’t improve in the next few months I am going to have to leave.
I hate to do that, but this is really too much…spunky has been funky more than not.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
Second time my websites are down this week. Oh well.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:25 pm
Hostgator randomly deleted my databases. Stay away from those guys.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:25 pm
dear dreamhost. never put an ETA on a fix you aren’t sure you’ll make. kthxbai
March 25th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
HMMM, all that money we are loosing while dreamhost just gets richer and richer by screwing us up.
tsk tsk tsk….
Imagine all those pay per click ads chewying up your dollars as visitors get sent to “nowhere land”….
Imagine all those google bots trying to crawl your pages only to find out there is nothing there….
rankings slowly fall number by number until you are on page 2, then page 3 …..
You may say I’m a dreamer, but its a FUCKING NIGHTMARE!!!!
March 25th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
My outgoing mail on multiple accounts with Dreamhost are down. It doesn’t mention this in the status. Is anyone else’s POP mail down, too? Or, is this an entirely different issue.
Look, I don’t expect much for $7 a month (more like 5 times that with the multiple accounts that I administer), but I do expect when someone suggests 20 minutes, that it doesn’t take over triple that. (and counting)
*sigh*
March 25th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
I cant send mail out.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
Of course the sign up page is working, that’s the part of the site where they make money - it doesn’t matter if the members sites work because who gives a fuck - they already paid. For a place that concerns itself so much with being funny you guys sure are coming off like a bunch of dumb kids.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
MEDIUM?!?!
March 25th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
NetChick,
I can receive email but I can’t send it out. So I have been sending out email through a free online webmail service with my DH return address.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
I have sites of my clients… and I said to them this problem will be fixed “in 20 minutes… or so…” but as I see…. +1 hour and still waiting…
No updates??
March 25th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
None of my sites went down. Not even mail.
Rockin’.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
http://www.site5.com/support/uptime.php - I really wish there was this type of info readily available for DH. I have my limits as well but I’m so cheap that one day a month when I get caught up on stale emails is probably a good thing…
Too bad I then hit the SMTP cap and my account gets blocked!
March 25th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
Why this web falls ever?
March 25th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
This is my last “incident” with dreamhost. I’m f’ng outta here. Dreamhost suck BIGTIME
March 25th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
admiralty still down - mail and websites
March 25th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
And LOL to the people who paid for callbacks with their account, they’re just paying for 3 days of help since EVERYDAY the fucking thing is down, and all theyre told is probably ‘Doh looks like we messed up! Hehehe we’re so silly! We’ll fix it don’t u worry mister! Hehehehheheh have a nice day!’ Since all these idiots running this thing are kids. I’m so damn ANGRY this happens DAILY now!
March 25th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
I have good faith it all turns out, but does this affects FTP as well? Since I was earlier able to login, but suddenly now I can’t :S.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
I want here all night (in italy are 22:28) until all again! Shit!
March 25th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
When I log on to my shell it just takes me to the root directory. Says that my home directory isn’t even there. All my websites are down. This is ridiculous, get your shit together.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
Hmm… Anon… Wish I could use gmail for my business correspondence, but I can’t. And, I have several really critical emails sitting in my outbox. Ya, I can receive too. Not much good for what I need to get out the door in the next 30 minutes until East goes home. I guess I had better get on the phone. Good times. Not.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
Okay - i have been quiet in the past … I have been loyal for five years with Dreamhost, and I just actually went through the horrific process of getting a domain that Network Solutions had their claws into and I am STILL having issues with that……..I was patient through the brownouts 2 years ago, backup servers going offline ….. but this is starting to get a bit ridiculous…..my patience is actually starting to wear thin.
Dreamhost can offer all these great deals, but they need to do something as compensation for all this chaos they seem to be dealing with.
I tried to help them out when I was an IT reseller to help with their problems a while back……but they turned me down.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
Ok. You guys are right. I’m starting looking for another provider.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
ha ha you guys need to take a chill pill

ev1servers.net takes you to www.theplanet.com - dedicated servers!
that’s the answer then!

danm, I wonder how much traffic this page must be getting? We could put links here to promote our services and products …maybe put affil links here so we can get rich like dreamhost

#282, js: DON’T go to Site5. I migrated all accounts from there about 2 years ago. They entirely suck these days. At least DH gives status updates of some sort. Site5 are a bunch of asses that don’t know service at all. The left hand over there doesn’t have a clue that the right hand is scratching your ass. They suck.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
I just have published my software on Softpedia and users can“t download anything.

March 25th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
Oddly enough, I can login and exchange keys via SSH, but my certificate login isn’t working. Strangeness. Perhaps my server can’t talk to my Disk Array?
Sites came up for about 45 seconds, and went down again. Ugh.

Oops I meant
serverpath.com - which leads the answer to be… “http://servepath.com/”
March 25th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
just logged in in my a account and got:
javaroche@poprock:/home$ Could not chdir to home directory /home/javaroche: No such file or directoryDamn!! all my data lost :S
March 25th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
NetChick,
For email try inbox.com - it’s free and you can create as many return address to send from as you wish.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
#301 j_aroche, that doesn’t mean your data is lost. That just means that the NFS share isn’t mounted properly (or at all).
March 25th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
Thanks anon, I’ll try that.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:35 pm
On a side note, they publicly tell us that dreamhoststatus.com is hosted offsite, so even if they have a melt down at their location, this page is still available.

No matter where you go there will be problems. They are always on top of it and moving as fast as they can- it’s obviously not in their best interest to have you (and I) upset.
Crying on these boards about how you are “OMFG MOVING LIKE ALL MY FUCKING SITES TODAY!!! THIS IS SUCH A LOAD OF CRAP LOLOL” is not helping anything.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:35 pm
NetChick 282
Thanks for the heads up, I’m not leaving…
We had bought servers, housed them in a farm environment at a pretty penny for 4 years and had similar down time issues. The only difference was that you could call and speak to someone to figure out what was going on.
One day things went really wrong and we suffered 2 out of 3 servers die on the same day due to some “power” issues and the farm didn’t take any responsability… we were out of there.
The Google Apps options seems interesting for mail at this point. We have 30 or so clients on our account and will probably send them a note since mail seems to be everyone’s critical app.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:35 pm
Everything seems to be working again! =)
March 25th, 2008 at 2:35 pm
weird, when these problems started happening again today my cpu and memory usage on my private server shot WAY up
March 25th, 2008 at 2:36 pm
#301, Aroche:
Yea, seems the Web servers (mine’s Abbabaza) can’t connect to the disk arrays… so yea… no disks, no data… no Home Directory.

My site got the connections limited which has been killing my biz and I was told I had to upgrade to a dedicated server. I have been waiting a MONTH for DH to set me up to pay them 400 a month. I am leaving DH! My new server should be ready today but I can’t get my email which will tell me if its ready. I HATE DH! The ONLY good thing about DH is the transfer limit they give, yet your sites get limited or just go down that you can never use that limit, so its pointless. 20 minutes my butt.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
I have a lot of dedicated servers on ThePlanet www.theplanet.com and its fantastic .. very very good service !!!
Try it!
March 25th, 2008 at 2:38 pm
Way to lose more customers DreamHost.
I for sure as hell am not going to renew your crap service.
