WordPress 2.5 available in the One-Click Installer!
Congrats to the WordPress team on shipping one of the biggest updates in recent memory, WordPress 2.5. They’ve completely refreshed the admin interface with the help of Happy Cog and while it might take a little getting used to, it certainly feels a lot nicer. More information on the release is available on the WordPress development blog and screenshots of the new interface can be found here.
The 2.5 update has been made available in the Advanced One-Click Installer and should be a fairly painless upgrade. If you’re itching to get your hands on it, go ahead and give it a spin as soon as you get a chance. We’ll be here if any questions come up, so feel free to file a ticket with our Support Team if you run into any major issues.
P.S. The update to the easy installer should be pushed thru between Monday, March 31st and Tuesday, April 1st. Sorry about the delay, but there are a few things that need to be done to make sure the upgrade goes smoothly for everyone.
P.P.S. If you wish to use the new plugin updater, you’ll need to temporarily disable “Extra Web Security” as there is a conflict with our current mod_security rules. Alternately, you can leave “Extra Web Security” turned on and update your plugins per their individual update instructions. This involves uploading them manually tho and can sometimes prove to be a bit of a hassle. We’ll try to have an update to our mod_security rules in the next few days tho and an update will be posted here when there’s a resolution to this issue.

Good news if my website would work, but has been down during the last… 60 hours!

YAY, a new toy
lol
March 29th, 2008 at 11:54 am
i thought they delayed the stable release of 2.5 again. last time i checked there were about 300+ tickets to be reloved. if so then why is DH making it available for actual use?
March 29th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
This is the stable release, nataichera: http://wordpress.org/development/2008/03/wordpress-25-brecker/

You first DreamHost. Let’s see it work on the Easy Mode One-Click Installerooneys WordPresses

You might want to note that quite a few plugins may not be compatible with this release yet, and that they can check what is from here:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Plugins/Plugin_Compatibility/2.5
Although the list isn’t complete it’ll probably be helpful.
March 29th, 2008 at 1:26 pm
Not a big fan of the new backend. I’d recommend the Fluency Admin plugin, only for WP2.5
March 29th, 2008 at 5:00 pm
Awesome.
This will be my first upgrade using DH’s upgrade/installer. Where’s the best place to find directions to make this upgrade as smooth as possible? Or is it just a matter of deactivating plugins and upgrading inside DH?
Also, will I need to re-implement any modifications I’ve made to the theme I’m using?
Thanks!

Worked like a charm, thanks DS

All of them.
Unless you’re running a bone stock installation, you’re better off doing the manual upgrade, which is very simple. The complete instructions are at wordpress.org and they’re very detailed, so you’d have to try really hard to mess something up.

@Randy
I’ve upgraded WordPress (and other things) using the auto-update feature in the panel many times and it’s never effected my themes or plugins or anything like that. It’ll even backup the whole folder the program resides in to “whatever.old” if something went wrong (which i’ve never had happen). then you just upgrade the database if necessary (one click if needed) and you’re on your marry way…
no idea why others said you should do it manually … unless of course i’m just lucky or they aren’t trusting enough to try it
March 29th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
Dope! I just installed WordPress on one of my sites yesterday, now its time to upgrade…
March 29th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
DH .. you should fix tha main problem with your sever then work with the other things … my website DOES NOT WORK it is down … so what can I do with Wordpress??
March 30th, 2008 at 12:00 am
Go cry in a relevant post dumbass.
Are you saying they should leave the old version in place with security holes, because of an irrelevant problem? Think before typing next time.
By the way, they don’t have “a server” try way over 1000. Great idea though, just let them all go to hell because you’re on one with a problem.

1-click upgrade worked perfectly, as it always does in my experience.
Still some prep to do beforehand, though, like backup your database and deactivate all plugins. Worth spending a bit of time reading the relevant bits in the upgrade guide on the WordPress Codex:

I feel sad reading that WordPress is updated while my Dreamhost Private Server never worked since the first day. I’m on day 12 with my sites down and my data unavailable for download of transfer to another hosting.
March 30th, 2008 at 1:09 pm
Dreamhost sucks! Lets search for other hosts, any idea? I heard bluehost is pretty good.
Thanks,
Jimmy

either i’m just lucky, everyone else is unlucky, or just whiners but i’ve never had any real issues with dreamhost and i’ve been here over a year now …

Companies may lure you in using the promise of “bargain” web hosting, but just how much of a “bargain” is it in real terms? Your savings up front come out of what an honest, reputable company would invest in things such as quality equipment which is frequently upgraded, thorough and seamless system redundancy, pro-active maintenance, fast and dependable customer service, among many other aspects that today’s webmasters require. Once they’ve accepted your payment, you’ll quickly discover that the lack of such necessities results in lost traffic, lost data, lost customers, lost income, and possibly even a lost mind from waiting, infuriated, for days on end to get anything that could even loosely be termed “support.”
When you’re ready to sacrifice that comparatively small initial savings for the sake of finally seeing all those profits you’ve been missing out on, you won’t need to waste even more time just searching for a reliable host, because you’re already only a few easy clicks away from having an Astonishing Host! Our shared hosting plans start at $34.99 per month ( http://astonishinghost.com/packages/shared/pricing.php ), but for the additional investment you get:
- Unmetered (often misleadingly labeled “unlimited”) Multi-Homed Premium Bandwidth!
- 5,000 MB Disk Space on State-of-the-art Hardware!
- 1,000 MB Guaranteed RAM (1450 MB Burstable!) for EVERY site, using our exclusive, patent-pending technology!
- 99.999% Uptime SLA with triple refund of that month’s fees!
- The stability and security of our newly-built datacenter equipped with strict, biometric access controls and multiple alternate power sources and cooling systems! See for yourself at http://astonishinghost.com/virtual_tour.swf

Did either of you clueless assholes bother to check how many of those results were just from morons posting what you just posted, also thinking they were being clever? Mentioning those stats adds 1 to it each time, again showing how useless it is.
The fact that you spammed it in multiple posts tells me that you’re the same affiliate spammers that planted the cookies earlier, knowing you still get $100 from Hostgator if people go back and sign up.
Plus, you are intentionally lying:
“dreamhost sucks” = ~4,000, not 131,000
“avoid dreamhost” = 136 results, not 91,400. See the slight differences?
Of course, you already know that anyone stupid enough to consider that a real stat would be too stupid to confirm it.
Dreamhost is so much bigger than hostgator that it would be meaningless anyway. The percentages work in Dreamhost’s favor.

This would be really great news if the support page didn’t tell us to not use the service we are paying for.
That said, I did upgrade my test site to 2.5 earlier, went thru just fine.

WORDPRESS HACKED DREAMHOST!!!!
Hi wrote again a support ticket to dreamhost because of all my sites down (no, i’m not on blingy cluster, I’m in the other one that was down for a week some days ago)
This is the answer I got
Hello,
We’re terribly sorry about the problems you’ve experienced with your
site. Basically, we discovered a large scale attack on our servers,
related to a wordpress exploit. This exploit was being used by a large
network of spammers, causing the network links between your servers and
the outside world to become saturated.
We have fixed this issue, so service should be restored to normal. If
you’re still seeing problems, please let us know directly, and we’ll be
happy to look into it for you.
Thanks!
Brian
BUT TODAY ALL MY SITES ARE DOWN AGAIN. SO THAY HAVE BEEN DOWN AND UP FOR 9 OF THE LAST 12 DAYS!!!
This is a pity hosting, I have just get another hosting (no, it is not that spammy hostgator, that’s another pity) for just a $50 more a year. The only problem is that I have to move all my domains to there, but it will worth it.
April 2nd, 2008 at 2:13 pm
wordpress toooooooooooooo slow………………….. on dream sucker from day one.
why sufer should wait 10 second to open dream sucker page????????????????????????????????
they are so sucking slow from a year ago.
April 2nd, 2008 at 4:57 pm
My dreamhost private server, and all the sites on it, have been down all day (since around 9am PST). Put in a ticket 2-3 hours ago, and have received no response. It would be great to have an (unofficial) dreamhost status site that lets people experiencing downtime see whether others are having the same problem.
April 2nd, 2008 at 5:24 pm
Bernie - I have the same problem, my sites have been down all day even after private server reset. I always check the DreamHostStatus.com comments (these) to see if anyone else is having problems and usually there we are… all upset.
This sucks.
