Spunky / Spacey Mail Downtime
We are currently experiencing problems with the process that handles scheduled updates. This has caused a disruption in mail service. This will account for the password errors, imap connection errors, etc. that are being generated when attempting to access your mailbox. Newly created user aren’t being setup either. Our admins are diligently working to resolved the issue. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Please check back here for future updates.

Update 04/9/08 5pm pacific: The problem is now resolved. If you’re still having problem with your email address, it’s unrelated, and we would be happy to help. Please contact support with details through the control panel.

Christ- no wonder it was taking forever to make a new address and I can’t connect to it. It’s always when I’m doing something huge that your servers go down. I should just check here first before doing any work ever.

I first reported problems changing email passwords on spunky yesterday morning and even received a response from DH support this morning (7AM) saying that it was up and running. Now almost a full day later still no change and FINALLY there’s something here. Very annoying… I hope it’s fixed soon.

Hmm, I was told of email errors by staff on Monday morning (PST’s Sunday midday). I filed a ticket Tuesday very ealy (PST Monday morning) and haven’t heard back yet. Now finally on Wednesday afternoon (Tuesday evening) they put up a notice. I hope it didn’t take 2 days to notice the problem! And the emails had better get through! Nothing like moving a new client to DH and then have things go haywire. Poor timing sucks and makes us all look bad…

I know the guys at DH probably don’t read this, but this would be easier to deal with if it was updated at all. There has been A LOT of downtime lately and while I’m certainly not impressed, I can be understanding as long as I know what’s going on.

Well crap. I get a mail message saying it should be fixed now and then I try and login again. No luck. Check this blog and find that it is down still or again not sure which yet. 2 days and counting.

Your performance in this matter is absolutely pathetic. This issue needs to be corrected immediately or you will very soon start losing customers. Please post an update as soon as possible. People on my end are already considering new hosting solutions after being without email they require to do their jobs for twenty four hours. Again, pathetic.

Throughout all of the downtime over the last few weeks with the move and now this I’ve stuck through it because being in IT, I know how difficult it can be. But I, like so many here, have been without e-mail for 24 hours now which is getting ridiculous. I will also be looking for another host.

Agreed things fall apart sometimes but to issue email collapse as MEDIUM LEVEL IMPORTANCE is abysmal. Credit had better be issued. I sure wish this company would provide alternate methods to communicate… like uh, phone service — especially when you can’t even reach tech support via webmail. Cluetrain!

You blog about the other debacle, yet this (Spunky) one continues on. I would like some answers on this one and maybe even a ‘flattering’ (Well, as flattering as DH can be) blog post with a month credit too. My one client insisted on staying with DH when I moved AWAY from them for these antics quite a while ago, and this client is really starting to doubt their decision to stay as well.
I had emailled you a while ago (Right after Sparky was supposedly ‘fixed’ last time) about the email service being loopy - It’s not until now that it’s being seriously looked over? Impressive.
DH, I think you’ve gotten bigger than you can manage.

funny thing is, I’m on the brink of a massive launch, with members areas and such, so I’m kinda glad this has happened now, cos I was considering them for a private server or whatever you call it, but now I’m going to go with the one Frank Kern suggests. At least this way I’ve had a view of what happens when the shit hits the fan… can you imagine 5,000 people trying to buy your product at launch time and the server crashing? No bloody chance. Sorry DH I’ve been praising you guys for 2 years but this is appalling.

I have been facing problems since monday, it took 24 hours for the problem to be reported, and so far another 24 until it gets solved. I am sick of the mail problems Dreamhost reports ( or not ) pretty much every week.

Two of my newly created addresses don’t work…
Can’t understand why this issue keeps coming back, and why it takes DH more than 16hours to fix this…
In the meantime, it’s not just a virtual problem. Two people who can’t communicate and work using their email, on a hosting that I personally recommended to them…
What about giving a little push to solve this problem ASAP guys? Or maybe just use a different server if that one keeps being broken… GO TEAM!!!
