Webserver persephone being moved to new hardware
The webserver persephone has experienced a hardware failure and is being moved to new hardware. This process should take about 30 minutes, and I’ll post an update when finished.
Update 15:51: I’ve finished moving persephone to its new hardware, and it appears to be working properly. If you have any sites hosted on this webserver that are not working please contact technical support.
Update 16:05: It seems the new hardware I put persephone is having some problems of it’s own, so I’ll be moving it again. I apologize for the continued outages.
Update 16:54: New new persephone should be working properly now, we’re going to continue to monitor it carefully, and of course if you have any sites hosted on it that aren’t working please let us know.

@Tom - sometimes that’s the cost of uptime. It is easier to fail over to new hardware and then look at the old hardware later. Otherwise your sites are going to sit down on a test bench for a lonnnnnng time.

It’s too bad because I was about to recommend a new user, in spite of the many negative reviews. I was thinking they were from a minority of disgruntled complainers. But now I’m ready to join them.
I was already unhappy about the unprofessional way Dreamhost communcations are written. I teach high school and the level of maturity in some communications is at about the same level.
Speaking of which, if someone from Dreamhost could kill ROFLCOPTER’s post, that would be the second service to their customers they could perform immediately.

I finally was able to get on the Panel. I checked my bandwidth usage and the dates were defaulted to 2001. On my disk-usage page the totals for all of my sites were 0.
And David R, complaining about “unprofessional” communications isn’t going to garner any support. I personally enjoy the newsletters, and I’m a 36-year-old man who studied English Literature in college.

Wow, expressing my opinion isn’t going to garner support? What kind of company would punish a customer of 5 years for complaining about an ongoing annoyance? Actually, it’s better now than it used to be. No yuk-yukking and elbowing in the ribs “know what I mean, gov’na?” during outages. It’s an improvement.

ARG! And now, when I can’t get into the Control Panel to make mail account changes, I also cannot get to the only avenue of reporting an issue, which is via the Control Panel.
I’ve harangued for years about getting an “off-network” means of reporting issues, but it has fallen on deaf ears.

What the heck is going on with them. The dreamhost web panel isn’t working, the mysql isn’t working properly nothing’s working and they’ve not even listed it here as a status condition, I just tried to create a mysql domain and got:
DBI connect(’database=dns;host=cccccc,’dns’,…) failed: Too many connections at /usr/local/lib/site_perl/Ndn/Common/Db.pm line 312
What is going on with these guys at DH. Our sites have been super slow then thtey tell me that it’s our own fault because we have high hahndlers on the mysql, yet our forums that use the mysql server is a very well known software package and our sites hardly get any use at all, theres somethign screwy in denmark if you ask me. Mysql outages, sites slow to a crawl, sites just going dead, ffp that disconnects right in the middle of a transfer etc etc etc. They need some serious help to get this stuff straightened out and become the dreamhost that they were when they were still new in the business were really hungry for the business.

support@dreamhost.com gives an error (bounce) asking for a ticket number. So I replied to an open ticket, but it got bounced back.

I responded, and my e-mail was successful, to an open ticket from yesterday when all my sites went down…
They said :
Our admins have been troubleshooting snocap and have taken actions to
stabilize it by throttle another user on the server whom was causing
instability. There was a recent reboot 15 minutes and the server has been
stable since. We will continue to monitor this for long term stability. I
am sorry for any inconveniences this may have caused.
… so, now all DreamHost is down because on ONE user ?

Dreamhost has absolutely no clue about how to handle customers during an outage, especially a widespread problem like this seems to be. If they would simply acknowledge these outages within an hour or so on the status page, they would have far, far fewer irate customers.
I hardly think having one person post a brief, factual update every couple hours would detract from their repair efforts. Most of us have pre-paid well in advance, and many of us are losing a good deal of money due to these outages, The very least they can do is keep us abreast of what’s going on.
