Central Database Issues
Some bad code caused our session database to back up which is resulting in errors and sluggish account control panel performance. The admin team is fixing this up and should have it resolved in the next 10 minutes or so.
Update: this issue is now resolved

I have been struggling with a veryslow panel. Please let us know when this issue gets resolved. An announcement would have gone a long way in saving ur customers a lot of time.

I just started the process of upgrading phpBB when 3.0 imported just half of the posts - guess it was the mysql issue in that same second when I started the convert process

I’ve been struggling with a non-responsive panel for about 2 hours. I didn’t see anything on here so I was wondering if somehow I was the only one…phew.
It seems to be working ok now, but I hate how DH seems to randomly crap out on me at the most inopportune times.

thanks for the acknowledgment - 4 hours later.

Thanks for getting on this so fast DreamHost!
April 24th, 2008 at 2:13 pm
Fast? It took them hours to even let us know they knew about the problem!
April 24th, 2008 at 2:16 pm
Don’t be so negative. They are fixing it. They have lives to. 4 hours later or not, its getting fixed. Some hosts would have you down for weeks before they realize it.

My phpMyAdmin was down for about twenty minutes today but that’s all I’ve noticed.d.

It’s nice that people think that they fixed this quickly. However, the most frightening thing is that “bad code” caused it. It’s called T E S T I N G - and DH needs to learn how to do it with their code BEFORE deploying it to the central database server. There have been two other major incidents (the DNS-eating script last year and the massive billing fubar) also caused by “bad code”. And apparently they still haven’t learned their lesson.

@brasscrest
Sounds like you have never had a job.
Even with all the testing that they do, DO. (Every company does quite rigorous testing and QA) bugs will occur, and the more complex and scaled something is the more bugs. Dreamhost is fricking huge. Most companies won’t admit they made a mistake, but Dreamhost does.

ok why is it that EACH and EVERY day, there’s one problem or the other? Why don’t we have one problem free day……….
April 25th, 2008 at 5:47 am
The issue is not resolved. I haven’t been able to log in to Control Panel in over 12 hours now.

Works fine for me, Eric.

My website is down. What da %#%$#% is going on???
April 25th, 2008 at 8:17 am
4 hours does seem like a long time for them to notice a central portal of their site is down. Not just “sluggish” Dreamhost, but down or non-functional. Isn’t there some kind of feedback to let you know immediately there’s a problem? How about keeping an eye on this Status blog? When you start getting 30 irate messages, it’s time to pay attention. In my job, if something goes wrong and I don’t notice for 4 hours, somebody else surely does!
As another user mentioned, why isn’t there a way to contact support from outside the Web Panel. My emails were all bounced back.
April 25th, 2008 at 12:01 pm
They already know immediately. They use it. Reporting panel problems is pointless.

Still can’t login.

My site won’t even load, is this the reason? I can get in through SFTP but it’s extreeeemeeely slow, I was getting pissed thinking it was the usual ‘thats what you get for shared hosting’ excuse, but I don’t expect shared hosting to be this slow. What’s weird is that they day before it was going faster than ever, then the day after (Yesterday) it just went sooo slow, my site won’t even load anymore. Just wondering if this is the reason behind it if not to file a ticket. Thanks guys appreciate any response.

Panel wouldn’t have anything to do with your site being down.
