Some servers getting quick reboots today
Posted (June 11th, 2008 at 12:54 pm PST) by jeremyFor security reasons, we’ll be upgrading kernels on some of our servers today, requiring a quick reboot. It’s only about 15% of the servers, so most of you won’t notice any impact. We’ll also be putting some measures in place to prevent unnecessarily long downtimes so total downtime should be in the range of 2-3 minutes maximum for those that are affected. For obvious security reasons, we can’t post a list of servers affected, but rest assured that we’ll be keeping a close eye on them all to make sure no undue downtime is incurred.

I hope during this time you have some techs aside to answer the support inquires that have still yet to be answered. I am sure many are working around the clock but not having anything for over an 8 hour time period is really bad looking to those who see this type of thing (a potential client, etc.).

Generally sending in multiple inquiries at a time, doesn’t help speed things up.
Anyways, I’m glad that some security is being updated…. I help provide a bit of support for Simple Machines, and there have been a ton of people complaining about security holes without even realizing that their host’s index file has been hacked.

I’m just curious as I am trying to keep my friend calm when her business site has been down for more than 12+ hours now.
I’m don’t see anyone sending in multi inquiries (and I know the friend has only sent in one this morning) I’m simply stated that this site is the only way some of DH’s clients can find out whats going on, there is no phone support, there have been no contact from DH’s side to my friends ticket put in at the crack of dawn, nothing. I would love to have atleast some type of notice besides the original posted here. It makes client feel secure in who they are doing business with.

You can sometimes find helpful people at the DH forums at http://discussion.dreamhost.com . Sometimes they can help figure out what’s going on with you.

Now I remember why I left DreamHost last time.
It seems like there is ALWAYS a serious problem with a cluster. Sometimes it is the SAME damn problem over and over again, every other day.
I am outta here AGAIN.

@Why
Anyone can use an RSS feed and anyone can respond. Get my drift?

My site has been down all day, and the support system available on this site is all but worthless. Someone please investigate.

Just a heads up guys and gals that our website seems to be disliking whatever’s going on. :p 2-3 minutes has turned into seven+ hours of not working :O Hopefully you can fix this soon!

Our sites are still down. I’m curious: does anyone else who pays for Phone Callback support ever actually get called?
June 13th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
My sites are up, but I can’t send mail. I also can’t log in to panel.dreamhost.com. My password keeps getting rejected.
Coincidence or related?

My website has been down for 5+ hours.
When I try to go, keeps sayin’ “The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.”

@AP
Seriously? You post today. This post was 4 days ago, you sir don’t even deserve to host a website if you can’t tell time.
*sigh*

I think I know the real answer for all this “server went down…” here´s a video taken from a security camera at Dreamhost Datacenter:

The Abuse email address on the site bounces. What gives?
Diagnostic-Code: smtp;550 : Recipient address rejected: User unknown in virtual alias table
