Duck and cover!
Posted (July 29th, 2008 at 11:56 am PST) by LeonYep, we just had a decent sized earthquake in the greater LA area, but everything looks fine so far. We’ve done a quick inventory of our machines down in our datacenter and everything appears to be okay.
We’ll update this post if any issues manage to come up due to the earthquake.

Glad you guys are okay.
I’m down at Rosarito Baja and we felt it too, but it was just a mild shake. Good luck to you guys. Hope there is no power failure.
earthquake felt from 50th floor is a fun ride.
That was The Lord blasting bolts of ass smitage into a couple of servers.
So, Mother Nature’s not happy about losing access to her junk mail folder either.
Be safe DH staff!
Remember to keep your self alive as well not just the servers!
No problems with my site. I’m impressed!
so why again are a lot of big data centers located in earthquake prone places like LA?
Yeah, well, keep laughing, DH. Nervously. I’ll be watching the USGS Shakemaps website to see when your building won’t just be wobbling but walking across LA. Just make sure that I get a nice fat refund for all the offline months when you’ll be gathering up the pieces. Not being dark here, just realistic. Why don’t you guys move DH inland, like to Denver or Madison? Blog about your crisis backup plan for us…
As soon as I saw the news, I assumed my websites would be falling into the ocean. Glad everyone’s ok.
@Mel:
…you’ve never been through an earthquake, have you? Or lived for a long time in an earthquake area? Given the fact that in 30 years of living in LA, I’ve ridden out precisely one earthquake that inconvenienced me (no power for a day, no water for two) versus the yearly knockouts due to winter storms, tornadoes and/or hurricanes, I’d opt for DH to stay in LA, rather than go to the Rockies or to the edge of Canada.
@Mel: You’re kind of a loon. But if you think DH should move the servers to your underground bunker in Wyoming, I’m assuming you’d be willing to eat the certain downtime you’d incur…as opposed to preemptively demanding a refund for the hypothetical apocalypse you’re anticipating.
er, i guess you last two posters have never read anything about the “big one” …

Good luck to you!
