Network maintenance tonight (07/30)

Posted (July 30th, 2008 at 10:53 am PST) by jeremy

Tonight, around 10pm, we’ll be plugging in 5 new network links to expand our bandwidth by 50%. We don’t expect any downtime to be incurred but we’ll have our Cisco consultant on-site in case anything happens.

Update 11:53pm Pacific: We turned on the links, and we seem to be cooking along. The remote router hiccuped once, but we have been stable for over an hour now.

Update 05:41am Pacific: http://www.dreamhoststatus.com/2008/07/31/network-blip-for-some-customers/ Seems it did not go as well as it first appeared.

It always scares me when I see that… it doesn’t matter who the host is…

Thanks for letting us know and it’s good to hear you’re upgrading! (even though I have no speed complaints)

Krusty has been at least down three times in the last 24 hours, but it’s never once mentioned on this page. *sigh* I’m tired of logging tickets, being told it’s okay, and then finding out it’s not a little while later.

glad to see bandwidth will be upgraded. i’m slightly unhappy with my upload speeds compared to my last host. although overall i’m very pleased with dreamhost.

Don’t forget to plug in the other ends of the cables. Or is that what the consultant is for? ;)

I’m currently down. Could it be due to the upgrade?

My server has been crap since last evening .. baddddd today.. 20 second page load. I hope this is it,
8) loving customer

All site extremely slow! traceroute is contain more hops (before 12-14 hops, now 18-25 hops)!
Expand BW is wll but speed must be increase.
Make all posible for work in noirmal mode our sites.

Seeing some major problems here:

— securityandthe.net ping statistics —
60 packets transmitted, 41 packets received, 31% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 161.225/162.202/163.354/0.647 ms

— panel.dreamhost.com ping statistics —
60 packets transmitted, 42 packets received, 30% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 161.254/162.709/172.428/1.638 ms

I’ve got a dozen different sites down on a dozen different Dreamhost accounts, can’t login to the Panel and there’s nothing here on the emergency status page?

BIG network problems. Tracert basically dies at one of your GBLX hops!!! website up 1 in 5 attempts….otherwise times out!!! paner has some issues….think the upgrade has some issues! please review! submitted support request

Jeff,

I think they already are aware of the problem as they are downing the GBLX interface and bringing it back up. I’m seeing heavy packet loss (50 - 60%) when the GBLX interface is up two hops before it hits DH routers. So one in front of the GBLX 146.82.32….. IP.

The funny thing is that DH was having this exact same problem a awhile back with GBLX before they dumped GBLX.

This is great news!
