Network/Router Problems
Posted (August 15th, 2008 at 4:12 pm PST) by RalphIt seems our network upgrade did not go as smoothly as we had hoped. We are currently experiencing network problems at our router which are causing downtime and slowness for all services that we offer. A team of administrators are investigating this issue. We will update this post as we have more information for you.
Update 5:30PM PST August 15: We have removed the bandwidth provider that appears to be causing all the problems. Sites should be up now, you should be able to access the panel, and services should be faster than before. We are leaving this status post as unresolved until we are positive that everything is better.
Update 5:58PM PST August 15: We have added the bandwidth provider back in and it appeared to cause some problems again initially. It is still up and things seem to be improving. Still not resolving this issue yet and reading your comments as well as contacting customers with support messages to see how things are from your end.
Update 6:04pm August 18: Things appear to be working properly now.

Most of my sites have been down all day and you just post this now….not a happy customer…
Doh! Pretty stupid to “upgrade” in the middle of the day…
Is this also why it sucked yesterday and before that
Heh, it was doing this same exact thing like 36 hours ago too. FTP/SFTP/SSH grind to a halt, and transfers that do start slowly trickle down to 0.0 KBps and error out. Hope this gets fixed soon. In a way I’m “glad” its affecting everyone, means it gets paid a lot more attention to than just one cluster.
Cheers and good luck! You have Cisco on speed dial by now, right?
nail in the coffin… see ya Dreamhost!
Thanks for the update — way late, but thanks for acknowledging the issue.
I’m going to submit my request for a $1.28 credit for the downtime.
Email is slooooooowwww….
I LOL at trying to send an email to support@dreamhost.com, I get an auto reply that the email was NOT received and that I should use the support panel…which…lol again…has been down most of the day…funny isn’t it?
My FTP is dead. Darn. Guess I’m off to happy hour!
Interesting, glad to know.
I have another problem, which is garlic-induced (and mayonnaise-propelled) flatulence. I can barely stay conscious in the fog.
Can someone help?
Dreamhost is known for this bullshit. They are the most inefficient web hosting companies I’ve worked with. They constantly underestimate upgrades, plan them at inopportune times, and provide truly crappy support.
I have a dozen or more web sites hosted with Dreamhost. I think I’ll start looking for another hosting company. This is insane. I had a lot of friggin’ work to do tonight!!!!!!!
@Death Metal Maniac:
I LOLed at that one as I sit here with a plate of hard-boiled eggs and a salt shaker next to me…
Do any of you people work in IT? There are always hiccups. If this is the worst thing to happen to you today, you should count yourself lucky.
Get a life or go for a jog!
Why say the issue has been resolved when it obviously wasn’t?
Hey, Nick! Lemme clue you in on a couple fact you seem to be unaware of.
#1: the first two “w”s in “www.” stand for WORLD-WIDE.
#2: the world (Earth) is round. Really. It is.
That means that time zones have to exist, which means that, somewhere in the world, ANYtime is “in the middle of the day.” Since people are likely accessing your sites (regardless of wherever YOU happen to be) from all over the world, just when would be a good time?
Hmm, at least it happened on a friday night…
I like the way this has been going on for about a day and a half and it’s just now being considered an issue.
D’oh, not fun, I have services in Second Life which query my site’s scripts now and then (very light use) but which have been spouting error messages for 3 hours now as they repeatedly fail to connect. Maybe to upgrade the way the work sooner than I’d planned to be more fault tolerant, but annoying all the same!
Thanks for the announcement though, just hope it can be resolved quickly!
eeps! I hope you find it and figure it out. ![]()
I know it’s kind of rolling, so it might be hard to figure out. X_X
Saddly the grass is not always greener, although the uptime lately has been an issue with idreamofahost, the features and support is one of the best I have experianced (I actually left and came back, still have some stuff hosted elsewhere with to the best of knowledge, NO DOWN TIME to date…), DREAMHOST I WOULD HAPPILY PAY MORE IF YOU COULD GIVE ME BETTER UP TIMES!!!! STOP SELLING $5.95 WEBHOSTING AND START PROVIDING THE BEST UP TIME IN THE INDUSTRY!!!
How long will it be before I can get my files via FTP to move to another host?
Upgrade? really?
brilliant…just freaking brilliant…
Chad I understand there are hiccups. Unfortunately I’m going to be yelled at by at least 3 different people for this downtime. I wouldn’t mind if it were just my site but I have quite a few hosted. Oh well, nothing new for me anyway.
@Chad: s my d
DreamHost may have problems, but I’ve dealt with horrible hosts. In my opinion, they are a good host due to their transparency. Every host is bound of have downtime, especially when you are serving as large of a userbase as DreamHost. Of course they might not work for some of your needs, but they work for mine. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m staying on DreamHost. If you have a problem with them, just leave and don’t go screaming about it here.
The issue I see here is not the reliability of the company, but the users’ reaction to problems. If you are ticked at DreamHost, just leave. But, please, don’t go raising mayhem on their blog because you don’t agree with them. Post about it somewhere else, some of us are actually here to create a niche for ourselves out on the internet and your arrogance annoys us.
Franz, I understand that this sucks. It sucks for me too. I’ve had problems connecting to my Subversion repositories, but I understand that hosting isn’t perfect.
I just love to see people go nuts over this stuff, when their hosting pictures of their cats, that their friend in Maine can’t view.
Believe me, I feel the frustration, but what cha going to do? Go to GoDaddy?
Hey Trifles, take your punbb else where.
Like anyone views it anyways?
Wow, the Internetnet is amazing. Anonymity, what a bunch of whiny little trolls. I have hosted with Dreamhost for over 3 years, and have had so few downtimes that I can count them on one hand. They have been nothing but great at support.
There will be issues, and they will be fixed. NOTHING is solid as far as hosting and data centers go.
So be patient and quit whining, insulting, and being pathetic attention whores.
Well said CJ!!!!!!
I’m just glad it’s not just me — I thought my connection was having problems. At least this will get fixed. It sucks to have it be down just when I was working on something, but I can’t expect much for so little.
So lets see. Issue on this site at 4pm. Awesome… Too bad it happened around 11am. You have no phone number listed and you tell people to go to their panels, but the panels wouldn’t load. I call that a load. I work in a NOC for a medium sized website. We monitor all links with Nagios and this entire building basically shakes when we loose any sort of link due to the pagers going off. You solve it quickly. You roll back your changes. We’ve never had an issue drag on for this long. Adding additional links is tricky business. You plan plan plan. Then you work out a detailed execution script that includes instructions for a rollback if testing doesn’t pan out. Was testing even done here? Was the site accessed from an offsite location? Were customer sites checked? It doesn’t seem like it. Our company simply wouldn’t get in a mess like this. We’ve done plenty of operations like this and they’re executed perfectly even if the upgrades don’t go as planned. Our customers wouldn’t let us do it any other way. My year is up in Oct and right now I’m off to search for a better host. This is a joke.
I manage many domains on many hosts. I get the least amount of headaches with Dreamhost. Its I.T., this stuff happens. Try talking to GoDaddy’s support and see how much help ya get. ROTFL.
I’ve been having problems for hours, but there’s no way of posting a ticket to a webpanel that doesn’t work! DH needs an alternate ticket posting system hosted somewhere else! Why not put it on this status site?
its kinda funny how you get mainly two types of people posting here, the lovers (dream host is the best and they should be allowed to screw up quite regularly) and the haters (my site was down for 3 secs last week and now I am leaving), which one are you?
PS Not everyone host pictures of their cats, although I am sure yours are really cute, some people actually succesful e-commerce sites (hey you have to start somewhere for hosting) and this really impacts on their image and their sales, and yes we are looking for a better host (not virtual) but with the service and feature we have become to expect from dreamhost, not an easy hunt I must say…
ROAR DREAMHOST WORST HOST EVER ETC!!!!!!!
Actually, I don’t really care. Like it has been said, host your shit with an expensive hosting service if you need incredible levels of stability.
This status site is meant to provide us with a look into what issues are affecting services at DreamHost. It is not meant to be a support center where you can submit your problems for help. Why don’t you just sit back and let the IT admins work instead of whining to them about how you are going to leave DreamHost. Shut up and wait like the rest of us for everything to be back up.
I just don’t know how spammers are getting to my blog, while I even can’t reach blog’s homepage !!
I’ve just received more than 20 spam message notifications through my mail - while I can’t access my blog.
LGC Ltd, I completely understand relying on your website to be up for your business. And I hate my site being down too, but I’m not going to get all bent out of shape. I’ve host releases to major websites before, and it’s not fun, but it happens, and you move on. I just get tired of 3 people cussing up a storm, ‘I’m gonna leave here’, ‘you guys suck’, blah blah blah….
No one needs to hear it or see it. We’re all suffering.
LGC Ltd, I don’t love DreamHost. I just hate people who complain about a company in public and feel that everyone else has to know about it. If I want to know how horrible a company is doing, I’ll ask. But since I didn’t ask, I don’t want to know. I realize that there are e-commerce sites on DreamHost that are losing money because of this, and that is quite an issue. But I’ve run e-commerce solutions on other hosts that have been worse. Heck, there are hosts out there that seem to lose your databases on a regular basis. For me, DreamHost works. I might have a few issues (FastCGI instead of mod_python), but it still works. If you are going to complain, complain to somebody who wants to listen.
The best part was with dreamhost’s last posted issue: “This would not have caused domain downtime, so if you are having issue it is not related and you will need to contact support.” Tried to blame it on us, huh?
hey guys….
bluehost.com
unlimited bandwidth.
unlimited hosting.
unlimited domains.
all for the same price as dreamhost
You can do it! Dream host
Don’t listen to the haters they are just jealous they are not as smart!
peace
Chad: I will probably always use dreamhost as a host, price to service ratio is just too good, but when they take most of the day to acknowledge a problem it is very frustrating (I kept checking this site and nothing was posted that effected me so I thought it might just be me…see the second post made)…anyways I have come to the realization that I do need a better uptime host for our e-stores, I will try the Private Server option first (BTW does anyone know if the Private Server customers are affected by todays problems?) and if that does not pan out we may look at TRUE hosting on our own server, but thats because the business can justify it, and I can keep my side projects with dreamhost, not to mention all my sites geared towards cat hate.
All is back to full speed here! Thanks Dreamhost, you guys are the best. You guys must have superhero’s working in the support department! Can I have all of your autogrpaphs?
@ LGC Ltd.
If this was a router problem, every site and every hosting solution was probably adversely affected. Just FYI.
This blog here is more of a serious blog. It is meant to provide updates on the services, not a place for people to advertise third-party hosts and to make very sarcastic comments over DreamHost. Please stop, you are annoying those of us who are actually trying to remain updated on this problem.
ATTENTION Some guy say’s
don’t advertise in a forum silly head!
i will call my internet mafia boys to track you down and smash your router!
lol
my site today is VERY slow and sometimes goes down..
hope this problem could be fixed for tomorrow
I just love how the “update you soon” never happens. A quick one liner like “opened ticket with cisco support” or “rolling back changes” would be great (Isn’t this why they usually keep TWO configs in the flash chip at all times? Flip back to the old one?
Well i sure hope this gets resolved soon.
My sites appear to be coming back online - but clean urls in my drupal sites aren’t working.
My WordPress blog on Ivan says it’s unable to access its database on Spot: Bessie. I can, however, reach the database through phpMyadmin on Panel.
My sites were going good for about 15 minutes, they are super slow agaiin.
Keep going dreamhost guys, it must be close now.
Nope, its broke again.
Still can’t access site. https://www.homepcbuilder.com/
Michael cooper i cant see your site either, it just says its loading in Firefox
Maybe the bandwidthprovider isnt tottaly removed or there could be another problem.
I did get 15 minutes of fame from them but its super slow on my sites again too.
It’s now an hour after the last update saying things are fixed, but my web site is still having problems such as the videos not playing, and I’m still having trouble getting into the ftp of some of my other sites. I had a potential client email me today to say that she wasn’t impressed with my web site because it “didn’t work” - I sure hope there is some compensation for these problems from Dreamhost since it’s obviously affecting my business and I’m paying for the service to work properly.
Josh:
There’s never any compensation. With DH, you’re just SOL. I don’t really expect that much from a host for $20/y, but now that they’re $11/m they really should have stepped up their reliability, but they haven’t it’s same ole wooden nickle host as before, except now they’re even more expensive than more reliable hosts.
The only thing that makes DH worth it is coming here and bitching/reading others bitch.
Everything to do with my Dreamhosting service is slow! Web and http://FTP. I picked a bad night to do software updates *sigh*
Just got slow this afternoon. I’m not worried. They’ll fix it. Granted you shouldn’t do upgrades during the day but hey. Life on the edge is fun.
Ohh for people who say their support sucks…that is lies. I’ve always gotten great support and not canned answers. Real people with real human answers. I like that!
Appropedia was up again a little while ago, but now it’s down again.
well, it was down again for a few minutes… and now up again. Fingers crossed.
@some guy: about blue host..
you go ahead and move there, then after them, head to cirtexhosting.com, I’ll see ya back here in about a month!
site is back up and fast https://www.homepcbuilder.com/
see how long it lasts
Website loads FASTER than before (Using iwebtools.com website speed test).
http://photoshoptutorials.ws
My own sites are still running incredibly slow, slower than ever.
Mine too are loading faster than that normally have been.
Ran a e-mail campaign today! I was down most the day. WHAT THE ……? Is someone going to re-imburse me?
I’ve been with dreamhost for about six months and while I’m impressed with the price, features and the amount of access given, I’m slightly disappointed with the downtime. I wanted to upgrade to the dedicated server but right now I’m pretty reluctant to making that purchase.
Dreamhost has been a good provider for me for the most part, but in the half year I’ve had them they’ve had far more accidents and outages than any other host I’ve had.
I pay what comes out to about 7$/mo for the 10 year contract I have with Dreamhost. I don’t know about the rest of you all, but I’d be willing to pay more for something more reliable. Add more redundant systems, charge more, I’d be happy with that.
When I compare Dreamhost to other services, I can’t come close to what Dreamhost offers without exceeding 50$/mo, and I’m not talking about bandwidth or space, I don’t care about those as much as I do ease of use, SSH, Jabber, updated services, One-click installs, automation, subversion, google service integration, and many other features that I use every day.
I know this thread isn’t really meant for this review, but the problem seems to be fixed now, and I felt like trying to say something constructive about the situation.
For those of you demanding your dollar back for the service outage, stop and think how ridiculous that comment is, a host that costs less than a dollar a day should be expected to be 100% reliable. Dreamhost is completely perfect for the people making that sort of comment.
I for one, however, would like to see an upgraded hosting plan with Dreamhost, charge a lot more, and make complete certain it has at least a 99.99% uptime. Upgrading to a dedicated host doesn’t mean a thing for reliability, so it’s not a solution.
So any DH employees reading this, thanks for working hard on a Friday evening to resolve this. Please try to be more careful, and if there’s anything that can be done to increase reliability and decrease accidents in the future, do what it takes to make that happen.
@Nick Bilyk: ditto, my thoughts as well. I’d love to pay more for the service if it worked…
I’m on a Dreamhost PS, and even though I’m paying extra for what amounts to the bare minimum guaranteed resources (RAM and CPU), the reliability still sucks. My sites have been slug slow since last Sunday (30 sec to load an average page), and support hasn’t been able to pinpoint the problem. I have two outstanding tickets in my queue regarding the problem since before the outage(s) today, so I haven’t bothered entering a new ticket until this status post is out of the red. What I really liked about DH is the flexibility of their panel, SSH access, being able to install my own libraries/scripts under my user, all while still having everything else managed by DH. It’s like a VPS without the extra admin responsibility. Unfortunately, all of that is worthless if it’s down so much–I can tolerate the occasional blip, but a week of downtime is unacceptable. I’m shopping around for alternatives as we speak.
“It seems our network upgrade did not go as smoothly as we had hoped”
BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!! gee there’s a surprise.
DH…. wow, simply, wow. Just when I think things could get no worse, you prove me wrong.
You’re a bunch of real winners.
Brilliant.
http://mediatemple.net/ gridhosting. 1 year = $170 (or $144.50 if you Google for the 15% discount coupon). Well worth the additional couple of dollars each month for a far more reliable host that run their service professionally, unlike the DH scriptkiddies who seem to think it’s a joke when they fuck things up month after month.
@some guy: BlueHost (aka HostMonster) operate at a similar level to DreamHost : useless. They have other issues besides uptime too. I think it was them who want people to fax them their passport/drivers license just to have SSH access. Unreliable. You’re not doing yourself any favors moving there, trust me, I tried it.
“It seems our network upgrade did not go as smoothly as we had hoped”
Translation: Hey guess what? We’ve been playing with the servers again! Prepare for extended downtime - and by extended, we mean even more than usual, which we think is pretty damn impressive, because I mean seriously, what other hosting service can keep their clients’ sites down for weeks on end and then crack jokes about it, while you dumbass plebs tell us what a great job we’re doing, AND pay us for it. HAHAHAHA wow you people are stupid. You know we sometimes take the servers down for no reason at all, and have bets on what percentage of posts here will be telling us how great we are. We LOVE to mock you idiots, really, but I digress..
Is anyone aware of a more reliable host that offers SSH as well as video conversion programs (FFMPEG, MEncoder, etc) preinstalled. I’m willing to pay more if i can avoid the downtime. It’s really bad for business… MY business.
after so many times of saying i would, finally i’m gone from this
My site is faster than yesterday but it’s still nowhere near running at 100% speed
I’d say more like 50-60% hope this helps.
Same, it was close to down hours ago, a bit better now, but uploading trough FTP is still not do-able.
Seeing some really weird stuff here. Ik hope these mtr outputs will help you:

I wonder if you actually have a test environment that mirrors at least part of your production environment. A DTAP street (Development, Test, Acceptance, Production) is the best weapon against these kind of mishaps. I’m very happy with dreamhost support as the service is most excellent however, the downtime over the past years is starting to register and I’m getting very concerned about running an actual business hosted at dreamhost.
Please update us on what steps you will implement to limit downtime to an absolute minimum, leaving nothing to chance.
Know that without assurance of dreamhost taking serious steps to resolve the issue of downtime after implementing change (where most of your downtime seems have its roots) I, and I assume many others, will certainly think twice about pointing new customers towards dreamhost…..
A shame really
@JR: These kinds of network problems tend to be *VERY* hard to diagnose. From what I’m seeing, the problem is somewhere inside the GLBX network, but since I only see one side of the connection that’s just a guess.
I agree with the previous post. I dont want to diss on DH but something has to be done to stop the regularity of these problems. I dont want to but im thinking about moving on Sorry DH
peace out
I agree with JR i mean
bit slow to get that one in
Slow
Yup, I can confirm it has gotten much worse again, site uncontactable, cp uncontactable. Everything… as bad as it ever has been…
SORT IT OUT AND IF YOU CAN NOT SORT IT OUT EMPLOY SOMEONE WHO CAN!!
Time to look for a new host me thinks, I wonder if nightmarehost.com is available? seems more fitting…
Still very slow, to the point that my website has been almost impossible to reach for the past hours. I’m connecting from the Netherlands, and I see some weird stuff in the traceroutes as well; there seems to be some packet loss after the Global Crossing (GBLX) router.

I love the service you guys give, but this slag and downtime is killing my sites just as I am building a customer base. Please alleviate some of these slow lag (slag) problems.
I too would be willing to pay more for the service if you could minimize these problems.
Thanks!

At least my site is coming up after about 35 seconds, but the rest doesn’t for about 70 seconds. It is just a blog…
Hopefully you guys will have it sorted out by morning when people start getting back online.
My father used to say, “Son, it doesn’t really matter how much you get paid, always do your very best work.”
Just words of encouragement(sp?)

was wondering why my analtyics were way down today…
yikes, my sites are not connecting
working fine last night, not they just spin forever.
I’ve been trying to get into my websites but they either will not load, or take absolutely forever and never really finish loading - seems to be a hit or miss as to if or when it will work. It’s also been very sporadic trying to check my email using Outlook….. sometimes it works, and sometimes it fails.
I would have just posted something more officially, but I can’t access the webpanel either.
I’ve tried a few other webhosts here and there, but I’m happiest with Dreamhost. Downtime is to be expected I know, but it’s never fun when it happens. Hope you can get it sorted out soon!
Thanks!

Deblume is still running slowly but seems to be up… ish.
Not too worried as I know you’re doing all you can to resolve the issues!
@Suthernreb
your sites are loading fine within 4 seconds from Belgium!
website are still very slow and takes ages to load
Just curios - can someone give me feedback on how this site is loading please http://www.v4peru.com
Im in Australia and i want to know if its faster in other countrys. Im happy to do the same for anyone.
Thankyou
Dreamhost employees aren’t even second string IT admins. It’s ridiculous that we’re experiencing this severe of an outage for such a length of time. Completely unacceptable. Oh, and my server’s load averages are through the roof. In fact, this is the highest I’ve ever seen.

my site is up, i dint notice any downtime ![]()
but am unable to use http://FTP.
Superadmin

seems like a plane crashed on the server farm..
at today my site is still VERY slow
when will you fix this problem?
@Superadmin Your site is not loading in Australia
@Superadmin it’s loading now but that could change - i hope it dosent for your case but my sites were working and not working and not - its not garantueed at the moment
@john ur right, many sites are down and WP is unaccessable
What is wrong with you morons? People learn pretty fast. If you stick your finger in an outlet and get shocked, you don’t do it again after that experience. You guys on the other hand… “gee, removing this provider from our aggregate solves our problems… we can’t have that… let’s plug it back in!” Unbelievable.
Losing money for 11 hours is way too much… How much… 30USD? 50USD? 100USD? Can’t tell you exactly but it does affect everything at the end of the month.
I panic if my site is down for 5 seconds when I mess with the code, you can imagine how does it feel to have a site down for hours and can’t do anything about it!!
And I’m on Dreamhost PS!
Once again I’ll wait… and prepare to receive hundreds of complains from my registered members.
Oh well, that’s life on Dreamhost web hosting I must say.
@Dusgruntled customer
Call us morons? who? all of us? the complainers? the calm guys? which ones exactly? i am just trying to communicate whats going on over at my end.
I dont understand your comment either. Do you mean that Dreamhost will fix this and it wont happen again? is that your powerpoint thing you are talking about?
peace
sites loading faster now
As having been IT Manager myself I understand it is very difficult for any company to move towards a position where downtime can be prevented as much as technically possible by implementing procedures and systems such as a DTAP street, but I do emplore Dreamhost to seriously sit down after fixing this incident and look at the lessons learned and implement those to prevent this from happening again…
But 0 downtime is almost impossible as dreamhost depends on services that they have little to no control over. All they can do is adopt ideas like BS7799 (ISO27001) which help you deal with getting your systems back up when something goes wrong.
For those that complain about losing $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ I cant but wonder why you are hosting with dreamhost? Get your own server and put it at a host that doesn’t handle 100000s over customers. It will be more expensive, but worth it.
Dreamhost is an excellent hosting company for the small and medium sites and perhaps in time will be able to handle the really huge sites and put these days of downtime and often slow response times of sites behind them. I’m looking forward to that day as I haven’t ever come across a hosting company with such great and speedy support!
My site is loading much faster than before…so far I am happy with the additional bandwidth! Bumps in the road should be expected with any major change.
Note to the reality-based, in light of some of the posts here, especially the ones advertising other hosting companies:
Anyone can subscribe to the RSS feed here. Even other hosting companies and trolls.
Just sayin’…
@JR
Yes, I do complain about losing money!
No one from dreamhost ever told me that I need to move to another host becouse they cannot handle my sites.
And as far as I keep paying for my hosting, it’s their duty to keep my (virtual) Private Server up and running, as well as yours and all others, including shared accounts.
@john your site is loading fine… it takes 5 seconds or less..
there is not a problem country specific but with BGP routing. Some providers have other routes so are working fine, others are using a route which seems to cause problems. The problem is with global crossing.
I agree with CJ (August 15th, 2008 at 4:29 pm): “DreamHost may have problems, but…they are a good host due to their transparency.” Other accessibly-priced hosting providers have the same problems - honest, they really do! - but they don’t publish a blog, open for the entire WWW to read _whether_customers_or_not_, describing virtually every service interruption that occurs. It only _seems_ as if DreamHost has more problems because of that near-total transparency.
No, I don’t live in a Zen world, totally blissed out even while my email is down, or I can’t ftp some files, or my blog is inaccessible; I get just as frustrated as everyone else. But I also understand that Web hosting is built on rather complex hardware, running rather complex software, and it’s not possible to provide five nines of service at the pricepoint DreamHost offers. The price:service ratio at DreamHost works for me, for all my sites; if I were running transaction-heavy sites where uptime really counts, I’d be hosting them with a much higher-end provider - and I’d be paying accordingly!
Thanks, DreamHost, for the “open vest.” (And thanks, Josh, for your newsletters; they always leave me ROFLing and scaring the he** outta my cat!)
Ok, looking for help at http://www.playsovereignty.com
Was up yesterday, now I’ve been down all morning. Please contact me!
@JD
I understand that losing money is of concern and for some of us a few USD means a lot more than to others.
I personally worry about potential customers or members that may not come back.
But then again Dreamhost’s record shows some considerable downtime over the years, although I’m certain that in % it isn’t much at all.
In the end my point is simply that there must be others out there that have less downtime and might be more suitable for your site?
They’ll cost more and perhaps the support and control panel isnt as great as dreamhost’s, but your site will be up and losses less.
Anyway, I’m happy to say that my sites are fine again
My site is still running very slow, takes more than 10seconds to even connect to the site
Things are still very slow, taking about 10-15 seconds to generate a dynamic page in Wordpress.
The ftp Server’s still timing out.
All my sites have been slow or down this morning. Can’t surf em. Can’t build em.
Loading…………….Loading…………….Beuller……………..Beuller……………….

I’m surprised I’m even able to view those stats!
You guys are lucky - my site doesn’t even show up
None of my sites and ftp are working either…

Okay, so my site is still slow, but it is working.
Sometimes I have to submit a query twice to get it to load, but it does load.
Better than last night anyway.
Thanks for your continued work in this matter DreamHost Staff. I know you will solve it and make sure that it happens as little in the future as possible!

Okay, I spoke too soon. They just went completely down again….
wah. wah. wah. i hate dreamhost. i’m gonna blog here and complain abuot how DH sucks ass! that’s it, i’m done with DH. i’m going elsewhere. i can’t update my blog. how can i tell the world that i’m right and you’re wrong if i can’t blog it? wah. wah. wah.. i have sand in my clit. wah…
Completely offline, and I had users on going through my content. Man….

Well after more than 24h the problem is still continuing and seeming not getting better. We had problems with sftp etc since a few days before the issues surfaced on this site and when I look at statistics I see that almost nobody could access the site throughout the whole day.
We’re slowly getting very concerned - as this is not the first brown-out we experience - if we have taken the right choice when upgrading our servers with dreamhost.
Guys, get it sorted and get it sorted quickly.
still having problems, getting a packet drop of anywhere from 15% up to 40% while pinging my site.
I’m actually happy. It means I haven’t broken anything at my end. Yippee!
I’m sure it will be resolved soon - I’m very pleased with DH as a host.
Dr. S.
Not trying to rub it in anyone’s face or anything, but for the sake of an accurate picture when DH reads to see how things are, mine are still running beautifully. I did see some packet loss last night (about 20 something hours ago), and tracerts time out just before entering LAX right now, but the sites are fine in the real world, as near as I can tell… I just watched a streamed .flv and it played perfectly as well.
Well I’m glad the rest of you are happy! My website launched just last week and is totally dependent on user-uploaded submissions. And for the past 24+ hours that’s been impossible. Oh well for first impressions.
My sites have been doing a lot better in the past 5 or 6 hours. Just wanted to let everyone know.

Our site is up, but the ftp is down!
Mine is completely down now… Sigh
can u tell us how long will it take?
My websites are working @ 10% for 10 days!
Our site is down.. Mail also not working.. In a difficult situation
My site http://www.dailymobile.se seems to work now
finally
All my sites are slow now, which means I’m losing visitors, search engine crawls, and money.
I’m trying to find another hosting provider ASAP.
Errr…
They didn’t even provide an update all day yesterday.
well as i toldyou earlier i dint face any problem
, but the ftp is a bit slow but not dumb.
i expected a update from DH team but none responded from many hours leaving many sites down
you can just see my site at it loads normally http://www.supertelugu.com
FTP upload is slow
WWW is slow
This has been going on for more than a few days. I signed up with DH after my past host decided he didn’t want to run a box anymore. I’d be better off right now hosting this on my cable modem. Sickening to know that I pay for this.
Sites are back up (sorta). Can’t FTP/upload to save my life though via ANY medium, which is a problem since I kind of need to upgrade my sites this weekend …. what with the CRITICAL SECURITY UPDATE for Joomla and all guys. If I have to rip everything down and start fresh DH guys, I am not going to be happy k?
Guys, how long does it take to fix these network / router issues?? Two days plus, is a disaster. Please you MUST have better response times…!! This is a killer headache, some people may even have a lower opinion.!
Actually, my site has been performing OK from all locations I checked since yesterday; and I’m now getting > 10 Mbps of bandwidth to and from my site from the EU, which is a lot better than before the network upgrade. Thanks DH!
PS: I don’t get the complaints about load… My sites are on Bruno, and the load on that server tends to be between 10 and 20 ALL DAY.
My site just back to normal: http://www.bpovia.com/
The speed is slow.
My site is very slow again since morning. takes more than 20 sec to enter the site :/ should t this problem be solved by this time? it has gone 2 days now!
My site is down: http://phollaio.com
Does Dreamhost always have these kind of problems? Since i moved to dreamhost for 2.5weeks ago my site has been up and running only 4-5 days. the rest of the time my site has been very slow to not even responding. No good first impression
And this is why I am moving to MediaTemple http://www.mediatemple.net by the time my service needs to get renewed. Good riddance!
FIX THIS!!!!!!!!!!
This is total BS! My site has been down for hours now. I thought you guys were supposed to be dependable?!?!
Hm. No update in 3 days. Must be busy coming up with some good jokes for this one.
Oh well, I don’t care anymore. I’m just waiting for my new server to be provisioned.
Wow, for all you dumbasses who complain “people depend on me”… why are you using a webhost that oversubscribes its customers and only charges $6/month? If you really had people who depended on you, you would pay more for a decent webhost. You get what you pay for. If everyone left Dreamhost en masse, we could put them out of business and wipe yet another crappy webhost off the map. Jump off the sinking ship while you still can!
-A former Dreamhost customer.
Can we get an update on this please? 3 days with no resolution and no updates is getting a bit much.
Thank God!
… at why all these ex-DreamHost users keep coming back and whining.
I imagine that it is because they regret the decision to have left DreamHost and need the pseudo-psychological reinforcement of ranting away and not admitting their mistake.
If they truly were happy with their new service, there would be absolutely no need for them to constantly monitor what is occurring at DreamHost and then posting their anger.
Have you left? Then stay away! Have left but keep posting, then quit whining and re-join DreamHost.
Finally leaving. For the past 3 weeks my sites has been up about 50% of the time. Kept contacting support about 5 times a day. Always the server needed rebooting. Pattern there? Shutdown restart? Got old. Good luck everyone
P.S. not leaving because I was losing tons of money…lol
Just got tired of the sites being down and no email.
my site is now slower than ever
http://www.dailymobile.se
I’m still experiencing slowness in the website. had submitted a few messages to this issue but things are not resolve yet.
sites slow or down…
It’s not fixed guys. My site is just as slow as it ever was.
My sites are slow too…
Everything is falling on its face again, and again the panel is inaccessible so we can’t report it. Dreamhoststatus.com is up and running as usual though, can I please get my user accounts moved to that box??
Well, They apparently “moved me to a new instance of Apache” and my site is much faster now. Apparently someone on gotti is using an incredible amount of the allocated bw. Transfers from my site were 40KB/sec at best. I am now hovering around 550KB/sec now. If this lasts more than a week I’ll be happy.
Yay!
There seems to be some irate folks for whom everything is NOT fixed; I hope DH will deal with their issues pronto. For me, FTP works, site seems fast. From someone with a background in net administration, great job guys!
Next time, let’s have a few more updates during the process, ‘k?
my sites were down this morning again in Australia - http://www.mediarama.com.au
they seem to be fine now. I did notice that gotti has some bandwidth issues or something?.

Does anyone on gotti have similar problems? and do you think if we get switched to another server it will fix this?
Im seriuosly about to move on now, but i paid in advance! and thats a bummer?
Any advice from experts please?
Im waiting for DH to reply to my emails. . . . . . .
I finally switched to MediaTemple almost a year ago due to problems such as these. I can’t tell you how pleased I am. Not only do they own up to their problems, (Dreamhost is no exception in this), they have so incredibly much less of these problems that I laugh at myself for thinking Dreamhost was a “Bargain”. I pay $200/year, and I get rock solid performance, great interface, 24/7 phone support, knowledgeable support teams, and a lot less bull crap. Trust me, if you have anything worth keeping online, then you need to abandon Dreamhost and jump to someone, ANYONE, who really cares about the quality of service and system performance. In my experience, that just wasn’t Dreamhost.
my site is VERY slow and tracert results are terrible…
Still we are unable to login into our web panel…..
Should have backup for these issues….
don’t go to bluehost. it’s terrible there, they hidding their TOS you must chat with them to see thier TOS which is a must.
there’s hidding rules say max cpu usage and max files can hosted in that host. some downtime too but not much. f**cking customer support, talking crap and debasing.
i would to go to dreamhost instead and took PS.
but i don’t know is this dreamhost worth it? since it wast to many angry people with this hosting.
thanks
