Please please please fix it up quick!
An email stating that wouldn’t have been bad saving me a lot of time of searching everything under the sun to find out why….
Hope ya’ll are backup soon…
man, it’s just one thing after another, eh?
This is just a scandal.
We pay for an extremely poor service and for daily failures.
It’s time to start thinking about changing host.
Painful! Mail is down, websites are down… My clients aren’t happy with me at all…
They are changing fileservers as well, sort of gaming?
I’ll say.
How hard is it to switch domain names from one site to another?
If I just bought my domain name through dreamhost and I don’t host my server here, should I be down as well?
Help!
I think we’ll stay with DH. We get a great running PS at a killer price, outstanding and responsive customer service and The Musings of Josh. Whadda deal.
On the other hand, we also understand that, as the French say, “Merde Happens” and that when it does, DH has all hands on deck at battle stations.
Remember, sports fans: if you want five nines, you have to pay for five nines. Five nines tend to cost one metric mega-shitload.
“Help” -> Keep in mind you need to allow sufficient time for the DNS records of your new domain to propagate… thats normal.
Thanks KingJ…
I’m not sure how long it will take for them to respond to the transfer request if I just put it in place now…
Am I looking today or… on Monday… or…
I do appreciate the insight and help though!
Is it an existing domain you transfered to DH? or new registered through DH? For an existing domain, 2 parties are involved,so it depends on when the transfer ticket has been issued, and when its been accepted on the other end. You could be looking at 48hours.
BTW my sites are backup so this issue seems to be resolved.. for me at least
Thx DH!
It was originally registered at DH I believe (was not my site at the time) and I just followed DH’s instructions on how to switch domain name host to another registrar.
My site is still not up, so you are lucky!
An email stating that wouldn’t have been bad saving me a lot of time of searching everything under the sun to find out why….
So the last place you looked for a status update is the only place you ever need to look? Where did you check first? Ebay? Amazon? Newegg?
Who would have thought you’d end up finding the status at dreamhostSTATUS.com? That’s just crazy!
Yeah, too bad there’s no way to stay on top of things. Hmm… I wonder what all those RSS links are for?
So this is fixed in a few hours whereas my site has been down or slow for the last week? Give me a break. I’m really starting to regret switching to dreamhost.
Hardware failures are DreamHost’s fault, because they design and make the hardware. Sheesh.
Instead of saying you are considering to move to a new host, move to a new one already. We’re sick of you complaining. DreamHost offers great service for the price, you can expect occasional downtime.
Honestly, I moved around many web hosts and they all claim to be 99.99% uptime yet no single one of them proved it to me. so moving to another host is more like a hit and miss issue.
I searched for the best all round host which turned up to be ixwebhosting.com I signed up and it is not better than anyone else. Sitground.com has issues as well, webmasters.com not any better. So it is a common issue with all hosts. The technology is not perfect. with dream host we at least get fast response and funny people.
Maybe I’ll squeeze hard and try RackSpace but I’ll keep my DreamHost account for the lighter jobs, even though I don’t think RackSpace is extremely better but I’m in the business of trying things for my customers’ benefit.

God no.
