File Server Upgrades 2008-08-25
Posted (August 25th, 2008 at 8:04 pm PST) by PatrickTonight we will be upgrading rizzo and bambi! The upgrade of rizzo will begin around 10pm PST. Bambi will follow as soon as rizzo has completed. Check back here for updates!

rizzo is upgraded. Unfortunately we got a late start with this one. The upgrade process didn’t start until around midnight. We’ll be upgrading bambi in about 15 minutes.

bambi is back up and serving files. The upgrade went well, but unfortunately it’s mirror broke, which means it will need to go down again at some point to be fixed. This will likely happen tonight. There will be a new status post with more information when appropriate.

They did say that the mirror on the server broke. If it had been having latent issues, then new/updated files might have only been written to one disk/section of the mirror. The other would not have been updated with the same info, and as a result contains the old files. Since the mirror is broken, the 2 (or however many they have) are no longer in sync. So you are probably getting served old files from the disk that was not being updated. Just another good reason to keep your website backed up somewhere, especially if it contains important stuff. (I’ve got mine backed up to a local disk for safe keeping.)
MY site is still down. This is second time that happedned based on those file server upgrades…
I wonder if this will continue or not…

I can many of my new files are gone, many files are old back ups from january, what is going on there ?
