network issues
Posted (October 22nd, 2008 at 10:18 am PST) by kitchenwe are currently experiencing some connectivity issues at our primary facility, which is causing access issues for all of our customers. We have our network folks working on it and expect a resolution soon.
We will post updates as things progress, and thank you for your patience while we resolve this matter.
Update 1:50pm: We ran into a Cisco bug which was causing the problems. We opened a bug report with them, and waiting to hear back on how to proceed. Please check back for further updates.

One of my websites was down earlier today for about an hour. It wasn’t up very long again before it went back down, this time with this posting in the status blog.
Curiously though, it’s only affecting one of my sites, all my sub-domains are working fine.
October 22nd, 2008 at 1:09 pm
My blogs are down since MySql servers down; blogs only show mysql errors.
October 22nd, 2008 at 1:24 pm
I also can’t access http://www.dreamhost.com
October 22nd, 2008 at 1:24 pm
My sites have been down for hours now. Would love an update. It’s been 3 hours since this entry was posted.
October 22nd, 2008 at 1:32 pm
I can access http://www.dreamhost.com, and I’m not even sure if my problem is related to this issue. As I said, I’m only having problems with one hostname.
I opened a ticket earlier before this entry was posted, and they said it was an issue with the apache process serving that hostname. I don’t know if I should just wait for the problem to be resolved or have them continue troubleshooting my issue.
October 22nd, 2008 at 1:45 pm
How can I open a ticket? It’s only through the dreamhost panel yes? I can’t access that either. sad sad day
October 22nd, 2008 at 1:58 pm
I just received a response back from Kacy. It appears my problem isn’t related to this issue.
I’ve only been with DreamHost for almost 3 weeks. I just want to take a moment to say that I’m very impressed with DreamHost’s support staff. They seem to be very open about the actual problem, not a quick and vague “I had to restart the server”. Kudos to Kacy & Dreamhost!
October 22nd, 2008 at 2:03 pm
how do you contact Kacy?
October 22nd, 2008 at 2:09 pm
I opened a support ticket through the panel. She was the one who replied.
October 22nd, 2008 at 2:16 pm
I can’t access the panel :-(((( ughhhhh!!!!!!
October 22nd, 2008 at 2:18 pm
email… emaill….. argh… i understand you are working on it… but… c’mon.
October 22nd, 2008 at 2:20 pm
@Shadra - http://www.dreamhost.com and panel.dreamhost.com are NOT down. If you can’t access them, then you probably have an issue unrelated to DH.
I’m constantly amazed by the number of DH users who seem to think that any problem they have is automatically DH’s fault. The panel is very, very, very rarely down.

My e-mail was down first. I keep getting an error message:
A communication error occurred: “No route to host”
The Web Server may be down, too busy, or experiencing other problems preventing it from responding to requests. You may wish to try again at a later time.
I tried accessing the panel and the network keeps timing out. I don’t know what else to think and I can’t access the panel for support. Everything was fine this morning.

ok.. this is B.S…. a whole f’ing business day without email.. everyone on my staff needs this.
October 22nd, 2008 at 9:09 pm
If your business can’t handle a day of downtime, then you shouldn’t be using shared hosting to begin with :]

October 23rd, 2008 at 1:16 am
Let me ask you something. What happens if a search engine crawler comes to my site and sees the following error? All my SERP results will be vanished???????? All my SEO efforts will be gone???
Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Unknown MySQL server host ‘my-sqlserver.dreamhosters.com’ (1) in /home/.nicky/my–site/my–domain.com/db.php on line 15

(Alp Says—Hey all of my sites are down due to inaccessable MySql servers. My loss is more than $1000. A total disaster for me!! )
If you (doubt it)making that kind of money you should spend a little on a dedicated server.

The panel and mail clusters are offline for me, but my web sites are still online.
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:43 am
My site and email are both down!
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:25 am
Hmm… must be wednesday… oh wait spilling into Thursday now… great… I’ll be moving when I come back from holidays. DreamHost, I’ve loved you for many years, but you are slipping and really letting yourself go.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:58 am
Slow again. We have great difficulty running our online store. We are always looking for a new host. Someday we will leave because of all the frequent speed issues.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:16 am
Hey Dreamhost team! Are you just sitting waiting for the Cisco guys??? My sites are down for more than 24 hours. This is UNacceptable. I havent seen such a thing even with the most crappy hosting companies. This should be a joke.
Please update the status of outage. Tell us something!
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:25 am
Only 40 responses so far.
That is not to much, is it?
Dreamhost: The worst thing for this outages (and the ones before) is that you
don’t give information. There are very patient people out there. And
all they ask is a status update once in a while.
Don’t make a mess by ignoring us. Update the status regularly. Please.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:30 am
We’re down, too. So is this a pretty common thing for DreamHost? Cause I don’t mind an occasional outage, but I would expect it to be dealt with in a professional manner if they want to keep any business. Why have there been no updates?
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:31 am
Our website is down for so long.
Many problems with dreamhost. Network problems, databases problems, general server problems.
I’m sure they do their best but as it seems it’s not enough.
First time I see so many problems in a provider, and I’m very disappointed.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:36 am
website was down briefly yesterday, but then worked fine for rest of day. Now, however, it’s been down for much longer….when will problem be fixed???? Update please?!
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:51 am
server seems to be working fine again…
October 23rd, 2008 at 12:48 pm
My site’s down. Been down all day so far as I can tell.
October 23rd, 2008 at 1:53 pm
I’ve been having 500-level server errors all day, is this the cause?
October 23rd, 2008 at 2:51 pm
again with mistakes… at least dont chage the monthly fee.. this better not become a issue when you had to migrate lovejoy and other servers..
October 23rd, 2008 at 6:49 pm
For the second time in two weeks, I want to work on my site and can’t because something is screwy on the Dreamhost side. Lousy.
October 24th, 2008 at 9:57 am
I’m experiencing timeout errors on my website, is this still occuring?
