DreamHost PS problem on spacey.
Posted (October 27th, 2008 at 3:15 am PST) by HutchDreamHost PS customers in the spacey cluster may see a bit of downtime. A hard drive failed on one of the DreamHost PS hosts (#22) and that host is moving to new hardware. Sorry for the interruption.

Any news? My site has been down for 15 hours…

This is completely unacceptable to have our website down for any period of time, period. Do you have backup servers running? Why is the site down for any time? Please notify us of status and what we can do to make sure this NEVER happens again.

@Ronnie Peters - If your site is so critical, why did you sign up for hosting with a company that does not have an uptime guarantee?
Of course they don’t have backup servers - there are THOUSANDS of servers in DH’s network. Having backup servers for all of them would be prohibitively expensive for any organization.
Judging from the URL of your site, no one is going to die if it’s down for a few hours. Or a few days. Downtime is a fact of life in information technology. Get over it.

How can you tell what server cluster your site is on? I can’t find anything in my control panel that will tell me that, and my site is down (although it was up an hour or so ago).

Hi,
My site (www.ourdrl.com) has been down for about an hour. Is it because of this?
Thanks.

@Lori - If you drop down the “account status” tab on the panel, the server marked “Your Email Server” is the name of your cluster.

@Jack - the site you linked in your comment is working for me.

Any updates? My three daily visitors will be very sad when they can’t access my website.

I’m not on Spacey, but I am suffering from downtime as of this afternoon. Any notes on other possible slow downs and offline-ness for other clusters?

My server is listed as “charybdis”. My website has been down for a few hours. Is that in the spacey cluster??
thanks!

My site is down and was wondering if it was because of this notice?

Dear DH
I get the feeling there is a cumulating crash going on … just like Wall Street. My site seems to have been down since early in the weekend … but I cannot access the site to get a definitive picture of what went wrong and when

Interestingly enough, I’ve been facing similar issues where php itself is corrupted on my PS too. Nothing is parsing right. Crazy stuff. And it happened around early this weekend, same as Peter’s. As far as I can tell, it’s effecting one single domain of mine, but I’m not definite why either. Oh well… guess I should just wait for the support ticket.

Well my experiment with Dreamhost is about to end. I’ll be moving to a new provider asap.

Our site is not down, but we cannot access the FTP server. Any idea when they will be back up?

My site is hosted on ugh and thats down also. Methinks more than just one server popped its cloggs today.

Our site 365Halloween.com is on a PS and in the ‘frisky’ Email Server/Cluster. We were running great until this morning, now we get 500 errors and very slow site.
It’s only Halloween for a few more days … Com’on servers, hang in there.
We see a huge spike in Memory usage (via PS panel) from usual 150-200 MB with a dip to 90 MB @ 3am and then jumped to 1126 MB at 9am .. it’s back down to 456 MB at 1pm.
Our site is still slow with random 500 errors.
Please save our ship!

Supposedly I’m not on this cluster, but all my sites have been down for several hours.
This is getting very old.

To brasscrest:
If you think that a couple of days with one web down is normal and it doesn´t matter ok… but PLEASE, do not try to convince me, convince them to Google for not penalizing our webs. For me, THATS THE MAIN PROBLEM!!!
