DreamHost and Panel Sluggish

Update 1:33 PM PDT: The panel and DreamHost site should be back up but we’re still experiencing issues with the sign up pages. More to come…
Update 5:25 PM PDT: We’re still seeing a lot of traffic going toward our signup page. This in turn is still causing the web panel, and some other features (like announcement list signups, and signups themselves!) to have spotty access. We’re doing everything we can to alleviate this, and apologize for the problems! We’ll keep you updated!

Yes, totally down. Not that I’d expect you guys to know the difference. Or is that what sluggish means at Nightmare Host?

Oh, and I should perhaps also add that our actual websites are down as well. It’s interesting to note that problems with the DreamHost site are noticed before problems with our own sites.

I was just trying to sign up for a new hosting account, and the server stopped responding ( https://signup.dreamhost.com/ ). Not a great sign, as this is my first experience with DreamHost, and I can’t even sign up for a hosting account…
It looks completely down to me as well. All my sites on Wilshire are down as well.
My sites are all down as well. It’s bad enough I have to work on a Saturday.
Panel is down for me, too. My websites are working fine, though.
To be perfectly fair, my Dreamhost’d sites are still available, while my beloved panel.dreamhost.com is not.

My site is definitely down - I suspect that the storm just hasn’t yet reached those sites which are still up…
With the exception of some of my sites down. I think we have a hungover router that had too much to drink at the New Year’s Party.

My sites, and e-mail are down, this is bad. Also try sending an e-mail from your gmail to your domain e-mail, it bounces back, not good.
Panel is down for me but email and my websites are up and running.

My sites are back up (and my sftp into the server) so it looks like they’re making progress.

it’s most likely due to the huge sale they had on hosting today… 2 yrs for $10.47 TOTAL … and they got flooded w/new users & new domain registrations…

I’m sorry to report that my site is also down… sort of. Moran is reporting normal load on SSH, but all my sites are sluggish and have been since noon (12PM GMT)… And strangly, my blog to which I was trying to post on has gone down completely, but not in the way I would expect. It is reporting connection refused, even from on the server itself. But only to that one host… Network / Firewall errors maybe?
DNS is slow to resolve, and I mean VERY slow =/….
Panel is starting to work now, although it has been down to me for a good hour a two now, and its been hell to try and report since that is the place to do it.
Can we get a raincheck for that super coupon (code 202)?

some of my sites work on and off, mysql is down, email works, panel works every once in a while..
Dreamhost seems to try controlling the internet by making sure noone gets too many visitors
and of course, no reply to my support messages ..

I managed to login and do what i neede to do (create a sub domain). The panel created it but now the subdomain doesn’s load… and also, the panel doesn’t load anymore.

My websites are working but the main website and control panel are down! This is as of 5:40pm EST. I just signed up for hosting today and this happens, this doesn’t bode well, I tell you what.
I’m thinking this has something to do with all the promotions going on; lots of extra traffic and massive sign-ups? My panel and stuff has been off and on all day. I’ve been able to add my domains, but a couple I haven’t been able to do stuff with. I appreciate that you guys are working on it.

I’m not complaining, I don’t need http://www.dreamhost.com to be up, I just wanted to counteract all the idjiots on this blog.
Makes you wonder since the host status page as well as the control panel pages are up. I hope it will come back up before there offer is over.

My site is now directing to someone else’s domain. :\ FTP and databases are all fine though.

They changed the deal. It’s only 90% off now instead of 95%. Total was $21.48 :/ Sucks but it’s still a decent deal. less then a dollar a month.

Oh, by the way guys, try lowering the HTTP session timeout from 3600 seconds to something a little more reasonable. Your connections table is probably getting saturated.

My website has been up and down throughout the day. HUGE embarrassment for me as we just moved to DREAMHOST based on my recommendation. Now one can’t even login to the Panel to report the outage. I am getting Internal server errors all day. When we complain we are constantly reminded we are on shared hosting…almost as if to say “our shared hosting comes with such crappy service”….

This whole dame thing is disturbing. From the multiple discount codes floating around to the site being unavailable. If I had only known this 12 hours earlier.

To ADAM above - i got my payment email and it contained my ftp username info.
Panel still down though - clearly the site is hammered with 202 signups.

Hm… the Dreamhost panel application is still down (was briefly up three hours ago but is down again).
Ive made it too after a lot of times. Im waiting for the mail with my personal data etc.

I was close to registering with Dreamhost, even with the 202 code I don’t think I could justify using your services - you seem to have a terrible history and the failure to accept signups today shows you do not know how to run a hosting company.
I will be sticking with HostRocket - Never had downtime in my 4 years with them.
Dupola, do you run on VPS? I have gotten that error before and would either reboot my server to get it back going or up my resources… but I guess you will have to wait until the panel is up again first :p

Last month,my sites downed too many times,about 3 hours each time.
This time,before I got 500 Error,I find my sites are very and very slow,just a while,I got it…Almost for 15 hours.
I see someone here has also got 500 Error…
But the Support Team said that my scripts led this 500 Error…I don’t know how to exchange with theme,the doesn’t pay attention to the Shared customers any more.
I’ve wasted the whole night to this fucked issue.

well if your script caused the error, fix your script. support is not required to help you program your site. only maintane the hardware.

I’ve had 500 Internal Server Errors for about four days now. I’m pretty patient about these sort of things, but now i’m starting to get a bit annoyed. First I got a reply from support saying the fileservers were problematic resulting moving users from NFS (network file system) to local storage system (could not provide ETA on move), but not too long ago I get another reply from support saying that I need to upgrade to a private server?? This doesn’t make any sense.
It started with trying to login to the squirrel/webmail for me… Then I couldn’t log into the webpanel… Then I ended up here…
About 15min. later I was able to login to the webpanel… Change my passwords for the squirrel mail and was good to go. (If that helps anyone who can’t get to their E-mail ;~)

I had it for more than 10 hours.The support my site caused the error…I never change anything these days.
Something is very wrong on the servers. The system hosting my site has a load average in excess of 3.0 My Drupal site keeps spitting out “Page Not Found” errors (for admin pages that definitely exist). The dreamhost Panel is so slow to respond as to be unusable and now is closing TCP connections abnormally.
Why isn’t anyone recognizing that the “special offer” is probably the CAUSE of all this? It was on http://lifehacker.com which has got to have caused a panic since so many of you are trying to sign up! Aaaaarggh

Invalid for my region? I AM AN AMERICAN DAMN IT. Screw you and your “promo” waiting all this time to try to be able to have a host with all your stupid errors, just to be told that because I am not in the USA at the moment, I am not allowed.
I became a customer of dreamhost over the holidays (Christmas Eve), in lieu of the bad reviews I had seen regarding uptime, problems, et al. I can’t believe it only took a week and the problems have rendered accessing the panel to register new domains useless.
Dreamhost, get your act together or you will lose this new customer by Christmas 2009.
Oh wait, I am within my trial period and can cancel today. Nevermind, I will be taking my business elsewhere once I can login and cancel my account.
I’ve been a customer of DH for the last 5 years now. I’m the one defending DH to my co-workers who want to ditch them during various glitches as they’ve grown. We switched to a DH private server a year ago but still have problems with the shared (regular) DH MySQL service. For me, the last straw is a combination of DH changing yet more Ruby stuff on me that I don’t want changed, plus the service panel is still down as of 11pm Eastern time, 8pm PST. — And no update from DH since 5.30 PST. One of my new resolutions for 09 will be to move everything but our blog off of them. Oh by the way DH, you’re on PST, not PDT!
So, I have my in-laws sign up for a site for their business. After 3 hours, I am finally able to get them signed up. Excited, I thought I would do the same for myself. I have spent almost 8 hours to get through and finally do. Then the price is different? What? And nobody can maintain their existing sites because you run a promotion? I understand that you are working hard at it and sometimes can get caught by surprise (Firefox 3 did with Download Day), but one would hope you wouldn’t harm your existing customers. I’m wondering if I made a bad decision.
Panel still down for me. As for the other complaints I see listed here, I run a Drupal multi-site instance, and have had very good uptime and speed. Overall, I am very happy and would recommend Dream Host…but I really could use access to my Web Panel right about now

First the billing debacle where DreamHost randomly charged all their customers between $200 and $9000, now the signup debacle where DreamHost disappoints hundreds of thousands (or more) of potential customers by not being able to sign them up for a simple account. I admit that for a period of time I was trying to get in on the deal too, but methinks my failure to sign up may have saved me quite a few personal headache debacles from dealing with this company.
6:45 AM on the last day before I go back to the office. Dreamhost services (and some sites) are still intermittently slow - and I believe I am being charitable…
Must have been an incredible New Year’s party at Dreamhost - hopefully, the brain cells will begin to function and the problem will be REALLY cleared up. Soon. I hope…

In total the last 2 months my site has been inaccessible more times than not..
I just hope enough people know to research through and through the decision of going with a host. It is now coming to a stage that when it comes to shared hosting no one can beat GoDaddy.

When I emailed the other day, I was basically told my site was down because one of my sites consume too much resources, and was basically given a sales pitch to upgrade to dreamhost PS. Kind of insulting when the heaviest traffic I get is only 200 unique visitors in a day, which is next to nothing for a hosting provider to handle, not to mention when dreamhost’s own domains are down (maybe they should upgrade to DH PS too…)
Also I think DH is outsourcing support to India or some other non-english speaking company now. The last support email I got, there were over 5 instances of the word ‘too’ being misspelled as ‘to’, among a number of obvious things. Sign of a non-fluent speaker.

I’ve been getting Error 500 problems for about 10 hours.
Two tickets posted at 2pm EST and 5pm EST have not been answered.
I was able to pay using the 202 promo code but it said “make sure to click return to dreamhost” well once I did this the signup server was DEAD. I kept trying clicking the link until the server came back up but once it finally did come back up it did not recognize my return link. I’ve tried getting in contact with dreamhost but keep getting emails bounced back saying to use the support link in the panel (ughhhhh I don’t have a DH account).
No one has answered my tickets from 12 hours ago.

The server is still very erratic. Sometimes I’m able to login to my website, and sometimes it doesn’t work. Are you still having network issues?
I cannot log-in to panel… i have tried everything, evne had them resend password. No Luck… Keeps saying ERROR Username or Password Incorrect. And I have NO WAY of contacting DreamHost… because I can’t log in… can someone please help? Or is this because panel is down?
