Networking issues with MySQL servers
Posted (November 17th, 2009 at 10:48 am PST) by danwyWe’re currently experiencing some slow pings and packet loss to some of our MySQL servers in one of our server racks. We believe this is due to one of our links being saturated. Our networking team is working on adding more capacity to resolve these issues and hope to have things back to normal soon. We will update this status post when we have any more information regarding this issue.
Update – 8:30am (PST): Sorry for the delay in posting an update regarding this situation. It seems that things are a lot better now. Our network providers came out yesterday afternoon and added more bandwidth, which seemed to fix the immediate issues mentioned above. They are back this morning continuing to work on it and things do seem to be running a lot smoother already, so we’re hoping this is the end of this issue. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this caused you.

WOW, amazing, I am very happy now.
Me too, this is so cool, I am very excited too. Thanks DreamHost
Hey, does anyone know whether this affects email/webmail? Messages have disappeared, and now my clients are saying their emails are getting bounced.
My site is been down since last night too, nothing worked, all we got was error 404, page not found, database connection error, etc.
Nothing too biggy, some e-commerce sites and business pages.
For some reason I am HAPPY TOO. I LOVE DREAMHOST. THANK YOU SO SO MUCH.
DreamHost is amazing, my previous hosting company took a week or two to fix issues like this, these guys at DreamHost are the experts, it’s only talking two days to reboot a SQL Server. I am a big fan.
WOW, God Bless You! How is good, see the sites works fine! Good Job! I holpe continues… works fine!!! lol
Our websites are down too. Just get a message “Database Error: Unable to connect to the database:Could not connect to MySQL”. I couldn’t login to phpmyadmin either (#2013 – Lost connection to MySQL server at ‘reading authorization packet’, system error: 0). Hopefully it will be working again soon. Thanks for the status.
I wish I had a Ctrl+Alt+Del on my iPhone so I could reboot DreamHost Data Center everyday to make it work.
Amazing job guys, don’t rush. We all can wait a couple of more days. You guys take it easy.
BIG DREAMHOST FAN & LOYAL CUSTOMER SINCE 250 B.C.
Mi website its ok, but i have this message when try to connect to my SQL DATABASE.
“Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Lost connection to MySQL server at ‘reading authorization packet’, system error: 0″
please, help me!!
Thanks
THIS IS JUST TOO AMAZING.
I AM FULL OF JOY.
SUPER FANTASTIC HOSTING COMPANY.
I AM SPEECHLESS.
Sorry, this might not be a right place but I read somewhere that DreamHost is going out of business… can somebody here confirm please? I am looking to sign-up with them but I am a little afraid? Any suggestion?
@Rose: Just one word. RUN!
My website doesn’t load anymore…It was slow all day, and now nothing.
Mike, stop talking nonsense. But I’d like to hear about that DH is going out of business?!
I don’t know if it’s related but I don’t have access to my FTP server too…
A quick search indicates that the only reference to the phrase “Dreamhost going out of business” (at least according to the Almighty Google) is in this thread.
I am not receiving e-mails on Squirrel Mail. Is something wrong?
@Miles away: Excuse me? You call this nonsense? All my sites have been down for the last 48 hours. I have put in 4 urgent tickets with no response after like 24 hours and only about an hour a go the issue appeared in the dreamhost status page. You call this nonsense?
Unlike many of you here, I keep a good track of my sites. I monitor site uptime, response time, mail status, database check, etc.. on all my sites and I receive alerts on my phone wherever, whenever. Unlike many people I value my customers and visitors and I try to take responsibility for what I am offering.
If you are not doing any of the above or you think this is too much for you to understand or doesn’t make sense, then I would suggest you to go and get a $1.99/mo website for yourself where people don’t give a damn about their site uptime.
I will write about my experience with DH wherever possible.
After 4 days of VERY slow connections to my PS, I am happy to report that things are back to normal and zipping along.
I hope others are back to normal soon as well.
@Mike – Nice speech. The site you linked in your comment is working for me, so I guess not all your sites are down now.
The fact is, despite your pretty speech, you chose a provider whose Terms of Service states, in the preamble:
WHEREAS, the parties acknowledge that the Internet is neither owned nor controlled by any one entity; therefore, DreamHost Web Hosting can make no guarantee that any given reader shall be able to access DreamHost Web Hosting’s server at any given time.
That’s the contract that you agreed to when you decided to host with DH. This is called a “clue” that perhaps some downtime might be forthcoming.
How much longer? We can not send out emails and it is affecting production.
@brasscrest: Listen smart-ass, the website that is linked to my comment is http://www.1and1.com a hosting company that offers more for less, which you (as an DH employee that should be working on the issue right now instead of commenting here) already know better than anybody else here.
In addition to that, I would suggest you visit http://www.dreamhost.com/hosting-100-percent-uptime-guarantee.html before you say another word about “User Agreement”, “Terms”, Policy, BS, etc… I am not talking about company’s legal escape route which is so called “Fine Print”. I am talking about a RED, BIG ASS, BOLD FONT THAT IS TALKING 100% UPTIME GUARANTEE.
Don’t waste your time reply to this, get the damn service running as angry customer is BAD for your business. Very Bad. You know.
Our sites are back up that use lingling, but they still seem to be a little sluggish. That could just be joomla though.
We’re also having email problems. Sends and receives take forever (or fail). When they appear to succeed, the messages are still delayed ~10 minutes.
Please fix…faster.

@mike2nd:
Please stay off the support form.
Even with this issue, my company will be upgrading to DH dedicated hosting in the future.
Great support, friendly people and the uptime is usually great.
@Michael: sorry for your company. stay out of my comment and business.
Come on Mike and Michael… my email doesn’t work so I might as well read your fight, FIGHT FIGHT!!!
@Mike2nd: your comment is on a public form. I can comment, reply or flame it as I please.
:p
LanjutGan…!
Please, please yourself in public form.
@Mike2nd – Oh, so you’re a SPAMMER. How much are you making from the referrals you’re posting to this forum?
I do not work for DH. I’m simply a (very satisfied) customer who has enough sense to realize that the “fine print” is what I agreed to, and not expect more than what I agreed to pay for.
We were dealing with very sluggish pageload times for the past few days.
Then today our site fizzled out. We were darkly amused at the “PEOPLE ARE DYING!!!” level of urgency option on the submission ticket (gotta have a sense of humor in this industry). Our site was back up temporarily before it died again, but we noticed that when it was up – we were at super lightning speed! If we get to be that fast when our site is back up again, we’re fine with having a couple hours downtime. We have Twitter/FB to update our site’s fans on our status.
Thanks for the updates and burning the midnight oil. We <3 you guys.
BEEN WAITING 5 HOURS FOR SUPPORT TO RESPOND
@brasscrest: I wish there was an ignore option in the comment section. You talk about anything and everything BUT sense. Please get a clue… or maybe a glue to enjoy your DH “satisfaction” even more!!! LOL
Why is everyone so ecstatic. My site has been down since Saturday and no one is dealing with the problem. I complain, the better part of a day goes by and I get a response saying it’s fixed. Then I check and it’s STILL down and write them again. This has been an unending cycle for 3 days now.
I love all the techs from Dreamhost writting how gresat this service on the page – They sould get off there white asses and go to work and get things working for thouse of us that are more important.
Night and day difference! Thanks!
Well, I guess I just call it a night. There is nothing we can do.
What a wasteful day of business at the office today!
I HATE YOUR DREAMHOST.
Goodnight everyone,
@Mike2nd: If your application was business critical then you would have spent the time and money to move to another host or even have a backup solution.
Again, this was the same issue the other day. Took 3 days to figure it out, was great for a day, now back to crap. Oh well.
JAJAJAJA ESTE SERVICIO DE MIERDA LO PRIMERO QUE ME OCACIONA -APARTE DE LA RABIA TAN GRANDE QUE TENGO- ES QUE ME PRODUCE MUCHA RISA. Y LO PEOR, NOSOTROS COMO SOMOS TAN GILES DE SEGUIR EN ESTA MIERDA DE SERVER. JAJAJA PORFAVOR, NO MAMEN HIJOS DE PUTA SON LO PEOR, LLEVO DÍAS CON LA MISMA CARAJADA Y NADIE SE HACE GARGO. CHUPENME LA PIJA PUTOS Y EN ENERO NO ESTARÉ EN ESTA MIERDA, ME LARGO PARA GIROS!!!!! PUTOOOOOOOOOOOOOS PUTOOOOOOOOS PUTOOOOOOOOOOOOS! ANDÁ LA PUTA QUE TE PAREÓ.
DownTime = DownMoney
The downtime is too long guys… ![]()
May i help you to fix the issue..? of course you should pay me for that… lol
sois patéticos y maleducados con vuetros comentarios aquí…
Same old dullards attempting to right the wrong here. So sad.
By the way, this is still impacting my sites.
Should be call ‘draghost’.
You guys are totally KNOWINGLY screwing me out of my referral. For anyone “in charge” over there check out case #30693566 for account stefeu. This is the 17th referral [as I am a web developer] I’ve brought to your company and NOW you’re going to tell me that “oops, our mistake…but we’ll give you a free month of hosting.”
I don’t want your pity $8.95. Obviously, you guys need it more than me. But watch to see if I stay once my renewal comes up. Watch to see if I refer anyone else to your site. Yeah, sure…my potential 10-15 customers per year isn’t much compared to the 600,000 you currently have…but remember all of the little people that helped you guys and stuck it out through all of the BS over the last few years with MANY down server issues, email missing for DAYS/WEEKS, and absolutely ZERO help with this issue.
“You might win some, but you just lost one…”

Thanks! I was thinking that there was something going on. Thanks for the post!
