Joomla One-Click Updated to 1.5.12 — Security Fixes!

The one-click installer has been updated for Joomla 1.5.12. This release contains “a number of bug fixes and three moderate-level security fixes”, so please update as soon as possible!

It looks like one of our web-server ‘exodus’ was unresponsive and had not came back up after we attempted to power-cycle it remotely. Right now an admin is en-route to the data center to check out the situation.

Update: 02:19 AM PST. it looks like the problem was with the raid controllers BBU that was preventing it from booting. It has been replaced and should be back up shortly.

Update 02:30 AM PST. Ok the server and all its services should be restored.

For those of you who are chomping at the bit to be as cutting edge as possible, WordPress 2.7.1 is now available in our advanced one-click installer. This release is full of bug fixes — so there’s no threat if you don’t upgrade your sites from 2.7 to 2.7.1 right this minute — but staying on top of new releases is always strongly suggested.

Pan fried

Looks like webserver pan has blown a gasket and needs to be moved to new hardware. I’m working on this now and it should be done in about an hour.

Eastman having issues

The web server, eastman, is having a few issues tonight. A tech is en route to the datacenter now to take a look at it. It should be back to normal shortly.

Update 1/28 10:55pm: It looked like an issue with memory, but is still having issues. Eastman will be moving to new hardware. Since it seems to be at least up and running for the moment, the hardware changeover will happen at 1am.

Update 1/29 2:15am: The server was moved to new hardware and appears to be working properly.

New Wordpress one-click security update

There’s a potentially important security issue in Wordpress versions prior to 2.6.2 that may allow malicious attackers to change (and even possibly capture!) the password for any user. Our one-click system has already been updated and we urge everyone to upgrade ASAP.

PHP4 will no longer be available for new domains starting 08/26/08

That’s right, since PHP4 has been officially discontinued, we’re taking our first steps in discontinuing our own support. If you currently have any domains using PHP4 (in either mod_php or CGI mode), they’ll continue to work for the foreseeable future. The only change occurring is that you will no longer be able to set up a new domain as PHP4 or convert an existing PHP5 domain to use PHP4. The few remaining one-click packages we had that required PHP4 are being upgraded simultaneously so that we’ll have no one-click packages that won’t work with new domains. If you’re in a position to do so, this might be a good time to start working on getting your websites working with PHP5 so that the later transition is easier. In most cases, the switch should be trivial.

FastCGI changes for some more users today (08/21/08)

We had very few directly-related issues with the previous batch so we’ll be doing another group of servers shortly. It’s the exact same change as before (changing from mod_fastcgi to mod_fcgid) and should go very smoothly. The list of affected servers is:
