All existing promo codes will keep working, but will only give $50 maximum discount now. If your promo code offered extra disk, bandwidth, domain registrations, ips, etc.. those will still work, and continue to cut into the $97 you earn for a referral (so it IS possible to earn less than $47 still, if you give out feature bonuses).

Please note that DreamHost services are intended for the purpose of hosting web sites (item #6, Material Products), and files uploaded to your accounts should be provided with the intent of distributing them to others from your hosted sites. With exception of our Files Forever service, we do not support the use of our hosting services for personal file storage or back-up purposes and the use of your hosting account for that purpose is prohibited.

For those concerned about data integrity of site content, we do maintain back-ups of all customer site and email data through our snapshot back-up system. As an added precaution, we also recommend maintaining localized back-ups of any especially important files on your own computer.

Lately we’ve been noticing an increase in the number of people utilizing DreamHost Rewards - this is good! We’re happy that you guys are spreading the word.

However, we’ve also noticed a marked increase in people using the ‘DreamHost’ trademark in their domain names in an apparent effort to add some degree of official-ness to their referral, improve search engine rankings, etc. Whether the intent is malicious or not, this sort of thing constitutes infringement of our ‘DreamHost’ trademark and we can’t allow that to continue.

Because of that, we’ve added the following verbiage to our DreamHost Rewards terms:

Gaining referrals through misrepresentation, improper use of DreamHost intellectual property (ie. DreamHost trademarks and copyrighted material) or impersonation of DreamHost personnel is strictly prohibited and can result in loss of accrued Rewards and/or removal from the program.

In 30 days, we will prevent Rewards from accruing for any domain that contains our registered trademark (including obvious misspellings, etc). Such Rewards links will simply cease to work. We will also begin contacting the owners of those domains in order to arrange a resolution.

If you have a domain that you believe may infringe upon DreamHost trademark, please contact us directly via Tech Support as soon as possible. For those domains registered prior to today we will happily provide a 1 year domain registration once the domain is under our control so that their owners can register a different domain in its place.

Update: Just for clarification, these changes won’t impact those using dreamhosters.com sub-domains or old-school dreamhost.com sub-domains!

(We ended up getting $904.21 from 36 contributors for the WWF and $383.32 from 17 contributors for C3.) Whoa.

The reasons for this were many-fold, but mostly we felt that the open source package Zen Cart was a better alternative. It’s actually based on osCommerce, but seems to have a much more active development community. So yep, that’s it.. you can now install Zen Cart where osCommerce used to be at our one-click installs area!

We felt it was important to make this clear, especially in light of our new Domain WHOIS Privacy feature. Although your contact information will not be made public to the world via WHOIS when you use it, if a law enforcement agency requires us to provide them with your contact info, we will of course have to comply!
