Simplified Announcement Categories

Posted 1 year, 11 months ago (October 10th, 2006 at 2:29 pm PST)

We’ve changed our categories for announcements here a little bit to hopefully clarify some of the information being announced. The new categories are mostly severity based and reflect how large of an impact on our services a particular announcement has. This is still a work in progress so feel free to comment on [...]

Posted 1 year, 11 months ago (October 7th, 2006 at 8:23 am PST)

The database server ‘odie’, is having hardware issues which have impacted its stability. Those of you who have recently signed up, and are having recurring database troubles, this is more than likely the cause. We’re in the process of migrating everyone’s data to a different server, and will update this post once it [...]

The MySQL server Elmyra has been unresponsive to our attempts at resuscitation . This only affects databases on this 1 specific server. The administrative team is diligently working to get it back up with as little continued downtime as is humanly possible. Updates to follow as efforts progress.

Filer and power strip maintenance tonight (Completed!)

Posted 2 years, 1 month ago (August 2nd, 2006 at 4:17 pm PST)

Tonight we will be performing emergency maintenance on a filer which has started having its watchdog card reboot it every 5 hours or so, and a power strip which can no longer remotely manage.
The filer swap should only take about 15 minutes. There will be very little discernable problems unless your data is actually [...]

grizabella hardware replacement (done!)

Posted 2 years, 1 month ago (August 2nd, 2006 at 1:44 am PST)

The shared mysql server grizabella lost its backup drive during the power outage it seems. I am going to take it offline in about 15-30 minutes for about 15 minutes to swap out the disk.

Sekhmet databases back online

Posted 2 years, 1 month ago (July 19th, 2006 at 11:53 pm PST)

All the databases from sekhmet are back online. The process took longer than expected, and we ended up having to just move all of the data to a new server. Everything looks to be online with it though, and queries are running again in force.

Minor goof on DB server Sizzle! (Fixed!)

Posted 2 years, 2 months ago (June 13th, 2006 at 12:58 am PST)

It looks like the MySQL data directory wasn’t properly put onto the big partition on that server. I am moving it over now, however in order to get a consistent move I have to stop all MySQL services on there. It should only take a few minutes for the move.

All better!

mysql load (resolved!)

Posted 2 years, 3 months ago (June 9th, 2006 at 8:48 am PST)

We are experiencing mysql load issues. We believe that it’s being caused by a bad switch. Our Admins are in the process of replacing the switch. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

The switch has been switched! This should hopefully resolve any poor network response time to/from the affected mysql servers.

Posted 2 years, 3 months ago (May 29th, 2006 at 11:13 pm PST)

Ok, the database server “arlene” has had its data restored to the last backup, which was from the early morning hours of today (May 29), PDT (-0700). Changes made to the affected database since then were lost, unfortunately. We will be investigating the root causes of the hardware failures, and what needs to [...]
